Other than that, it's all about trimming it so it sounds right, pitching it so it's in tune, making sure strong syllables fall on a beat if you're sampling a voice. When it comes to live electronic performance, you just gotta get comfortable with your instruments. If you know what every knob does, you won't be afraid to turn it. If you want stuff to sound clean and well-orchestrated, invest in a good MIDI controller. I made the mistake of just letting the internal sequencers handle everything and it gets boring and difficult to modify quickly. Next on my shopping list is a keystep pro. Anyway, behringer makes decent cheap synths. Don't let any stuck up synth purist tell you otherwise. Sink like 250 bucks in and give it a try. Another 100 or so for a plain keystep to control it. If you like it, you can end up having fun and being broke like me.
>>131203207>>131205165Realized I didn't answer your question. I keep a notebook where I plan out sets. Basically, at 130bpm you've got 8 blocks of 4 bars per minute. Decide how long you want to go for, then start planning out how to fill those blocks. It's not recorded, youre playing live, but it gives you some structure and takes away some of that flailing feeling that comes with performing. You can, and should, improvise within those blocks with modulation and stuff.
