Most of Lynch's film work feels like him running entirely off his own intuition with no intention at all to make things like symbolism interpretable. He's just doing what he feels like doing, and the results happen to appeal to a lot of people, partly because he got himself into a position to screen pretty weird movies on big screens. His music feels the same way, just him doing whatever the fuck his intuition tells him to and putting it out there for people to do what they want with it. It's "experimental" but doesn't align with any sort of experimental music canon, so at the very least you can say it's singular. For me anyway, there's just nothing interesting happening.
