The real 80s wasn't Mudhoney or Testament anything like that, it was Bryan Adams and Richard Marx.

Anyone cal learn to play difficult solos, arpeggios and all that. But to sing "Baby Baby Baby" in a convincing way you need to be born with Chad genes and thus grow up attractive and with good voice.

Im nta, i somehow doubt it's bait. I'd much rather prefer to think the poster is absolutely retarded and not interact with him

You're naive. Read again and notice how perfectly contrarian it is. It's on purpose.

kind of true. When I started playing guitar all I wanted to do was shred and play fast. Then I achieved that after the first five or so years, and realized basically a monkey could be trained to do it. Most shred guitar I thought was so badass turns out to be actually painfully boring musically. Practically just a scale and arpeggio exercises. So I spent the next 15 years learning about taste and timing instead.

But yeah a good vocalist is almost always going to mog a good guitarist in terms of attention, and a good guitarist is almost always going to get more attention than a good bassist or drummer, and so on, even though a good drum+bass combo that grooves together actually musically mogs the rest of it. It's not fair but the world isn't fair. It doesn't really matter, though. Real ones just care about the music and making the best music possible together.

Ultimately, listening to some chud wank some meedley-meedley skreedley-skreedley solos for five minutes is never going to be very desirable to most audiences. People tune that shit out after like 30 seconds max. Vocals are really what hooks most people and keeps their attention.

Wdym. Anyone CAN learn the technique given enough effort.
Not anyone can sing like a canadian teen who got viciously raped by diddy, usher and the rest

well the electric guitarist is not singing thats why. most women dont understand musical complexity but they understand lyrics. Not that it matters.

James LaBrie has the poppiest voice in "mainstream" metal and not a single woman listens to Dream Theater

everyone, their grandma, and their grandma's sick dying dog can play guitar fast nowadays
the issue is whether you can come up with fast licks worth playing. the only two guys I can think of that can do it are and Bumblefoot and to a lesser degree Stephen Taranto

Yeah, the truth is that the world is full of great musicians. That in itself won't get you anywhere in music. You have to also work well with other people, have strong work ethic, cultivate your creative ideas, and so on. And even then, that'll just make you a studio musician, unless you have strong stage presence, natural charisma, a captivating look, the ability/stamina to perform on stage five or six nights a week while traveling for months on end without going insane or partying too hard and being unable to perform (or dying).

It's a rough field. I'm 36 now and considered one of the top guitar players in my niche genre, and I'm still a nobody, I never got rich or famous (though I didn't particularly want to), I play four nights a week and teach lessons and do studio recording sessions, and I can pay all my bills with music. And for most of us, that's really the best we can hope to do in the music industry.

I've met a lot of big name people and honestly I don't envy them. The deal with the devil is not to be trifled with. There's a ceiling to how high you can go unless you basically sign your life away. The people who do best at that are the people who don't want to/can't do anything for themselves anyway. They are run by handlers 24/7. It's honestly kind of sad/embarrassing, and I could never give up my freedom like that.
So I'm content to be a nobody.
But hey all you kids out there, the only important thing in music is that you have fun making music. Go have fun with your friends and make good sounds together.

Women don't find guitar playing attractive in 2026. You'd have better luck trying to emulate a K-Pop guy.
>>
>>130982201
Can I hear your music

That's not really a thing anymore, the only musicians that are pressured to tour at all already have mainstream success (as in the tippy top 0.01% like Drake and Sabrina Carpenter). Plenty of teenagers who make music on their laptops and have zero experience with crowds beyond their kindergarten talent show have gotten massive on TikTok/Instagram
>>
>>130982399
Yeah I'm talking industry, not social media. You can get your foot in the door with a social media following, though. In my opinion you still need charisma and presentation to make it anywhere in social media either. I don't really know that we're entering a new golden age of independent artists, really. That was promised to us for a long time but industry shilling is as bad as ever from my point of view.

>>130982388
I don't really want to dox myself/my bands. Maybe I'll vocaroo something later. But the point is that I'm still just a moron posting on 4chan like everyone else, so what does it matter
>>
>>130982399
Also, in my genre, touring is what we all do. Touring is vital to the genre. I don't play in the "Drake and Sabrina Carpenter" field in the first place, but all of us who are making our money in our niche genre are performing actively/regularly and touring as much as possible usually.
>>
>>130981591
Fame is 90% charisma and appearance, that is true of all celebrity.

>But the point is that I'm still just a moron posting on 4chan like everyone else, so what does it matter
Yeah but I don't care about inside-4chan/outside-of-4chan shit if that makes sense
please vocaroo some shit later cause i'm curious now
i don't even care if you're actually a top 10 guitarist in your genre or whatever i just want to hear what you got
>>
>>130981840
Women can listen to a pop song, form an entire identity around it, but not understand why or ever be interested in knowing why they like what they like. Men will go on decades long journeys of self-inquiry to understand why they are autistically attracted to a certain bass tone on an album only 1,000 people have listened to. Honestly I don't know which is gayer.

I understand that, but the entire planet is on social media. Industry musicians and their marketing teams rely on social media to remain relevant too.
>I don't really know that we're entering a new golden age of independent artists, really.
Everything about everything is faker and gayer than it's ever been, but it's also the first time in history that any musician can amass a following even if he's never been part of a scene/genre in real life and has no connections
>>
>>130982615
>but it's also the first time in history that any musician can amass a following even if he's never been part of a scene/genre in real life and has no connections
To be fair I think this is detrimental
It'd be much better if you still had to actually put yourself out there instead of highly rehearsed and mediated world of social media
>>
>>130981606
To add on (before this turns into an incel waahfest), the 90s were not Nirvana and smashing pumpkins, they were spice girls and limp bizkit.

>>
>>130982748
I was moreso thinking of artists who grew up without a local scene at all. Even if there was one, if you were playing music your best bet was to withstand having rocks and glass bottles thrown at you and pray that 1% of the audience would enjoy it and come to your next show, and if you accumulated a large enough audience via fishing for that 1% at every show almost every day for anywhere between 3 and 10 years, it might finally be worth it to invest in recording an album to attain wider recognition. Zoomers have no idea how lucky they are.
