>>131166688Excerpt from my autobiography:>It was around August 2016 that I had my first psychotic break. I was smoking a lot of weed, taking a lot of LSD, I was isolated, and my thoughts and beliefs started getting pretty out there. I stopped answering my phone and boarded up all my doors.> I thought the entire world was watching and reacting to my Snapchat stories. I thought the president and the Kardashians and NASA were watching what I was posting and forming political policies and science laws based on my Snapchat posts. I believed I had all the mysteries of the universe figured out.>I wanted to make 4chan fight ISIS in virtual reality. It was all colour based.I smashed windows. I shoplifted because I was listening to Rory Gallagher and I thought Irish people were cool. I wanted to be Irish, and I somehow convinced myself that stealing was just what Irish people do. I tried to kiss a guy on the beach because of Katy Perry’s song I Kissed a Girl. I thought Pokémon GO was some kind of augmented reality overlap with another dimension. I thought I could talk to animals. I thought we were going to land on the moon. It’s hard to explain what I believed at the time.
>>131166746>The morning after all this happened, I texted my mom about the new world order and other conspiracy theories. She was understandably concerned and had someone check on me. At some point I tried to hypnotise someone’s dog at a restaurant because I thought it was 9/11 again. An ambulance was called, and I was taken to the psych ward, where I stayed for a month.>They gave me green Kool-Aid to keep me hydrated—but don’t give someone in psychosis brightly coloured Kool-Aid. They’ll think it’s some kind of psy-op.I spent a month locked in there completely out of my mind and eventually improved enough to be discharged. The problem was that I was still delusional, and over the next two years I kept cycling between brief periods of lucidity and relapsing back into psychosis, ending up back in hospital over and over again.>The open ward was actually a lot of fun. They fed me well, let me play video games, and I met some interesting characters. After I escaped and walked home from the psych ward, they decided I was a flight risk and transferred me to the closed ward for another month. Some people there were violent and belligerent and going thru drug withdrawals and seemed to be a danger. They put me in a room with someone who shat on the floor. Many of the residents were long term cases where they’d lost their mind entirely and lived there permanently.>I was still hesitant to take my medication because it blocked LSD, and at the time not being able to take acid felt like a death sentence for my soul. The nurses would watch me “swallow” the pills. By that I mean I’d hide them in my gums, spit them out later, and bury them in the yard outside when nobody was looking. They had me on a long list of all sorts of psychiatric drugs including one that had side effects that could stop your heart. I hallucinated monkeys in my bed. I warned the doctors about the Texas flood and Mr Brownstone.
>>131166756>Since I wasn’t getting better, the doctor decided to give me ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), where they induce a seizure using electricity while you’re under anaesthetic. At the time I thought it was barbaric. I believed they were going to give me permanent brain damage. I was crying on the phone to my mum, begging her not to let them do it. She had an advance care directive or something similar that I believed meant they legally couldn’t. But they did it anyway. I had one session of ECT, and it’s completely wiped from my memory. I don’t remember receiving it at all. My mum flew down from Queensland, hired a lawyer, and challenged what had happened. There was an investigation that, as I understand it, found in our favour, and I believe the doctor later lost his medical licence.>I don’t remember exactly how long it took, but eventually I got better.I came to my senses, was discharged from hospital, and I haven’t had another psychotic episode since. They put me on a monthly Abilify injection, which I still receive today. It has kept me healthy, sane, and out of hospital.I’m grateful to have my sanity back, and I don’t ever plan on taking LSD again.

>>131173294>blah blah you’ve been told hundreds if not thousands of times that you are a lazy hack. You don’t have one single original song, the only thing that is unique about you is how offensively bad your singing is. All of your songs are lazy ripoffs of nirvana and weezer riffs. You have nothing interesting to say, the most interesting thing you could do is stop and go away so that maybe the few who remember you might think you’ve died or finally been arrested for defrauding the Australian taxpayer. Keep seething, you can’t seethe enough to even make a single song with emotion
>>131173446About my songwriting approach. My songs are about the lyrics and rhyme schemes and mathematical divisions of the beat. For example 16 bar verse with 4 lines would be 4 bars each line. It’s like think of a clock with 60 seconds. Each line of a 4 bar section would take up 15 seconds. It’s about evenly spacing riffs in blocks of time. It has to do with beats per minute. That’s like the pacing. So I’ll take rhyme schemes such as AAAA AABB ABAB n give each section an equal measure of time. It’s an outlet for my poetry n guitar playing n recording knowledge. No ones forced to tune in.
>>131173543I made an illustrationThink of time like a rulerIt’s just looping poetry over evenly spaced blocksBeats per minute is how fast the tape machine goes

>>131174902U just resort to personal insults bc u don’t understand basic math and u haven’t refuted anything I said mathematically. How is basic math “schizo shit”
>>131174922Stop trying to derail the argument into math. Obviously math is an integral part of music, you barely understand math let alone music. You have never created a riff that sounded original, you have never tried to sing in key. You’ve never tried to make anything that wasn’t just the same song over and over and over. You are unable to write listenable music, you are unable to perform music that anyone would want to listen to. You simply haven’t put in the work to be interesting. If it wasn’t for you defrauding the Aussie taxpayer, you wouldn’t put the work into promoting your unlistenable, boring slop. You are not an artist, you aren’t a real musician, you aren’t even an outsider musician. You’ve been doing this for a decade and you don’t have a single actual fan. You are a waste of time, space, and money, and your “music” is a waste of bandwidth. You couldn’t make a good song to save your pathetic life, you’re too lazy and egotistical to put the work in. >>131175012I think your comment about daw usage was kinda negative too. And then you turning that into how you're the only one here making real music is kinda lame
>>131173294>>131180404My comment said “I’m not tryna talk shit about anyone’s music or genre” and I’m not. My point was against the anon saying I don’t try or make an effort bc I do. Keep doing u. I support anyone’s right to create how they want I’m sorry if u misinterpreted. Keep creating.
>>131180404you're arguing with an autistic schizo. you're not winning, just leave the guy alone, go back to making your music
>>131181130I do wanna clarify my comment tho bc I’m not tryna put any other creators down. I didn’t say I’m the “only one” creating real music. What I meant was that I do make an effort w the music I make. Others do too n that’s cool. I am supportive of anyone creating what they want n expressing themselves. my comment was I guess about zoomers who type a prompt into ai n the lack of effort in that n contrasting that w calling my stuff low effort. I’m not personally a fan of ambient but if creating that makes ppl happy then I am supportive of ppl being creative n making art. But some bitter ppl don’t support me or talk shit n give me shit for not making an effort.
>>131181167This kinda post is the sentiment I was talking about. Zoomers who think learning an instrument is a waste of time n contrasting that w calling my shit low effort. 700+ songs didn’t fall from the sky. I wrote every lyric came up with every chord progression spent years I learning my instrument n my craft etc just for ppl to talk shit about my effort etc
>>131181389I also wanna clarify the difference between ai button pushing n using a daw. I guess I misspoke in my og comment using laptop as an instrument is obviously valid. I make some music entirely in box too w tech etc electronic music is awesome. I’m not even anti ai music although I think it’s important to seperate authorship n what u actually contributed etc. shoutout to anyone making an effort to create music n the only reason im been clarifying this shit is bc I do not want any other creators to feel put down by misinterpreting my words or if I say dumb shit to prove a point. I don’t listen to much music made by ppl in these threads and I’m not the kind person who is going to critique anyone’s mixes or stuff bc no one asked n I support peoples rights to do what they want. In my whole decade of posting here even if I’m apathetic about giving back I have never once talked shit about anyone’s music or creative output. Which is more than I can say about others towards me. I’m done arguing in circles about math. I’m done replying to pointless negativity in a circle it’s unproductive. I’m not done creating or sharing art or supporting other artists who do the same. Peace.

>>131208673I guess when ppl ask why I do this the biggest theme that comes up is escapism like I’m trying to escape my boring life but when I wonder what that even means or what I’d change like it’s like the oasis lyric from don’t look back in anger “slip inside the eye of your mind and you know you might find a better place to play” like music is its own escape n being creative n making art is an escape into another creative realm or world away from the boring mundane real world or whatever. Music n guitar are the thing my brain cares about most so I wanna do what I enjoy n am passionate about w my life n that’s guitar playing songwriting production etc im already doing it regardless of external metrics or measures of successQuestion for other shills. What’s the dream what’s the goal what do u get out of posting here n what do u want
>>131209073desu i stopped posting for many years because i got serious about having a job and not being broke, but what i got out of it was: like you said, making art provides its own intrinsic value, but it's even better when you're part of a community doing it. Getting famous is an unrealistic goal, but getting to be "known in the scene" isn't. It can be incredibly fulfilling to be part of a community of people all working on the same big project (in this case creating new music)
>>131209887I agree w art being its own creatively fulfilling thing I do this for myself first as an outlet for my guitar playing n production etc and anyone who cares to tune in second. Anything more that comes from what I do is a bonus. For me it’s like a bridge between my internal world and the external world / others. It’s good to not create in a vacuum like u said it’s cool if ppl can hear ur stuff. This community is kinda niche but there’s so many artists who create music in the world n most don’t even think to or know how to market it. This community feels like it’s got like minded individuals who see potential in online spaces. I wanna start a free to use social network crossed with a reddit ads style platform n make it free to use to support all artists in finding an audience. I believe an idea like that with more awareness behind it could support so many artists not just me or whatever. Not like a music hosting site like Soundcloud like more like a boost post feature type algorithm but free n social.
