Is punk really dead?
>>
No it's just really gay and cringe and does not represent what it was originally about

idk man kinda. There's a really active punk and hardcore scene in my city so I've gone to a million DIY punk shows. There's a few bands that are creative and interesting but so much of it is just larping. Punk came into being half a century ago as a result of the time and its material conditions. For instance, leather clothes and musical instruments were much more cost effective to produce and affordable to not only buy, but to mutilate and destroy.
Imitators of that vintage sound are still able to make good and innovative stuff. After all, punk rock music's simple and aggressive sound is inherently appealing to new guitar players! It's just that today's young societal outcasts, the kind that would have been punks in the 1970's and 80's, generally prefer to make music that sounds more abrasive and brand new than the rock and roll music their parents enjoyed.
Those who choose to spend a month's rent on a musical instrument will be generally inclined towards sounding thoughtful and introspective. At the very least, they may try to write something that takes actual technique to play.

more importantly, together with post-punk it has shaped what was considered good taste for decades. (disco and prog were examples of bad taste)

Punk is when people make statements that I agree with that the mainstream does not agree with. It has a recognizable uniform that only people who fit this criteria are allowed to wear. It's a phase that you grow out of after you turn 30, get married, and start a based and trvd family. Old men who have reached this stage in their lives are the judge and jury when it comes to what is punk and what is not. It's all about deferring judgment to your elders.
>>
>>131187660
The blending of Post-Hardcorey emo metal shit into it has ruined it as far as modern "Punk" goes. I don't even understand what hardcore means now when people say it the lines so blurred. You still get the occasional good traditional sounding punk band but loads of derivative as fuck. As far as the actual scene it's just full of Troon weirdos now. If you actually knew anyone from the OG punk scene in England the average modern "punk" Would be appalled at what they actually say and believe. I had the privilege of gigging with one or two of the smaller name bands from the original Manchester scene back in the day. They would be considered "Far right" More than likely by the average modern punk.
>>
>>131202555
Yeah I bet if I met some 55 year old bloke who has spent the best part of his life grinding it out in shitty pubs but is just as affectionate towards Nigel Farage as he was filled with seething rage about Margret Thatcher when he was young and spunky I'd feel like I failed to live up to my punk elders. Real punk rock is getting old and going on chat shows to suck off politicians like Johnny Rotten. I want to be like him. I want him, you, and all those people to like me. That's the true punk spirit. Oi! Oi! Oi!
>>
Okay we have that out of the way now. Punk is conformity. You can't be this way. You gotta be that way. We decided how this was all going to go down over the course of a couple of John Peel broadcasts in 1976 and 1977, respectively. Some of that shit he played was punk. Some of it wasn't. The shit that was could be used as a blueprint for everything that comes after. If you deviate in style, fashion not musical style, you are not a real punk. Same goes for lifestyle. The Sex Pistols? Real fucking punks, the truest there ever was, genuine article. The Dicks? Wannabes, fag shit ain't punk, that ain't punk. Skrewdriver? The punkiest punks that ever punked. Don't look into the actual meaning of the word punk before the genre was invented, or how they would still use it in prison. They were just being ironic. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Not really. It was about "being yourself", ie, not caring about the status quo and saying what's on your mind. It just so happens punk rose when mid-20th century neo-conservatism was the status quo, and so that's what most OG punks rebelled against, but this has made modern posers think punk is synonymous with leftism. I would argue shit like incelcore is closer to the true spirit of old punk than what punk is today because incelcore was pretty much engineered to piss off the current status quo.

I am a rebel. I rebel against everything. Authoritarianism or the lack thereof. Social causes or the changes that come from society accepting them. For me there is no real rhyme or reason to my anger. It's just an anger at that which is. I'll join your struggle then turn on you when you win. I'll console you after your defeats then bitterly oppose you and attempt to tear you down after you win. I love a loser. I'll wear a USSR or Nazi uniform. I love a winner too as long as he is unpopular and maligned. Catch me at your local Trump rally. I'm not a punk. I'm a corny 4chan contrarian. Punk is when you vote for Kamala or Biden not Trump! That's what leftism is! I don't want to be an American idiot! Haha yeah Fat Mike really stuck it to Trump at his show last night.

Conservatism is the new punk rock because we are maligned and rejected by the mainstream, in our own eyes, and need an outlet for our persecution complex!

Punk isn't political because in 1977...

modern punk is as gay as civil war reenactment. It's corny. If you're following the rules set in the late 70's/early 80's for the genre, if that's what you sound like... it's cringe. Not rebellious, not innovative
I remember Johnny Rotten back in the 90's saying the closest thing to punk was Marilyn Manson. Not Green Day or NOFX or whatever the fuck 90's "punk" bands were out.
Because MM actually rustled people's jimmies.
Yeah, so the modern zoomer and gen alpha kid if they were really punk wouldn't be rehashing the fashion and musical choices from 40 years ago. Big shock, right?
and it's never been about being a nobody on a loser label selling 500 records either. The whole "indie" mindset is gay as hell. Put on a fucking show. It's show business, not art. Don't intellectualize rock and roll music like a fucking faggot.

I think it's wrong to dismiss them as a joke band. The to the grave feud between Joey and Johnny and the different directions things went in can be looked at as a metaphor for punk as a whole. Musical disagreements within the band, political disagreements yet Johnny still allowed Bonzo Goes to Bitburg to go through, cucking... Guys who hate each other sticking together until the bitter end to complete their musical mission. It's the most punk rock thing ever.
>>
in before "bonzo goes to bitburg" okay so sure, Ramones had a GAY song that was "political" but keep in mind that Dee Dee the primary songwriter hated commies, gay people and niggers as did Johnny

ngmi
Also, the Tom Robinson Band was directly connected to the old UK punk scene and they werw actively preaching for gay rights on stage at their shows. I couldn't tell you whether or not they wrote many political songs of note, but they used live musical performances as a platform for expressing their political opinions.

A Creed record perfectly captures the cycle of the sort of person who knows he sucks ass, wants to change, doesn't know how, then reverts ti sucking after failing to make a clean break. It's exhausting.

this album killed it
and before you autists starts screeching, no I didn't say they were the first to do what they do, but after this album came out no one cared about traditional punk or hardcore anymore and everything punk became what this album helped commercialize.

The whole of punk doesn't and didn't run through Epitaph. But I'm not going to lie that sort of thing being all that was visible when I was younger put me off of it until I reached my 20s.

I don't have the balls to go out in public looking like that. Thus I must conclude this person is more punk than you or I ever will be. We're a couple of monkeys flinging shit in a 4chan thread while whatever the gender pronouns of that person are they happen to be in a group where they're surrounded by women. That's one of life's greatest ironies isn't it? We have people in this thread arguing that "incelcore" is punk. Just the most embarrassing people to ever be born. Then they're trying to dictate what's an acceptable way to live your life. The biggest failures have the most to say about what constitutes a winner.

After all, what could be more punk than continuing to be as you want to be in a world that refuses to accept you? Than not backing down once it inevitably brings abuse your way? But from the way some of you state things having a kiwifarms account and writing snarky comments about people like this all day long is way more punk. This is why you have no friends. This is why you aren't getting laid. Your alienation is not on account of a rebellious spirit leading to the world rejecting you and your friends. It's on account of being the sort of person nobody likes. If you do find some scene to be a part of word will get around about how much of an asshole you are.

An almost related thought just crossed my mind. I don't make social scenes because I'm an autistic loner. Most other 4chan posters don't make social scenes because they are of reprehensible character and nobody would want to spend time around them. Maybe some of those guys are autistic loners like me but I think a lot of them are just larping when they say they are.

>>

Yeah man I'm with you. If the government says we shouldn't kill ourself that means the most punk thing to do is throw a big concert and go full Jonestown. The Punk (TM CIRCLE C) slogan is every action has an equal reaction, that's why I'm a reactionary.

I'm well aware. I kinda put myself on the same level as the /pol/ caricature I made up there didn't I? I'm just here getting into bitter feuds with my equals.

I listen to both. Building your whole identity around a subculture then feeling the need to attack other subcultures to defend it so you feel better about making that choice is for teenagers. It's also a sign you feel as if you need to justify every decision you ever made to strangers out of insecurity.

Meanwhile I don't give a fuck. Not because I'm based and cool. But because I know I never will be and I accept that. Once everyone on 4chan reaches this conclusion about themselves we can stop insisting the guy we're replying to is chugging cock and start talking about the things we actually do like.
>>
>>131215257
If life was a highway as Tom Cochrane put it I'd be one of those police chase drivers you see in the YouTube dashcam videos who took magic mushrooms then started swerving through lanes while going the wrong way. I'm out of my mind and screaming at anyone who will listen. I'm also probably going to jail.

punk was never a good genre. it was propped up by virgin NY critics who liked these losers because they looked like them and just like them they also couldn't sing or play instruments.

so you're a women...? Gotcha.

you still see it continue to this day with the boomer critics that are still around. they still cling to that brief punk and new wave period and never fail to denigrate metal and prog

Geez & ppl like me are gonna take that personal being popular is luck and marketing in todays era bro not much else you can do. all these famous A listers in music is like 45% luck. the rest is hard work and talent. It's not as much of a contradiction as you think it is.

1. Me and my friends versus the world, fuck you if you don't like it.
2. I'm an incel and I'm going to cry because nobody wants to have sex with me. I also have no friends because nobody thinks my self pitying attitude is cool.

These are not the same thing.

Well I'm still here in spite of it all. I finally got the approval of the one person I sought it from all along, myself. My life is a fucking disaster but it's mine. When this ship finally sinks I'll be happy to go down with it.

Instead of directing the same negativity you sent my way back at you I'll say I hope you're living the life you want. If it's better than mine I'm not going to be mad or jealous of you, I'll be happy for you. That's what I really believe in. Behind all these cynical shitposts making fun of what people are saying about others there's a sincere desire to see the common men stop fighting amongst themselves and see who benefits when they do.

itt: right wing trash trying to coopt labels and movements for themselves who get mad and mock others when called on their shit

right wing fascists will never get punk because the inherent nonconformity to punk is fundamentally incompatible with their wish and desire to create tiny goosestepping slaves, unable to think for themselves except goosestep and die for their master

Punk even back in its early days of manifestation was already showing symptoms of mainstream counter culture marketing. Hot topic didn’t exist back then, but basically things were in the early stages of what we have now. Like goth, or even to lesser extents things like indie all suffer from this. It may have started out from grass roots diy working class attitude, but once the suits saw it could be profitable it was already on its way to becoming a statistic on a whiteboard in a marketing research room. Just another cultural costume for people to virtue signal their views while huffing their own farts. Many such cases

its not like jews faking their own opposition doesn't have historical precedence seeing as they had a fake far left and a fake far right which answered to the party back in the early soviet union. or for more recent, proven and admitted to examples fed informants like joshua caleb sutter and fake fed groups like atomwaffle.
