He dangerously straddles the line between humor and hatred. While it's often clear enough he's being facetious when he critiques other guitarists, you can't help but feel some of those 'jokes' are things he's actually very bitter about. He very clearly despises when someone has a bigger audience then him, especially if they're not technically perfect, and even more so if they aren't classically trained.

He always came off to me as one of those fags on /lit/ with a PhD in philosophy. Dedicating your whole existence to imitating artists/thinkers, while simultaneously thinking you're much smarter than everyone else.

I'd like to think it's just a character, and it is to an extent, but... He is a classical guitarist and graduate student. I suppose it'd be impossible for him to not be a bit of an uptight douche.

To me he is proof that judging music from a "theory" perspective is much different than just judging it simply as a listener. Not that one is any better than the other, just in the sense that it seems each looks for different stuff in music. Sometimes he'll go on about how something isn't that interesting or that it's too simple but often times simplicity and repetition is something I find quite nice in music. Perhaps that is due to me having zero musical education but regardless I'm not going to just start pretending to enjoy stuff I don't to seem smart

pretty much my thoughts too, guy can obviously play but at some point it becomes clear that all the whining about guitarists that perform popular music and are more successful or technical than he is, even if he does it as if he's playing a "character", is actually therapeutic to the guy. no good
