Anyone else love his avant-garde, ethno-jazz and fusion stuff, but don't really care about Naked City or Painkiller?
>>130983732Not me, i love almost everything he's done.
>>130983732i like the self titled naked city stuff because it's so goofy, but the rest veers into tryhard territory for me, even if it would probably be very fun to witness live. electric masada deserves its popularity, it really might as well be his best effort. his tzadik label is also worth digging into for finding other cool artists. i liked cyro baptista's stuff a lot.
He might be my favourite jew.
>>130985025Yeah it's toss up between Zorn and Dylan as far as top tier jews go for me. They don't make em like they used to.
>>130983732for me it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6p6FacXGvk&list=PLJp7-6ShVcgPI1zyIrz3mhc7w9PlJhz7w&index=5
>>130983732I listened to his Mount Analogue album and loved it, plus he signed guys like Kayo Dot and Tatsuya Yoshida so he can't be too bad, his label is full of interesting music. Although I do find his occult leanings off-putting
>>130983732I saw him play and been to his club when it was open but Torture Garden is the only album I have collected.. I would usually rather listen to some good sounding shit than avant-tarde
>>130983732I like SOME of his stuff. He's made thousands of albums and projects and sadly his auto mode type of work is atonal avant-garde shit that all ends up sounding the same. He did a residence at a jazz festival here a couple of years ago, brought a bunch of musicians and performed live with 8-10 of his bands. Some sounded nice, some were interesting, and about half of them were legit boring and made me feel like their entire gimmick was simply about having the balls to stand in front of an audience and performing the noisiest weirdest thing possible. That kind of stuff gets boring very fast.
>>130983732I like Jim o rourke better tdbehsu
