>Completely different amps.

I'm aware. My thinking is foregoing the bassman and using the low channel on the VTM as a clean amp to drive pedals through, which is what I usually do anyhow- then having a high gain amp the DR for straight up gain.

Thoughts? Looking through Reverb $1500 he's asking seems like a good deal. Just a little scuff in the tolex on top.

nothing quite like spending sunday afternoon watching some balding middle aged dork posting about shopping for decorations like a woman when he can't play for shit amirite
>>
>>131035520
I mean do you play metal or blues? Those amps are in no way alike
>>
>>131035645
>vtm for cleans
If it were me, I'd boost the vtm for your high gain stuff and run the bassman for your clean tones. I'm not a mesa fan personally but the dual rec rev g is the dual rec to get if you're committed to that specific sound. That price seems reasonable for the current market and they hold their value. Depending on if you do a lot of high gain stuff, the mesa will be more fun than the bassman, but the bassman will take pedals the best out of the 3. Just my 2 cents.

this might seem like a retarded question, but why even have a tone knob?

all guitars sound best with the tone knob at max and the volume at max. i get the volume existing so you can mute your guitar, but the tone knob always seemed unnecessary to me, and don't even get me started on guitars with more than two knobs, like what the hell are they doing? it's so unnecessary...
as far as i know of course.

Does anyone run their delays and reverbs in the effects loop? Does anyone here use phaser or other modulation before your drive pedals? I'm getting a phaser and that's where it would fit best on my board, though I found out most people are using phaser after their drives

All of them because white people invented the electric guitar and everything good about it
>>
>>131042879
they tried to sue everyone that used a stratocaster style guitar.
>>
I still can't decide between classical or acoustic guitar. I don't like classical music at all, but I really enjoy medieval and renaissance music, also it hurts less than steel strings. But also, I recognize that acoustic guitar sound "better" and you can strum cool folk/rock tunes

Unfortunately im already well on the way into speaker autism. Really want to try and find a cab with some v30’s to run the DR through.

Dont wanna spend another $1500 though to get a mesa cab. Any good alternatives?

>>
>>131043420
Wait for a used 4x12 to pop up. You can get them in good shape for $800 that already has broken in v30s.
>>
>>131043238
>I still can't decide between classical or acoustic guitar
Get both ideally but get an acoustic first, If you learn on an acoustic it'll make other guitars easier and they're just more versatile assuming you don't want to exclusively play medieval/renaissance music.
No guitarist ever stopped at one guitar, electric, acoustic, classical, 12-string - they all exist for a reason and knowledge transfers over from one to another
>>
>>131043420
A used PPC212 can be found under $600. Celestion adds secret sauce to Mesa V30's so they arent a true 1:1 with the ones you'll find in Orange cabs, but there are more similarities than there are differences and they're still V30s at the end of the day. Any oversized closed back 212 will work well but I'm partial to 3/4" birch ply construction with a nice seal on the rear panel. You might have good luck finding a used 212 rectifier cab also, there is one close to me for $600 in good shape.

Do not pay for names for speaker cabs. Rookie mistake. Yes there are some brands that are better than others, and yes you want good build quality and there are brands that do that better than others, but as long as the cab isn't MDF or chipboard, you're generally fine with whatever brand. Speakers are the important thing.

Thoughts on the Rangemaster Treble Booster Pedal?
>>
>>131044968
My guitar teacher from 20 years ago built me one of these (because Iommi). They're kinda rough to use in modern times with modern amps. It really should only be used on old, dark, impossible to crank amps, unless you're Brian May.
>>
>>131045005
>It really should only be used on old, dark, impossible to crank amps, unless you're Brian May.
What did Brian May do?

Also can you give me an example of a treble boost that is more suited fpr moden amps?
>>
>>131044968
I have the naga viper and I only really use it with my neck pickups or to cut out low mids before a solo.
I have a lot of experience with a germanium fuzz and the germanium transistors in a treble boost have the same kind of warmer harmonics added to it. Like a germanium fuzz.

Awhile back I compared the OD from it with a clean boost and blues driver, and preferred the treble booster with those extra controls.
>I play low gain tube amps though
It really is more "tubey" than your typical solid state OD, if that makes more sense.
>>131045083
Naga Viper is helpful and an easy clone build if you want. It has the original circuit, along with a knob to dial back in some of the mids and an adjustment for more distortion, if needed.
>>
>>131045195
>have the same kind of warmer harmonics added to it. Like a germanium fuzz.
That exactly what i am looking for.
>>
>>131045257
I was hesistant to use that word because it could mean anything to people, but you understand.
A fuzz face and a treble booster are similar circuits. Hey man, they worked with the technology available in the 60's.
>>
>>131045257
>>131045334
Last thing, the range control (or any tone control on a treble booster) is extremely useful for single coils. I can choose to boost upper mids along with treble in my singles.
My humbuckers only need that treble boost portion since they have more midrange and compression to begin with.
>>131045083
Brian May used the normal channel on an AC30. I believe he removed the top boost channel for reliability purposes.

You see it enough on the internet to know that qc on a 3-5000 guitar shouldn't miss anything.
Instead they ship with flaws that should have never seen the light of day.
PRS on the other hands QC is probably the best in the entire guitar world.

I’m putting together a partscaster with two wide range voiced humbuckers because I like how bright they are and I need to pick a fretboard material for a Warmoth neck. Should I go maple, rosewood (I’d prefer a dark rosewood over light), or ebony? I’ve never played a Fender style guitar with an ebony fretboard, only set neck Gibsons. I like the idea of a maple neck with either a two tone sunburst or a white/blonde Mary Kaye, both like on a 1950s style Strat but I’m not using a Strat body shape. If ebony or Rosewood I’d like either black or vintage style aged white, or maybe like a copper color finish. I’m mostly just hung up about the fretboard.

Analog tape recording wasn't any different, they used to punch you in and splice tape all the time to get finished recordings. Digital editing just makes the editing process faster, a record recorded on analog tape is no indication of technical skill on an instrument. David Gilmour couldn't even record the dead simple solo on 'Comfortably Numb' in one take.

Many famous professional musicians used to bring in session players all the time when recording albums because their recording budgets wouldn't allow them the privilege of fucking up their own music for weeks until they finally got the magic take down on tape.
