Why does /mu/ love this album so much?
>>131005416Because you don't
You're talking to a /mu/ that doesn't exist anymore. I did a comparison in the archives a few month ago. In 2012 this album was mentioned in over a thousand posts every single day. In the entire year of 2025 it was mentioned only a few hundred times.
You had to be there.
>>131005433>>131005488>>131005500Triple dubs!
>>131005416Soft silly music is meaningful, magical.
because it is actually good.
>>131005416Maybe a decade ago you could ask that question and have the people who liked it answer it but not anymore
>>131005416My bro introduced this album to me in the early 00s. I had been introducing him to all-time great shit like Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, Warren Zevon, and the first time I heard it I knew he had finally put something comparable on the table. ITAOTS is incredible, it just is bros. Don’t overthink it or get caught up in the hype, just listen.
>>131005488/mu/ healed
/mu/ put me on to this album way back in the day, i think it used to be #1 on the all time RYM chart, and at first i didn't like it, i didn't get it. it sounded crappy, all fuzzy and blown out, and the singer has this harsh yowling voice and he can barely hit his notes sometimes. i resolved to listen to it until i understood why people loved it, so i downloaded it and put it on my ipod touch and tried listening to it several times, but i could never make it through. one summer evening, while my parents were driving me home from a county fair, i put the album on but fell asleep in the back seat, and was woken up by the final moments of the last track on the album: "when we break, we'll wait for a miracle, god is a place where some holy spectacle lies..." etc. i had an epiphany then. these few bars were the single greatest piece of music i had ever heard in my life. i loved every second of the album ever since and 15-odd years later i love it still
>>131005488all over this site there has been a concerted effort for years to herd everyone back into the most braindead mainstream consumerist bullshit. even ten years ago /ck/ was mostly people talking about food and cooking and ingredients and now it is overwhelmingly goyslop. there was an unironic sneed oil salesman shilling I think it was canola oil specifically, he even had very elaborate AI generated canola oil frog images, like how the jeets will have their AI payloads in advance of shilling some shitcoin on /biz/. we are just another demographic to fall, or be pushed, into alignment with the algorithm.
>>131006390>"Familiarity makes the heart grow fonder."What a revelation. You can psyop yourself into favoriting anything this way.
>>131006433that was the first time i'd ever heard the last song on the album though. i hadn't liked the stuff i'd heard until then. also nobody says familiarity makes the heart grow fonder
>>131005416It's a great album that became a meme
>>131005433>>131005488>>131005500Checked>>131005510Blessed thread. ITAOTS is eternal
>all over this site there has been a concerted effort for years to herd everyone back into the most braindead mainstream consumerist bullshit.
>>131006746This person doesn't exist anymore. Fedoras were an early 2010s archetype.
^ youre spiritually him
>>131006804bodied that freak
>>131006804>>131006829>>131006804don't you have some taco bell, wpop, a thinkpad, tanchjim zero ultima dps iems, finasteride, silver, monero and several threads about them to tend to?
>>131006746the primary focus of this website was to discuss underground and niche subculture media and it has since changed to a normie friendly mainstream slop website which is apparent to everyone who ever visited this site back in the day and it was clearly done by design. you are wrong if you honestly believe all the original otakus and neets that inhabit this website woke up one day and decided they were gonna be normalfaggots
>>131005552>softhttps://youtu.be/0Tx54PFOotY
>>131007102I think it just got flooded by /pol/fags in 2016 and they drowned the individual cultures of each board. No one sat down and said let's kill /mu/ culture. The board just got overrun by retards.
>>131005416Homage to Anne Frank.
>>131005416I stand by the fact that this album is only as praised as it is (was, I guess) because it's baby's first indie album.I lived through the 00s hipster shit and was a fan of a good amount of that stuff, I liked Aeroplane enough, but it was never massive for me. Back in those days when I was still on some entry level hipster music, I shared a lot of the stuff I was digging at the time with friends who weren't necessarily into indie/hipster shit. This album out of everything stuck the most with the average person. It's some solid indie/folky rock shit but it's super easy to grasp and take in for everybody, i.e. it's accessible.I'm not hating, I still like a few tracks from it, but it just seemed like everybody who wanted to expand their music taste a bit tried this album and liked it, no matter which direction they ended up going.Nowadays, the musical landscape is just so different that this album is a bit more detached from what a 20 year old would likely be listening to before it. If you were 20 in 2005 you likely already had taste for some kind of rock or alternative radio rock, aeroplane wasn't too far fetched to appreciate. Most 20 year olds now might not have ever had a rock or folk song in their life that meant anything to them
That’s still the most hipster faggot band name I’ve ever heard
>>131007301I think the band name absolutely assisted in getting these guys listened to. There's an episode of Parks and Rec where April says NMH is her favorite band, because she's supposed to be a weird character with weird/niche/obscure interests. "Neutral Milk Hotel" on paper just sounds like a weird ass band, and I think that got a lot of heads scopin it out
>>131007102you are wrong if you honestly believe all the original otakus and neets that inhabit this website woke up one day and decided they were gonna be hipster faggots
good thread R.I.P. the good ol' days fuck the new /mu/
>>131007313>that got a lot of heads scopin it out/mu/ died when people started talking like this
>>131007316The hipster crowd that assembled here in 2009 were in fact migrants themselves, it's true. /mu/ became the online home ground of hipsterdom and people from my local music scene who had never used 4chan before were regular /mu/ posters.
>>131007301Just cause something you see reminds you of gay sex doesn't that's true for everyone else.
>>131006746Nowadays you need to use an image of a chud to represent this viewpoint. Oh how times (haven't) changed
>>131007354/fa/ was also functionally a colony which died and reverted to what it otherwise would have beenonly actual nerd hobbies like /tg/ would have been comprised of genuine 4channers
>>131007335I guarantee I've been here longer than you
>>131007471*I apologize profusely and bow before you
what is offensive to me is that almost no one here even likes music. if you genuinely love only oasis and kanye and king crimson and that's all you want to talk about forever, okay, I can at least relate. but it's just shitposting and memeing and pretending you fit in and finding a way to impose the same (e-)celebrity gossip dopamine loop onto every board because that's all that is understand these days. there's open hostility towards discussing anything that can't be tied into the latest thing someone said on twitter or some other shit like that. there's some of that in this thread too.
>>131007534*understood
>>131007266Statistically it's indians
>>131007296>Most 20 year olds now might not have ever had a rock or folk song in their life that meant anything to themGood. The dark ages of music is finally ending.
>>131007534You know that this entire board and site is fake posts by paid farms, yeah? None of these conversations are real. They are paid for. You're getting mad at big money, sir. Not people.
>>131007619>big money This board is fucking dead. No one is being influenced by what's posted here. Board traffic is down 95% from 15 years ago. Threads used to slide in 10 minutes and now they stay up for days and days.
https://old.bitchute.com/video/JcMcP7F72Nko/hands lel
>>131007633Uh huh. Doesn't matter how much "traffic" there is. The board is captured regardless.
>>131007633Adding /pol/ killed 4chan, and then the /pol/sters world became a REAL thing and now we're all fucked. >>131007113love that music. makes me smile
Is it critically acclaimed because it's good and original, or because of the silly, jewish stuff?
>>131006390so was rym made up of /mu/orists back then?
>>131007534facts. ill post long paragraphs sometimes tryina discuss shit and usually get ignored but occasionally I'll get a good convo out of it. dunno why I'm still here
