Does anybody here have any good interactions with /mu/sicians? I met Stephen Malkmus a few weeks ago during the last Pavement tour. It was pretty much just elevator talk but it was cool to meet him.

>my name's stephen too
>that's pretty rare for someone your age, stephen said, you must be named after your dad or something
>im named after my uncle, ill name my kid stephen
>it never ends, he said.

I met Spiral Stairs before the show, but it was even less interesting, also I was kind of spergy.

I saw Stephen Malkmus at a record store, meet and greet show in Portland. It was him solo, so he just had guitar stuff, and a laptop. Showtime came, and he ran out from the back, grabbed the mic and yelled "HEY HEY MUTHAFUCKAS!" Everyone just thought he was being funny and clapped.
You'd think the laptop would play backing tracks, but it was the studio album, with recorded guitar and vocals, that he sang and played over. The whole time he was doing all these cringey rockstar poses with clichéd frontman banter like "YEAH PORTLAND!"
I think he was high; by song 7 he was pretty wobbly, and sounded like shit. Then, mid track, he laid down on the ground, rolled over to a table, guitar still strapped to his body, and yelled "YO COME HERE IF YOU WANT YOUR SHIT SIGNED!"
Everyone was uncomfortable, but most went up to the table. He was a mix of cagey and avuncular. The girl before me told him how "Slanted changed her life," and he just grunted. I got my stuff signed and left.
Later, I realized I'd lost my glasses and had to go back . Luckily they were there. Malkmus was still there too, packing his gear. He saw me and lit up. "Hey I remember you!" Then he walked over and started making small talk, completely normal, asking me about my job.
"Sorry, I was in a weird mood earlier," he said, "I want you to have this," and he handed me one of his pedals. I told him that it was too much, and I don't play guitar, but he said "Don't worry, I have a shitload of these things! See?" And then he hucked one of them at the wall, hard enough to make a dent. I said thanks, and he hugged me.
At that point, some lady in a van, who I think is his wife squealed to a stop out front, rolled down the windows and screamed "STEPHEN GET IN THE FUCKING CAR!"
"Welp, that's my ride," he said "Later loser! Haha J-K!" Then he sprinted to the car, and jumped in through the window. Then he lit a joint, and did this howl like "AWOO-WOO-WOOOOOO!" as they peeled out. He left all of his shit behind

i never met malkmus but my friend did. he did some thing with the "school of rock" (music lessons for teens) program here when i was in high school and opened for them so that was kinda neat
>>
I met isaac brock, his side hoe crashed into my coworker's parked car and she called him to come bail her out of it because she didn't have insurance was on probation or some shit. I didn't recognize him and tried to help him like any customer, he just scoffed and walked off like I was retarded for not knowing who he was, later I found out that was the modest mouse guy. My impression was one of a self important faggot but also maybe he was just having a bad day all things considering

met julian from the strokes in the east village
very diminutive, i don't know if it was his demeanor, but he wasn't a star at all
>me: yoo are you julian?
>him: yeah
>me: big fan, man
>him: heh, thanks...
then i shrugged and walked away. it was a weird vibe. combination of him not wanting to be noticed and also being a liberal. i wish i hadn't met him, although i'm still a fan of the first 6 strokes albums
>>
>>131086755
> not wanting to be noticed and also being a liberal

how the fuck is he supposed to respond to that?
>>
>>131086769
it was his body language, he was vulnerable. he definitely didn't wanna talk, so it wouldn't have mattered what i said.
>>
>>131086776
i also had like 100 questions in my head, i told myself i would've asked him if i ever met him, but it just didn't seem right
>>
>>131086755
> also being a liberal.

Pete Helmkamp who proceeded to take a picture with me all excited at a Watain show. I think he was on drugs or something. very giddy and goofy. I used to have the pic on my old MySpace account but I lost it.

Several years ago, on my way to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, I was in line at some food court type place at SFO when I noticed a huge bulge on the guy behind me. When I turned around for a better look it turned out to be Huey Lewis. He must have noticed what I had been looking at, but when I smiled and said hello, without making any kind of "fan" reaction, he politely smiled back and said hi. I guess living in the San Francisco area, he must be used to guys checking him out. I'm sure he is straight, my gaydar is very good and I got no vibe from him.

I got drunk with Mariko Goto and she almost stole my smartphone

I was at a Hard Quartet gig and someone tapped me on the shoulder to get past. As I moved out of the way it was Stephen Malkmus. I was too starstruck and flummoxed to say anything.

Once I was pissing in a urinal and then John McCauley walked up and started pissing in the stall next to me before his show started. Should I have said hi?

I met Gryff Rhys in a London pub, total gentleman. I bought him a pint of Guinness and explained that it was payment in kind for pirating a SFA CD. We had a great chat and he got me one back later.

I told him that the last two SFA albums could have made one excellent album instead of two mediocre ones. Then they went on hiatus for a while, so I was gutted.

Also met Mani, in a different pub, who's a lovely chap and invited us to the studio around the corner where he was working with Richard Fearless and Paul Weller.

Jarvis Cocker lived near there and I met him in the street. Told him how some of his songs had touched my heart. He was really pleased. Another gent.

David Soul was in our work local one time, so we asked if he was drinking the wifebeater and generally abused him until he left in a huff. Wanker.

Robert Plant used to go in the same pub but apparently moved away just before I started working near there. Shame, he seems really interesting.

Thanks for reading my blog. I'll go back to tumblr now.

i went to a maritime show with my best friend in college when we were freshmen, got really drunk beforehand
it was a really small show maybe like 50 people and the stage was like a foot high so we were right next to the band. was a great show
anyway all night we kept asking davey von bohlen to play i think it was young alumni, and later on he finally played it but told us before he needed our help cause he might have forgotten some of the lyrics. well us being very drunk, we also forgot some of the lyrics while trying to sing along and he was laughing like "come on guys you're letting me down"
anyway after the show he was very nice and we got some pics with him and chatted for a bit. i saw him again live with the promise ring a few years later but that was at a much bigger venue so i didn't get to meet him again
ty for reading my blog

Years ago on their last tour I met members of NMH. Julian was nice and signed my albums, I asked where he got that blue hat and he said he found it. He told my friend to stop smoking. I met Scott too and he said he'd been a carpenter in the time off from the band.
>>
Thats a funny convo im a big malkmus and pavement fan. I talked to Doug Marstch after a show in eugene and I had the audacity to ask which of his albums was his favorite/meant the most hoping hed lost one of the old ones. He was more like
>each album has a special connection at the time and now my newer stuff is what I connect to
Pretty soulless but he said it with an extremely glazed over look on his face like he was staring into lights.

>>
>>131099202
Guessing you dont go to concerts much
>>
>>131102369
I can see involuntarily cringing when someone says that because he had advantages and more than anyone he knows how unlikely it is for music to take you anywhere
>>
>>131102528
Love* one of old ones. I think is what I meant to say
>>
>>131102582
Fuck you, rosenberg
>>
>>131086599
a lot of people had bad interaction with him
I mean his songs literally talks about how much of an asshole he is
>>
>>131103264
He does seem like he’s aware of it. Too bad about the drinking
