Did most millennial and zoomer rock fans have more reverence for 60's bands than those from their own era?

Or was that just a Gen X thing?

>Did most millennial and zoomer rock fans have more reverence for 60's bands than those from their own era?
If you were 15 in 2003 the new slop the industry was serving up to you was slop, we all knew it back then
>>
>>130990180
I'm a late millennial and always hated "rock" from the 1950s to the 1980s. I only listened to 1990s, 2000s, and then 2010s rock music because anything before that sounded dated.
>>
>>130990534
I will punch that Fall Out Boy guy in the mouth.

>I'm a late millennial.
most likely a zillennial larping as a 94-95'er not a real one, lmao. the whole nirvana/soundgarden/pearl jam/nu-metal worship thing was your thing.
>>130990180
on the contrary to what the poster above said, generally speaking people enjoyed listening to all sorts of music from the 60s to 80s: 70s and 80s were the peak years for music, hard rock and heavy metal defining albums were released then, even punk rock from back then was considered gold before the whole pop-punk sellout-ism influenced the genre with fake-scene kids taking it into the "metalcore" and "hardcore" directions which were 100% not punk and not cool with the metal/rocker crowd and was seen as corporate garbage much like Nickelback.
>>
>>130990534
>If you were 15 in 2003 the new slop the industry was serving up to you was slop, we all knew it back then

I'd always thought of how something like Are You Experienced could take you to a place that Fall Out Boy or those other slop bands couldn't.
>>

>>130990632
give an exact date range of late millennial and early zoomer immediately
>>
>>130990673
late millennial: 90s to 95 (in some countries this is marked by Y in their ID, X-Y-Z, zillenial is around 96-98, 99-05 is early zoomer, generation is a 15 year period.)
>>
>>130990534
nu metal is one of those things that would have impressed a 14 yo but then as you got older it didn't
>>
>>130990534
especially because of just how boring it was
>>
>>130990783
zillennial is a fake category
>>
>>130990798
either way most people who were into rock and metal music could enjoy rap music but not mix the two, it was oil and water: don't mix or you get a chernobyl in the kitchen.
>>
>>130990798
I am still impressed by nu metal as a 30 year old just as I was as a 12 year old. You are just a bandwagoning neckbeard who's trying to fit in with the "cool" kids by pretending you're above it for praising pretentious amelodic boring garbage instead.
>>
>>130990825
cry more whoreson thanks for proving yourself to be a zillennial (gen Z: born before 00s yet not a millennial: get fucked.)
>>
>>130990836
>30 year old.
yeah, you are still a zoomer, faggot.
>>
>>130990832
retarded revisionism, nu-metal enjoyed mainstream popularity in the 2000s, because people enjoyed the combination of rap rhythm and rock instrumentals.
>>
>>130990847
>mainstream. APPEAL TO AUTHROTIY AND MAINSTREAM STATEMENTS REEE I AM SO APPROVED! WAAGHH!
metal and rock aren't about mainstream approval niggerfaggot, its all about being anti-establishment and people like you who bring in popularity contests like a retarded jeet. (having multiple jeets doesn't mean your people are great: just bunch of flies attracted to shit.)

>>
>>130990798
did i mention the first time i ever heard Black Sabbath i was a bit filtered because i was used to the idea that metal was supposed to sound like Disturbed ie. a guy yelling over brickwalled riffs and Paranoid seemed a little too sparse

>PW research.
get out already retard: you are a piece of shit zoomer that grew up with a single parent.

they literally were about trying to install a new mainstream, which was ultimately successful

the current establishment at the time was Rap, Pop Music and Punk being "pre-approved" garbage. the rebellion was against the mainstream, over-produced garbage that had no personality to it that was mass marketed and appeal-basis rather than original music, mallcore shit is shit for a reason.
>>
>>130990867

"Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" was funny back then but it should be left in the Bush years where it belongs.
>>
>>130990896
there was nothing funny about it or cool, it was just garbage filler just like nickelback it was memed to death.
>>
>>130990893
nothing plebian about that take if you were a Millenial you were probably mostly exposed to Disturbed kind of music as a kid and would have initially gotten filtered by anything from the 70s
>>
>>130990892
at what "time", nigga?
you think I'm in your head?
>>
>>130990903
pleb, most kids as millennials (who had parents, unlike you) with record collections probably put you through some of their old shit first or when you were riding along their car to some place and the radio station defaulted to classics or some collection of a mix-tape on a burned CD blasting the classics from 80s, 70s, or even some contemporary underground shit, only Zillenials with whore moms didn't have this experience.
>>
>>130990902
>there was nothing funny about it or cool, it was just garbage filler just like nickelback it was memed to death.

nta but it was funny to an edgy 14 year old. we grew up though.
>>
>>130990922
there was more edgier things that let the bodies hit the floor and linking park at 14 one could access to if one wasn't a pleb.
>>
>>130990180
No. Most of the kids in my high school who liked rock liked the mainstream pop punk type music. You would see a few Pink Floyd shirts now and then, the most popular bands.
>>
>>130990928
most people knew Led Zep, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Iron Maiden in 00s in a regular school that wasn't filled with blacks 100%.
>>
>>130990916
oh it's one of these fakers. this is like the Millenial version of Frank Zappa claiming he had a collection of obscure 50s R&B records when he was 13 and wasn't impressed when Elvis broke because he'd already heard it all. like shit he did. he probably had a Perry Como record or something.
>>
>>130990928
Pop punk was mostly for girls anyway.
>>
>>130990944
>nooo you know more than me reeee! you must be fake!
nope, stop larping nigger.
>>
>>130990940
Everyone probably knew the more basic obvious classic rock stuff from being sampled in TV and movies, I doubt you heard Velvet Underground or stuff like that.
>>
>>130990922
>nta but it was funny to an edgy 14 year old. we grew up though.
like boomers with KISS. it was ok to middle schoolers but some things should be left in middle school where they belong.
>>
>>130990986
the question wasn't about what wasn't being talked about but what was (especially in 00s), pretentious goal-post moving faggot.
>>
>>130990798
at that age you get off on any loud aggressive shit even if the musicianship is a joke
>>
honestly tired of sports event core rock bands
youve been on this planet for 60 years and cant show me a cooler rock band than bon jovi and pink floyd? fucking mainstream pleb
>>
>>130991049
>youve been on this planet for 60 years and cant show me a cooler rock band than bon jovi and pink floyd? fucking mainstream pleb

the issue isn't those bands per se than that nothing new has come along to replace them. maybe there could be some new young band making the next sports stadium anthem so we don't have to keep spamming 40 year old ones, but it hasn't happened.
>>
>>130990896
Eminem also seriously wasn't that good when you've heard literally any other rapper.
>>
>>130991066
Eminem was the only "pre-approved" rapper in white countries because he was white, simple as. DMX was in-fact liked by white rap fans as well.
>>
Real hot topic, guy
>>
>>130990534
I didn't like nu metal or pop punk because it was boring slop, I didn't like the brickwalled production, and pop (meaning the Britney, Pink, etc kind of pop) was even worse.
>>
>>130991105
only pussy whipped betas and those chasing skirts went to pop concerts anyway.
>>
>>130991122
That may be true, but there's also no question that that stuff was virtually unlistenable compared to pop from just about any previous decade and had a disgusting aesthetic.
>>
>>130990992
Billy still vehemently shills KISS as a 59 year old man.

>That may be true, but there's also no question that that stuff was virtually unlistenable compared to pop from just about any previous decade and had a disgusting aesthetic.

my take is the 2010s were more boring and pozzed, but also not quite as disgusting aesthetically as the 2000s. 9/11 just...broke people's brains and it led to BEP and other horrors.

one thing that struck me is that music back then was rarely boring, even the bad stuff was usually interesting in some way. i can't say that of 2010s. the worst thing you can do is not only suck but be completely uninteresting on top of it.

radio especially in the late 60s was also really free form and DJs had a lot of freedom of what they could play. Cream and the Doors sitting in the top 10 next to Bobby Goldsboro was pretty remarkable.

03 "Zoomer". I prefer 60s bands to 2020s bands. There's a couple I like but the best of the 60s is better.
>>
>>130994631
He said it was because the record suits in the 60s were still old pre-rock guys like Dave Dexter and that rock got tamped down and commercialized ironically when younger A&R dudes took over.

Imagine how much bullshit would be saved if people just said

>I was a teen in the 2010s
>I went to college in the early 2000s
>I was a kid in 1990s
>I hit my 30s in the 2020s

instead of this shit. Maybe the 90s guys could finally kiss and make love after nearly a decade of brutal conflict. Maybe the late 2000s and early 2010s kids can kiss and make love.

The SoundCloud era can be rightly looked at as a multi generational movement lasting from the early 2010s until the 2020s with it's dips and peaks.

The current teens can age out of this rigid bullshit driven by older manchild influencers while us earlier 2000s uncs click up and find our own lane with a new sound in a new era.

can call it cherry picking but please cherry pick some current examples on that level.

>>130992034
There was no really bad year of the 60s, well maybe 61-62 were a little weak but still had major names like Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, and the Beach Boys in it. There were some grievances during the decade like Trini Lopez and of course the eternal Steve Lawrence, but it's impressive how overall good the quality of most stuff was.
>>
>>130996158
The 80s had less filler slop than the 70s actually. I say that because particularly after 72 there was a lot of very boring soft rock and AC mush on the charts.

I think The Doors is the only 60s rock I actually listen to today. I think the sweet spot is 1970s rock for true Millennials. Growing up I would listen to whatever my dad did which was Southern Rock (Skynyrd, Allman Bros, ZZ Top, Charlie Daniels) and he also liked Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I still listen to all that shit today and think it's great.

>>131006517
the 70s was when they'd pretty well figured out how to sell rock to average white dudes as opposed to earlier periods when rock was for teenage girls or hippies at a campus protest.
>>
>>131006574
What I mean is 50s R&R was mostly for young teens and normies listened to jazz if they were urbanites or country if more rural. some more daring types got into black music. late 60s rock was for dope-smoking people involved in the protest movement, and it was starting with Zeppelin that they figured out how to sell rock to generic under 30 white guy.
