I attended his last solo show in 2005, just him and an acoustic guitar, in some little auditorium on the UW-Eau Claire campus in Wisconsin. It was kinda boring, everyone sat on the floor around him as he jammed out some songs. I saw him again the following year with the reunited Rentals and Ozma in Milwaukee, both bands kicked ass

Some of the music is decent on this, but overall it's not hard to see why he didn't end up lapping Weezer. He's a pretty bad lyricist. He and the others used to talk about how they were miserable in the Pinkerton era, that they had much more of a hand in Blue, but I'm not sure where Matt fits into that. It's well documented which parts Pat and Jason wrote, but nothing for Matt.>>131093942This is true, but again they're pretty bad lyricists save for the occasional charmingly twee line. Say what you will of Rivers, yeah he was a nerd, but he wasn't a one-dimensional nerd. He wrote songs that had a lot of emotions flying around. Most copycats failed to get that memo.
