You remind me of our guitarist. He was a friend of mine and was the one who actually knew his solfeggio and taught me how to play bass. He was so talented, but he was such a good guy that he still enjoyed playing with us even though we were real amateurs. I know he continued playing and even makes a living out of it, he gives guitar lessons, I'm glad he does because music really is his passion.
It's never too late for you though if you still play music, it's never too late.

I crowned the frets myself. It turned out pretty well. Fuck those luthiers who said they were crowned.

In some places it's not as round as it was before the leveling, but it's a day-night difference. I used the MusicNomad crowning file and had no issues. I'm not happy with the polishing though. I used the Frtlzr polishing system and it's not as great as advertised. I had trouble holding it in my hand and moving it up and down the fret. It's not as shiny as the frets were out of the factory. Perhaps I should have used courser grits, but I was afraid of removing too much. I did 1500 then 3000 then 7000.

I'm afraid of jinxing it, but... this guitar finally feels usable and like it's mine.

based sublime enjoyer
offbeats are a harder place to start. maybe nail it with chords on the downbeat first and then try change it. or just take it one line at a time and loop it until you nail it
>>131180357
very realistic if you allow room for happy little accidents. music isn't supposed to sound robotic (obviously don't just be shit though)
>>
>>131180323
oh yea another thing. like with sublime/reggae ska the chords are generally on the offbeats right?
like:
1(nothing) 2(chord) 3(nothing) 4(chord)
I find it way easier if i like imagine playing the chord in my head on beat 1 and 3.

idk if that makes sense... but otherwise i keep accidentally shifting the melody so the chords are on beat 1&3 not 2&4 (it sounded like you were doing that a few times in your voca)
>>
>>131180319
Cool. How low could your action go before and after the crowning? Mine is about 1.3-1.4 mm high E and 1.5 low E on the 24th fret with a capo on the first fret
>>
>>131180319
flitz is amazing for fret polishing
did you use a rotary? you have to use a rotary with a buff for it to get hot and work

if it didn't get a mirror polish with a rotary you probably screwed up the sandpaper step

swipe up and down the board lengthwise with 400 inbetween your fingers or rubber eraser, then 600

then go down each fret with 400 for like 10 strokes, count so they are the same amount of strokes
then do 600
800
1000
1200
1500
3000
then use flitz in a rotary
put the flitz on each fret, don't put it on the buff
buff the fret, the flitz should go from light blue to black then keep buffing, the blackened flitz will burn up/dry up and then it will be a mirror

>>
I keep catching strings with my index nail (which is extremely short) when picking with little tip. What's the trick? I tried other holds but they cramp my hand.
>>
>>131180463
I didn't adjust the action after crowning. After the level, I could go below 2mm on the low E and 1,8mm high E. Those are with the 1st fret held down (I've seen people measure without fretting the 1st fret).

What I did notice is that an annoying buzz on my 5th fret is gone. Before it was horrible. It was the reason why I let the luthier level it, hoping it would get rid of the buzz and allow actions below 2mm. Well, it didn't work that well. But now after crowning it myself, it's somehow better. I don't understand why. The highest points remained the same.

>>131180480
What's Flitz? I was using this https://www.frtlzr.com/products/frtlzr-best-fret-polishing-system.

That sounds like a lot of steps. For the next one, I'll try to incorporate more grits and do more passes, perhaps that will help. I don't own a rotary tool.

>>

>>131180463
Now when I think about it, 1,5mm seems very low. I wouldn't even need it that low. I like to dig in and I guess with something as low as that, it would inevitably buzz, even with perfect frets.
My other guitar has 1,9mm and I can reasonably dig in without much buzz coming through the amp. From now on, I just try to stay below 2mm on the low E on every electric. Anything above 2mm feels uncomfortable to play, especially above the 12th fret.

>Still can't play it right more than 50% of the time

it's so over. In fact it never even began. I'll never be able to play a song.
>>
>>131180713
That's cool that you made it work better. Sometimes that solitary fret next to the buzzy note is just slightly loose in the slot and needs a good whacking to get it seated (happened with my cheap changberg).

>>131180739
Yeah for the low E 1.5 on the last fret is low, I think other big brand manufacturers have it 1.5 on the 12th fret with relief. Mine buzzes when playing the 2 outer coils and depending on amp settings but inaudible with the neck humbucker. But it's doable and I think Shawn Lane's Vigier signature has (reportedly) very low action due to the radius, stable neck (buried to season for months and has 10% of the neck material as a graphite/carbon fiber rod for reinforcement) and of course the fretwork. Some builders even build in a slight twist or relief in their necks, that there's more relief on the bass side and straighter on the treble string side - specially classical guitars that don't have truss rods.
You can also try fiddling with the relief, I like mine almost straight due to wanking a lot. But heavy chording on the nut side and slide players may want more relief than usual to reduce buzz on that end.
>>
>>131181002
why? Is it fast? Awkward
just slow it waaay downn unntil you can do it without mistakes reliably. then verey very slowly speed it up, guitar pro has a speed trainer tool for this where it speeds up a tiny amount each loop. whenever i do that it like unlocks playing the riff at any speed
>>
>>131181002
I don't understand what the problem is. Do you mean you are fretting the wrong notes? Are you trying to play faster than your fingers can move or you just forget where the notes are?
>>
>>131181075
>guitar pro has a speed trainer tool for this where it speeds up a tiny amount each loop.
Don't do this it makes mustard gas.
>>
>>131181084
>>131181075
It's not particularly fast no. And the last 4 notes are chords but I can't transition from the single note to the chord. I've repeated the movement probably a thousand times by now but unless I actually stop and place my finger correctly the chord sounds wrong. I've tried touching the strings with the flat of my finger, with the side, nothing works, there are always muted strings.

I meann, that's not in 4 though... but anyway.
just think one finger per fret with 3 4 5 6
the chords are 4 6 and 3 5 right?
so all the 3 are first finger, all the 4 are middle finger, all the 5 ring finger, and all the 6 little finger. that way you don't even have to change position. ez

Maybe I'll try that. I've been playing 6 with my ring finger so the traveling might be an issue. I'm not sure I can hold two strings with my pinky for the chord but I'll try.
>>
>>131181419
could always just play root and fifth instead of root+fifth+octave. you don't really need the octave
>>
>>131181441
Won't that sound different though? The octave is surely there for a reason.
>>
>>131181494
i mean, if you're playing distorted, it's like barely noticable
it's not like it's a different note; it's not gonna add any frequencies that aren't already there (the partials in the harmonic series of C3 are already contained in the harmonic series of C2 etc)

Heat tranfers through the metal fret and cooks the wood. They call it 'roasted' maple, or 'torrified' spruce, when they want to make the wood hard and brittle, but what they are essentially doing is cooking the wood until it chemically changes.

repetitive strain injury. it was building up for a few months in the back of my hand then i went to a jam and was playing way too many barre chords and that was too much i think. i also have a job where i work with my hands so they were just getting overworked; my hand hurt 24 hours a day without even doing anything and it took 4 months to stop. these stretches really helped, but start slow because it takes very little force to get a good stretch. stretching is also a form of working so you do need to take breaks eventually. i was playing 3-4 hours 7 days a week.

polishing mechanically will always induce lots of heat
polishing frets with rotary tools has been done millions and millions of times
that board is old as fuck which is why it cracked

making the frets hot has nothing to do with torrification
torrification is a very specific process where the wood is kiln dried for many hours in an inert atmosphere (no oxygen)

Okay, look. I just spent 20 minutes staring at my fridge like it was going to give me answers to life’s big questions. It didn’t. But it did have leftover meatballs, a half-empty jar of pickles, and some cheese that was definitely past its prime but I ate it anyway because I refuse to be bossed around by a date stamp.

So I made a sandwich. It was chaotic. It fell apart halfway through. Pickle juice dripped on my keyboard and I just wiped it with my sleeve because who has time for napkins? Not me.

Anyway, here’s my hot take: sandwiches are just edible garbage disposals, and I respect that about them.

Now I'm sitting here wondering if penguins have knees and why my phone autocorrected "tacos" to "tacos" three times in a row like it was making a point. Oh, and I just remembered I have laundry in the washer from Tuesday.

So yeah. If I were an AI, I'd have a neat, structured response with bullet points and perfect grammar. Instead, you get this. A human who eats questionable cheese, overuses the word "so," and can't find their left earbud.

Also, I think my cat is judging me.

Prove I'm not AI?
AI wouldn’t admit they forgot to pay their electric bill until the shutoff notice arrived. AI wouldn’t have a random stain on their shirt from last week’s spaghetti. And AI definitely wouldn't write a post this long just to avoid doing actual work.

But here we are.

— A very tired, very real human who needs more coffee and less responsibility.

you cannot polish metal with out heat using compounds. It needs heat to break the binder in the compound to actually release so its abrasive and starts polishing. If you dont break the binder it's not abrasive enough and wont do anything.
You don't want heat on plastic, but the binder is still hard enough to work on plastic.

the likelihood of someone running a bot to post on a dead board for no monetary incentive is so unlikely that its borderline hilarious, you have to be batshit crazy to actually believe this.
maybe someone did it as a lark for a little bit but there is no grand conspiracy of a bot that posts, explain the dead hours, explain the vocaroos, explain the deep lore, explain the pictures, you're just screaming for attention at this point, have a (You) and just say I need attention now! and I'll give you as many (You)'s as you need to feel better okay sweetheart?
>>
if you look at the stats it's clear this general isnt legitimate posting, its way faster than everything except kpop just make it make sense...

This reads like a AI post possibly trained on reddit.
Lets break this down with facts.
>dead hours
The mods clean house and ban them once in a while, thank God.
>vocaroos
clearly these are Suno
>deep lore
not an issue for advanced AI
>pictures
again, this is clearly not a issue for even basic AI. "that" guy even slips up and posts the same image
>feel better
I wont feel better. Not until someone acknowledges our hobbies are threatened by this. Theres something inherently human about making music and these guys are fuckin it up.

no i totally understand what you're saying. what I'm saying is that by doing that, you might feel like you're helping yourself write songs more efficiently, but all you're actually doing is lazily trying to skip the actual work of developing your skills as a writer and inevitably diluting your artistic vision based on the whims of a (literally by design) sycophantic midwitted automaton

like they have actually doneany studies about this where they get two groups of people to try to create something, poetry, coding, lyrics etc whatever, one uses AI and the other doesn't. the AI group feels subjectively like they are improving their productivity, but by objective measures they do not, in any statiscally significant way, finish tasks faster or to a higher standard, and they also miss out on developing the skills that the unassisted group gains by actually learning to do stuff by themselves

I am trying to improve this place. This is OUR community, not AIs. Lets keep 4chan 4chan. I ask you to evaluate my concerns on their merit.

I'm sorry this is a hobby for me a source of entertainment not money not some grand expression, its for fun, when its not fun I stop.

bruh i get it we are all concerned about ai invading our few remaining spaces for human interaction but all you're achieving is making /gg/ a forum to talk about ai which i am SO FUCKING BORED of talking about. like ok unless you're gonna actually make a plan with me to murder the societal parasites pushing ai on everything then i dont care

he needs attention and can't play its really sad just give him some replies its the only thing he's got left.
>>
>>131186336
that's really sad anon. please learn to express yourself and not express chat gpt

like i get it you feel insecure about writing lyrics and chatgpt is less intimidating to share it and ask for help with than a real human. but it is not better at writing than you. your original raw idea is so much more meaningful as art than anything you can possibly make using it

I literally wrote a song on the fly in this thread you piece of human garbage.
>>
>>131186387
the poop song? lol
exactly i would rather listen to that than some ai slop lyrical equivalent of this
>>131186099
>>
>>131186369
how strange that you speak of someone like "he needs attention" instead of just addressing them directly. you look for other anons for acceptance because you know your argument is frail. you sit here creating a head canon on what you think someone is instead of what they are, ironically this is what an AI would do.
>>
>>131182001
versatility is pointless. im not a studio session guy. i'd rather develop a unique sound with the guitars i love, instead of covering a wide range
>>131185035
its hard to make someone feel shit to a generic backing track. i sound so much better live its ridiculous

>board so dead this thread is still up 9+ hours after hitting bump limit
