Picrel. From generic Motown goon to a prog-soul auteur
>>
>married to an old hag twice his age
>99% of his output from this time is forgotten and written off as dated motown slop
>divorces and rebounds with jailbait half his age
>releases a spree of the most acclaimed and influential albums in R&B history
Really makes you think

You are completely wrong. He divorced his first wife in 1977, so after What's Going On, Let's Get It On, and I Want You.
>>
>>131071645
Cope. They legally separated in 1973 which is when he also started fooling around with Janice, who was the muse for Let's Get it On and I Want You.
>>
>>131071749
Cope? You were just flat-out, factually incorrect.
>>
Fugazi
>>
>>131071817
No, I am 100% correct. The age of the muse is creative poison, and Marvin's story isn't the only one that proves this. You must be a foid.
>>
>>131071866
You literally said that he released his most acclaimed albums post-divorce. Which is wrong. Why is it so hard for you to admit this?
>>
>>131071874
You're splitting hairs. So i confused the divorce with the separation. The point still stands.
>>
>>131071905
You didn't make a typo, you were just incorrect. Why double-down? Dumb nigger.
>>
>>131071927
Lol the anger is starting to slip out. You know I'm right and you're just being pedantic. Give it up.

Dir En Grey

>start out as a j-rock band, turn into a butt-metal band that chased shitty trends like alt metal, nu-metal and metalcore
>at the height of their popularity to the point they were quite literally the biggest band in Japan the members had a falling out with their labels and shifted to prog metal, death metal, avant-garde metal
>progressively get stranger, extreme and experimental from that point forward
>not a single line-up change in almost 30 years
>>
>>131074543
Fucking based. Thanks for telling the full lore too.

He was a faggot. All the women were beards.

Retard alert
>>
>>131071439
killing joke kinda. By the mid 80s they have sold out, however by the early 90s they forever changed their sound, and never again reached their 80s popularity
>>
>>131074826
they went from 80s synthpop/new wave to industrial metal. Industrial metal was popular in the 90s though so..

radiohead (although they became more popular ironically despite the less commercial direction)
blur
>>
>>131071439
The Beatles obviously. Cool idea for a thread. An artist who started out making slop and pivoted to patrician stuff will never not be fascinating.
>>
Scott Walker
>>
Depeche Mode sort of

they started with a more twee sound inspired by 60s pop but done on a synth (the vince clark influence. thats why speak and spell has goofy shit like "hey youre such a pretty boy" or the famous just can't get enough)

Then the band shifts towards the more quasi goth industrial thing we all know. Broken Frame was the transition record in between
>>
>>131075056
Picrel is baffling to me. Sgt pepper is about the least sellout thing they could've made. For the record I think both albums are masterpieces
>>
>>131075051
Radiohead has prob the weirdest trajectory of any band. They started out as a one hit wonder with a trend-chasing alternative rock track and shitty post-grunge tier album, followed up with a fairly commercial pop rock U2 esque album that achieved respectable success, then art rock record with proggy undertones, then full-blown electronic experimentation that produced their best-selling album, and the band becomes more famous than ever after that and a household name.

Mark Hollis
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
>>
>>131075251
no shit dude lol we all know this
>>
mac demarco

he could have coasted off 2/salad days and even this old dog type tracks forever, but chose to make demos/lazy folk jams/meme covers just because he wanted to without giving a shit
>>
>>131075251
they strike me as weak - they caught shit for being careerist and tried to gain favour with the critics and alt-crowd by being a poor man's Godspeed! You Black Emperor
>>
>>131071439
Nirvana

unironically
In Utero was legit weird for a mainstream band, and they were going to shift towards some baroque acoustic rock thing with Michael Stipe or something if Kurt stayed alive
>>
>>131075319
>with Michael Stipe
oof
>>
>>131075209
I think the joke was that they're copying the album cover to trick people into buying it thinking it's the Beatles.

Blowfly. Dude went from making proper soul music to rapping about dicks pussies and farts and then sold the rights to his music for like 200 bucks or some bullshit like that

>Neil Young
why? buffalo springfield was good
>>
>>131071439
kind of an obscure example but basically the same band went from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEzTp9Q7HT8&list=RDqEzTp9Q7HT8&start_radio=1 to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duDur1fFv24&list=PLJQhzJ0-uTmaDi_J4hDaIbCRlrCHBhxOR&index=7

It’s pretty common actually
First you make the money then you go free

Björk is probably an example, going from the dance-pop/chillout of Debut to whatever this is

Still too pop for pedolbini standards
