my mic seems to just lower the volume on its own after i play for a few seconds its really fucking annoying and i have no idea why it does it or how to turn it off, its not mentioned anywhere that it has built-in noise cancellation. here im playing one note and the volume just suddenly drops to the point of almost cutting it out entirely:
https://voca.ro/14Ch8oOJ6AJW
its an audio technica ATR2500x-USB, does anyone know if theres a way to fix this? im probably going to replace it otherwise
>>
>>131080454

>>
>>131080454
My LLM research says
>That mic has no built‑in AGC/noise cancellation; it’s just a dumb USB audio interface + capsule. What you’re hearing is almost certainly automatic gain control (AGC) or “communications” ducking somewhere in Windows or an app.
>Fix (Windows 10/11):
>Right‑click the speaker icon in the taskbar Sounds (or Sound settings More sound settings Sound Control Panel).
>Go to the Communications tab.
>Set it to “Do nothing”.
>Click Apply OK.

The JC-120 was all you needed. Toys are fun, but you're not going to want to switch cables into a different amp when you're songwriting. A board with dirt options into a JC just gets out of your way and lets you make stuff.

I’ve noticed all the people that can actually play are primarily acoustic players. What’s up with that
>>
>>131081907
because their only outlet for their interest is playing their instrument. electric guitar players are electronics enthusiasts and care more about their gear than playing music
>>
>>131081907
electric has the temptation to suck you into a gear obsession whereas even a $100 acoustic guitar is good enough

I guess I will work on lyrics and guitars then do drums & vox tomorrow
>>
>>131082005
do you not consider a $2000 orange rockerverb head decent
>>
>>131081907
Depends what you can mean by "play". Best guitar players in the world are flamenco players, but no one here is playing much more than jingly jangly fingerstyle, "look how interesting my chords are" stuff. What's considered impressive for acoustic and electric is also a different spectrum.
>>
>>131081969
Perhaps it's because you don't have the patience to warm up your tubes?
SS amps are easy-on.
>>
>>131082013
I don't hate it anon, but do try to keep more in time
>>
>>131081907
i play both, and a bunch of other instruments too, but I think with electric players its easier to get suckedd into a rabbit hole of like thinking a new pedal or amp or pickups or whatever will unlock your creativity or something instead of just practicing. its a shame really cause all that stuff is genuinely cool but worthless if you don't have actual talent

JC120 sounds suboptimal with dirt pedals. Idc what anyone on rebbit says, a clean tube amp clears as a pedal platform.

For sparkling cleans and reverby chorusy shit yeah JC120 cant be beat.

Also changing cables isnt really that bit a trouble. I have a stereo reverb behind my cabs where one out goes to one head and the other goes to another. Just need to unplug the output on my board and run it into either the princeton or the JC. No biggie.
>>
>>131082010
personally I don’t think a guitar that sounds like plastic is fun to play
>>
>>131082057
I agree and disagree. Some stuff is not going to work on acoustic, and some stuff is not going to work on electric. You can't play death metal as effectively with acoustic instruments, and you're not going to make something like Dopesmoker or Dopethrone without gear.

there's a reason the JC is so popular with professionals. tube character can easily be recreated. consistency and reliability cannot. plugging into a clean tube amp sounds great. until you have to crank it. or until you rely on the natural tube breakup and have to turn down a bit. JC40 sounds great literally wherever you take it and wherever the knob is. if you have a sound you are particular about you can take it anywhere with no compromise

it’s all the same techniques, everything is just tremendously easier to do on electric. with the help of pedals you can play almost as sloppy as you please

Hey Janny, just because you're too stupid to understand I was pointing out that "ZED" doesn't rhyme with any of the other strong beats / accented parts of the alphabet song doesn't mean I was posting "gibberish." Also I'm one of the few who actually make meaningful contributions to these threads.

>>131082195
That's not really true. There's an art to using pedals well, and entire types of techniques which are acoustic- or electric- specific. They're just for different things. Trying to suggest one or the other is 'better' reeks of inexperience or insecurity

>>
>>131082043
Oh, you're the anon who I called out for not being able to play in time the other day righht?
Have you never recorded a demo of a song as like, part of the songwriting process? I'm just sketchinng out the structure, eventually I'll record drums and then re-record everything else to lock in with that.
when I'm songwriting there's no point rerecording things that are gonna be replaced a bunch of times to get it 'tight'.
it's just like, trying stuff out quickly, so as long as it's vaguely the kind of thing I was going for it's better to just be like, do one take, listen back, hmm maybe I should put the bridge before the verse, chop stuff up and see what works etc.
Most musicians would be familiar with that sort of process I thought. Once arrangements, tempo changes, what sort of feel works for each section etc are solidified then there becomes a point to making things lock in.
>>
>>131082424
I'm not, but yeah, fair enough
>>
>>131082347
>electric only technique
pinch harmonics, basically anything that relies on distortion, feedback, sustain, etc. Anything using a trem bar. Anythinng that requires super light strings like 4-semitone bends etc.
>acoustic only techniques
that gay acoustic drum shit that people do at open mic nights, tremolo picking (like the actual classical way, where you arpeggiate chords with a melody that moves independently, not just using a plectrum to alternate pick fast), using artificial harmonics when you run out of notes on your 19-fret classical, rasguedo..

i mean I could go on, i feel like you're a beginner or just very unimaginitive to have never come across this. Like, imagine you're meshhuggah, and you have to play an acoustic set. Is it gonna necessarily come across the same? no ofc not.

Did you play about with the truss rod at all? That was always the most intimidating part to me when I started setting up my own guitars. That, and somehow the screws for the saddles were in a place where you couldn't actually adjust them whilst the instrument had strings on.

this is 100% true and 100% worth it, but i actually lost alot of my tools recently due to a flood. insurance paid out and im slowly rebuilding my collection. i did also spend quite a bit on a new bc rich that im waiting for. i was in between this and a warlock with the same finish, but this particular guitar had a lot of detail in the wood, so i bought it. they already confirmed im getting this exact one.

>>131084495
ive had it setup before, so it was mostly pretty good, but the action was super low after i made all the changes. I just needed to adjust the screws on the floyd rose and in the cavity in the back though. really fun way to spend some time. only bummer is waiting a day for the glue to settle on the nut before playing it. i probably could now, but i just prefer to wait.

theoretically for your heavy shit, considering you have a high gain amp like ENGL or a Friedman or EVH, would you actually need more than pic related guitar? $1.5k guitar that has basically the "custom" features one would expect. pro tools is the 'industry standard' because of historical reasons. It's objectively worse especially for someone just starting

Logic is way better. Pro tools does all the same stuff as logic so its fine but the UI is like from 2006 in the worst way and it's so buggy and slow and doing most things in it is so convoluted

it's almost like they make it annoying on purpose so only the 'pros' can use it. But actually it's not even that, they just never bother to fix or update it in any meaningful way, they just barely reskin it basically

t. knows and used both extensively
