What does /trad/ think of Burn? Personally I think the title track, Sail Away and Mistreated are all some of Purple's best songs, but I don't really have much of an opinion on the rest of the album. Good heavy rock, but nothing outstanding.

It builds and progresses sort of like the one in Highway Star, but I think Burn’s is better because of the way Jon’s playing interweaves with the guitars. And this is more of an album-wide thing, but Coverdale and Hughes bounce off each other very well. I’m normally not a fan of Hughes on his own (I think his vocals are a bit ‘weak’, especially on his own), but Coverdale balances him out pretty damn well. As for Sail Away, I just really like the whole package. Great melody, catchy chorus, love the lyrics, and Coverdale’s performance resonates with me in a way that few songs do. And Mistreated is just a really solid, slow and laid-back bluesy tune. I think it’s the weakest of those three but still very, very good.

Apprently Norum left the band after The Final Countdown because he thought the synths were drowning the rhythm guitars and because of differences with the band's manager. He agreed to finish the tour but he didn't even appear in the video clip for Rock The Night.
