Is there a reason Daydream Nation is as lauded as it is? I've listen to Goo, Sister, Evol, and DN several times over and I like the other three albums a lot better. It's pretty good, and teen age riot has been one of my fave songs since a kid (it was in rock band 2), but it's definitely the worst of what I've heard by them.

It's the most accessible
Yes, even more than goo

I feel similarly. To me, this is their worst album of the 80s.

I think it's cuz it was basically a perfect marriage between their noisy early sound and a more melodic, structured approach. They had done a similar thing in Sister but it's kinda more ambitious here. It's not pop rock but it's also not grimy dissonant no wave. At the end of the day it has a lot with the historical importance, but i do personally prefer Sister nowadays

Ok that makes sense. I didn't think about it like that. I imagine it being a double album also had some significance at the time? Sort of makes it a more 'grand' statement one might think

Yeah i'd say so. Similar thing with Husker Du, The Clash and Minutemen. A band that started out their sound with a more single minded approach, diversifying stylistically and making a double album seems to attract a ton of critical acclaim

Yes dude, I have a similar opinion on the minutemen who I love. I just don't get Double Nickles' hype. I prefer the earlier releases

It's when their songwriting caught up with their raw talent. That said, I like Confusion is Sex just as much as Daydream Nation for entirely different reasons, and would recommend going even further back if you really liked Evol. Also, Daydream's length can sort of work against it on initial listen, it gets better with familiarity.

It's very high quality for 80s alternative. The Sprawl and Teenage riot are their greatest songs

Yeah I plan on listening to bad moon and confusion next. My buddy really likes bad moon so I'm excited to check it out.

Washing Machine should not be overlooked.

ddn has actual songs on it instead of noise experiments BUT doesn't eschew the walls of noise when they are relevant
it's the perfect midpoint in their evolution from guitar nerds torturing their instruments to punk rock royalty

no.

>>130927102
the fuck dude do you just not like good music?

>>130927897
It's when their songwriting caught up with their raw talent
decent take

>>130930591
sure why not

OP, people have differing tastes, some people follow the trends and others dont

just because you dont like it doesnt make you any more right than someone else who says they do, its the nature of art and its perceptibility

What part of the OP text makes you think he views his own taste as superior?
