Why is this the best grunge album?
>>131069949It's just pure soul in vocals and musicianship. I can't choose a favorite between Core & Dirt, but Core remains underappreciated in the scene.
>>131069949
>>131069978In truth, STP remains underrated in the scene because Scott Weiland has a voice very similar to Vedder's. There is a prejudice against this. Aside from the fact that they're not from Seattle...>>131070027Great album as well.
Was there some kind of plot or a coincidence that both Core and Dirt came out the same day and had a woman on the cover with some red background. And the name of the album had 4 letters on both
>>131069949lol? this is not grunge.
>>131069949Those are not the Pixies
>>131070155Grunge is a fashion style
>>131070334No. It’s a marketing label for some bands from Seattle
Dirt mogs. Then after that its pretty hard for me to pick number 2. >STP Purple>In Utero>VS>Temple of the Dog>Houdini>BadmotorfingerMight go with the last one even though generally SG is at the bottom.
>>131070342Massively dated take. Core sounds more grunge than most Seattle albums
>>131069978People have been doing STP revisionism for 15 years. It’s in no way underappreciated. If anything it’s overappreciated because it fucking sucks
>>131070379Grunge isn't a sound retard. Unless you want to retroactively remove that tag from Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Melvins, Wipers, Truly and L7
>>131070394Screaming trees is the only band in that grouping that lacks grunge musical qualities to a notable degree, that and arguably mudhoney. All the rest have an emphasis on baritone vocals, darker lyrics and delivery, frequent hoarse singing and use of screams, down tuned and heavily distorted guitars, warbly and muddy tones. Use of full chords with distortion. All qualities you will find in the majority of grunge music. Its really just a matter of which grunge is more punk oriented and which grunge is more glam metal leaning.
>>131070437nirvana is 0% Metal. you can't put it like that without including Helmet, Pumpkins and several PHC bands.
STP is arguably the most important band of the 90s. Without them you wouldn’t have Nirvana, Melvins, Pumpkins, etc.
>>131070374VS is the weakest out of the first 3 PJ albums
>>131070647>blocks your pathhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4nl-YdTHimw
>>131070661fucking retarded baiter. nobody cares about cock metal. grunge is not real and punks did not care about these bands.
>>131070678Yeah I’m sure you can speak for a continental diy genre
>>131069949It's not, and it isnt even their best, the next one is
>>131069949this album is my gold standard for a "well-produced" album without going into "overproduced" territory. everything sounds so crisp, clean, and punchy, and yet still warm and even "vintage" sounding. real instruments, real amps, real drums. mic'd up and ran through analog compressors/eq's and recorded to old school TAPE. it's perfect in every way. the drums sound HUGE. the snare sounds like it's 3 feet wide.
>>131070334lol
As a kid, I felt like STP were underrated.Seems like everybody thought they were underrated. But if everybody thinks they're underrated, they are cumulatively correctly rated.Core was a monster. Look at album charts from when it came out to several years afterward. It kept selling big, and selling steadily.STP kicked ass, and they were incredibly successful. There was just a perception that they were standing in the shadow of their contemporaries.
>>131069949Core s a masterpiece, but Superunknown takes the cake>>131070875Brendan O’Brian was the king of 90s production
>>131072580love superunknown. the singles are fantastic but it has so many good deep cuts too. Head Down is my personal favorite.
Stone Temple Pilots were always garbage they were a Pearl Jam ripoff band.
Because of these guys
>>131072621Nobody asked
>>131072656You’re a faghttps://youtu.be/YTNzJdG1aWg?si=EZWVmtseFA7uCHha
>>131070437If Screaming Trees are not Grunge, then neither are Nevermind or In Utero
>>131072741and yet I said it anyway
>>131069949For me it's Talk Show, the STP spin off band they formed when Scott fucked off to take smack and make a solo album.https://youtu.be/lVwji0wWCc8
>>131070437>screaming trees and mudhoney are outthen the thing already falls apart because everyone considers them grunge. >vocal deliveryStaley, Cobain and Cornell are barely baritone. The big four Grunge singers sound dissimilar. darker lyrics are common in alternative music.>down tuned and heavily distorted guitarstoo common in alternative music. >full chords with distortionany rock music>Its really just a matter of which grunge is more punk oriented and which grunge is more glam metal leaningsome albums are purely punk and others are purely glam/metal. if you want to force the idea of this fake genre then be ready to kick out several established Grunge bands such as Screaming Trees, Mudhoney and MLB to replace them with Type O Negative, Smashing Pumpkins, Helmet, Toadies and of course the ultimate Grunge band: Kyuss. People would not agree with that
>>131072800and nobody cared or valued it. Good job
>>131073359you obviously cared enough to devote your attention to it twice in a row, but it's fine if you don't value my opinion... it won't stop me:my second favorite is the 4th of july
>>1310734894th of July got me through lows I never thought possible
>>131069949Every album on this list is better than Core.
>>131074284Nah. Lmao. Every one of those albums is worse. Come on now
>>131072831Some great songs like vid and girl is top too
>>131074284Brad/satchel must be my fave "grunge" group
>>131074284Not only is this all worse, but these are some stupid and ugly ass album covers. Especially that Gruntruck one.
>>131074284Needs Love Battery
>>131073335Many people consider Pumpkins, and definitely Toadies grunge. Type O is more a doom thing which is certainly adjacent aswell as Kyuss. But those fit into sister genres. You say "too common in alternative" well thats because grunge is the biggest branch of alternative rock. Motherlove Bone undoubtedly has the early proto grunge sound, and all those singers certainly have frequent baritone ranges that relate them to each other. ST is grunge by the original rules and im certainly no authority to say they arent grunge but they are an exception sonically outside of again the vocal range. The distorted and muddy chords was defined on re words like Rust Never Sleeps by Young and that sound is frequent in pretty much all the grunge artists. You could also add a sort of dark psychedelia sound that is prominent in grunge often via the use of wahwah or chorus/modulation type pedals
>>131074284What is top left
>>131070668You can argue Ten is better but ill take VS over vitalogy any day. Personally I love some of the softer stuff like elderly woman, then you have blood, rats, dissident, glorified g, and yes DAUGHTER. Great list of tracks and most of them i rather hear than Tens tracklist for their rawness
>>131070661>without STP you wouldn’t have the Melvin’suh-oh zoomer’s jewbot got it’s polarities crossed…mel’s are older and thus far pre-date STP… they were influential to nirvana. and frankly way closer to heavy metal than any grunge band: https://youtu.be/ank_2cZvdYUSTP was closer to blues.
>>131069949CAAAAAAAN YOUUUUU SEEEEEEE...LIKE A CHILD...
>>131072580>Brendan O’Brian was the king of 90s productioni think you mean best of all time. i'd love to hear him produce a death metal album in the same style as STP's Core.
>>131075530here>>131075835The Thrown-Ups
>>131069949it's just bots and piece of others' riffs and songs.it's good enough but it's like eating too much candy.there would have been a nirvana, AiC, Soundgarden without grunge but there would never have been a STP without all the other bands
>>131076396You don’t know what you are talking about. You don’t have to post when you don’t know what you are talking about.
>>131076381baste chart anon
>>131075472lmao i agree the gruntruck one is ugly but they are a terrific band
>>131076381what is the one to the right of malfunkshun
>>131072831Lmao i remember that. No one cared about that album they bombed hard without Weiland
>>131069949No. STP was inspired by Jane's Addiction.
>>13107636790s were the best decade for production so Brendan O’Brian is the goat by default
>>131077040>90s were the best decade for productionyep. the perfect apex between vintage analog/tape gear, and the birth of digital/hard drives. i don't think pro tools and hard drives kicked in till about 1995 (livin la vida loca was the first song completely recorded in pro tools). 87-94 was the GOLDEN age of production. absolute perfection.
>>131070394>Grunge isn't a sound retardIt is. How many times do I have to fucking tell you? And no, I'm not going to describe it for the 4th time you dumb cunt.
>>131076865Alice in Chains' best of.
>>131070342It became more than just limited to bands from Seattle, I know I was alive at the time. Were you?
>>131077333It’s obviously not.
>>131078639It obviously is. Anyone with good enough ears and who's listened to enough music can hear it.
>>131076928Jane's Addiction leans more towards funk metal. I don't see funk metal in STP's music, just grunge.
>>131075426>>131076890Everybody Loves My Car is kino.https://youtu.be/S8E2ghKgC1E
>>131078843nah. you haven't listened to enough rock music to notice the big contradictions. your sonic definition isn't even conventional, nobody considers Kyuss and Type O Grunge.
