How important is the quality of an EQ pedal? I don't have technical knowledge, just what I've heard in passing but it seems like raising/lowering the volume at certain frequncies would have pretty simple components, so less room for sounding better or worse than anything else?

well I grew up around music, my dad was a guitarist and my grandad played sax/clarinet in jazz bands. Book 1 has a primer on the basics of it, should help you as a starting point
He does recommend you use your ears a lot to learn things, that's how he did it growing up then reading in the library to figure out the theory of what he learned later.

Just swapped out the locking nut for my floyd rose with one of the graphtech unlock nuts for easier tuning. Graphtech did a nice job with it. String action is the same after the swap .005 and intonation is perfect. Didnt glue down the nut though. No harm in just leaving it unglued until I need to swap strings right? The string tension keeps it tight enough to stay tuned right? Bought a set of hipshot locking tuners to go with it, but I'm not dying to put them in right now.

posted here a few weeks ago about wanting a fender strat with a rosewood neck and finally got it last week. Took an anons advice and got a MIM but from mid 2010s. Mine is 2016 and I restrung it and cleaned the fretboard with lemon oil. Using new strings (fender 150 now jimi hendrix something or other) which is lower gauge for the low E and A strings. It is actually the nicest guitar I've owned. I have a gold top epiphone les paul I bought a couple years back and it gets blown out of the water by this strat. I've also not actually learned guitar but played for years and this strat has motivated me to learn way more. Theory is just so dry tho and its hard to be motivated to learn it lol

I even had a black MIM with a maple neck and it's nice but this new one is just leagues better IDK what is different maybe just set up better or something because I got the black one from guitar center online and the new one from a small shop on reverb so I think the new one was somewhat properly set up before I got it. I grew up as a petal player, but have been playing almost exclusively clean to overdriven tones for years now. Mostly clean and more ECM type jazz, if you will.
An Engl 25W tube amp head has been my amp through all these years. Those are mostly known for high gain applications though.
Yesterday I went to test out some amps a friend of mine has. He's got a Fender Vibro Champ and a Princeton reverb. I thought these would give me 'the' clean sound, but I wound up disliking them. They don't sound clean at all. Of course I expected the 5 watt Champ to sound boxy and not have much headroom. However the sound on both these amps was boxy, and honky, and colored even after fiddling with the knobs for two hours. I brought my most neutral sounding guitar also. The 'high gain Engl' in comparison, can achieve pristine, acoustic sounding cleans with far more life and overtones.
Anyways, I wanted to test the Fender combos out because I want a combo that I can move around easier than my 2x12 stack. Might just get the Engl Ironball combo then.
Any other reccs for a combo under 50 watts with massive cleans?

And here's also a pick of a strat I made for myself. Did the nitro job myself. Neck was second hand, gave it a shellac finish, refret, eve'mn had to replace the skunk stripe.

both of them have quality control issues where it seems like they can't keep workers for long. like they throw new people on the assembly line and then don't qa their output very hard and/or don't want to throw out defective stuff especially if it's cosmetic. I watched pics on sweetater for a while and had a folder full of obvious defects nobody caught somehow.
meanwhile all the japanese stuff I've seen looked like it was made by robot people who had worked there since the 90s. seemed like they had higher standards and more experience. they'll probably cheap out on stuff not visible though and their aesthetic taste is questionable
lesson is try it before you buy it, and buy the one you tried not something sight unseen

They're very overrated. It also depends on what era and factory you're talking about though. In the 90's to mid 00's Japan was pushing out better shitplanks than MIA and MIM Fenders. Nowadays they're maybe slightly above MIM in craftsmanship, but they skimp out on electronics big time.

I hear what you're saying, but I've never had issues with intonation. I run 12's on all my offsets with wound 3rd and even then I can always perfectly intonate.

It's completely unneeded and you can knock your bridge either forward or back and throw off your intonation. If you lube your saddles and nut like you should the string will slide nicely when laying into the trem.

Even people who get the staytrems do mods to make them non-rocking because rocking sucks.

why not just play a hard tail at this point
you don't get the same sound when you fix the bridge in place, and you introduce friction issues. it sounds more like strat trem where the strings go out of tune with each other instead of the nice offset trem which is way more subtle and sounds like a vibrato pedal or tape wobble

the rocking bridge needs enough friction to work. otherwise the strings will just slide through and not return the bridge to its resting position perfectly. maybe if you didn't lube it you would have avoided all these issues lol

I think it's pretty important, you are running your signal potentaly through a different amplifier on every one of those bands so there's a lot of room for noise to get in if you get a bad one. I use BOSS GE7
