grasping for straws. you're literally too stupid to grasp the meat of the issue, that you don't appreciate nuances in sound, you don't see how serum contributes orders of magnitude more value to the music industry, you keep falling for grifts like airwindows. you are profoundly lacking in talent yet you have a huge ego, even that random beginner anon >>131183541 could hear that vital sounds "cheap" while you don't. people like you seem to never learn, you will double down like other lolcows like AP mastering who denies that analog gear sound interesting and he thinks that even his naively programmed plugins are as good as real analog gear or more intricate emulations of such.

it is still SOUL tier for me but there are a handful of things that both keep it from competing in the big boy league and are also annoying as fuck.

What's a good genre to get into producing if you legit think you're a good singer - or want to work on becoming one. So much modern music there's so much processing and distortion to hide behind... Or the vocalist rarely leaves the octave, or even register, they start in. What if I want to be exposed and, well, vulnerable... But don't want to strip back on instruments too.

What's a good 'one stop' solution for drum sounds (Acoustic, EPROMs, 808s, etc)? Software or hardware (if hardware then option to have multiple outs.) Also are there ANY sample packs of 808s / 909s that aren't 2 billion tuned kicks? Any that are much simpler and just, say, 16 variations of kicks, snares, etc? I fucking hate having to deal with drum samples.

Bonus points if said one stop solution lets you layer samplers too.

I was planning on making an ambient track without any beats or anything but I thought maybe it would sound cool with them, what do you guys think?
https://vocaroo.com/1eXjZcw8uIH1
>>
>>131193428
The top bass you have playing during the drop is a little too quiet compared to everything else in your song. I would try boosting some of the frequencies on that bass between 500-540Hz with an EQ to get more presence. I think the bass note length is alright but a little boring, maybe you could experiment with adding some variation with the note length between bars.

eh. it's 40 seconds, anon, not much to it really. it's kind crap if I was being really honest. don't think the pad is very interesting and neither is the beat and they are too separated from eachother. low end is really lacking. lose the portishead-esque scratching at the start.
>>
>>131200397
Yeah, I get what you mean. I was mostly experimenting here because I was debating whether I should make something ambient like without any beats, but I've never really tried that so I didn't want it to sound meandering. It's nothing really fleshed out at the moment, though.

remake im working on for /dmp/ album
i was trying to understand the theory behind this.
everything before 44 seconds is what the original anon wrote. i think the main progression is Dm Am C G (not really sure about the intro). in the "verse" at 1:01 i changed it to D Am C G because i had a melody idea and it didnt sound right over the minor.
what key is this song actually in? D Dorian?

The biggest fag on the board, folks. My mastering chain is literally just ableton's stock EQ, saturation, and compression. Sounds fine to me, bruv. If you can hear every instrument in the arrangement & don't get ear fatigue, you did your job as a mastering engineer. The only way a song is going to sound lifeless is if the composer/arranger sucks balls at their job. If the songwriter & performers do a good enough job, then you end up with a piece of music that essentially tells you how it should be mixed & mastered.
>>
>>131216791
The Waldorf Protein will be the most unique sounding & most useful of them all.
>>
>>131217321
>Sounds fine to me, bruv.
you can think a sonic OC looks fine but to think that you're drawing masterpiece sonic OCs that people are going to suck your dick for, you're delusional. you fundamentally don't get the appeal of music so you double down on this songwriting and performance which even little children get taught about but it's obviously not enough to have any real chance of being successful making hit records without also being redpilled about audio engineering or at least hiring profesional audio engineers.

What's wrong with Sonic? You don't like house music or new jack swing? Loser. You're TOO SLOW.
>>
>>131218893
>>131217321
that’s not even what mastering is for retard. just because you can’t hear or see the difference between stock sounds or sonic etc doesn’t make you a great artist, it just means you lack taste.
you can fool around posting your fanart and get headpats like a child all you want. you’ll never be a genius tier producer and you’ll never make a good original piece of music because you lack the understanding of what makes art good in the first place
>>
>>131218944
Mastering is just post-production, but for audio. It's when you do a bunch of subtle things to the stereo bus (or stems, if you're autistic like that) to make multiple tracks sound "similar" enough for it not to be jarring when one song transitions to another. If the songs are well-written, well-performed, recorded without any clipping in a "good enough" or "dead enough" room (depending on the instrument) with good enough microphones and good enough mic placement, then everything else just kinda does itself. You won't have to guess when to pull a group of instruments down or when to do some special panning tricks for a certain section because the arrangement will essentially tell you what to focus on.

You are a very gay man.
>>
>>131219006
you're blatantly an amateur, and a fucking dumb and foolish one at that. you will never ever learn because you're too stupid, even when i was a little kid with no real music education, no special audio gear i was able to hear when songs sounded great. meanwhile you're a fully grown adult who's unimpressed with objectively top tier successful masterpiece songs while also deluding yourself with the IKEA effect thinking that the songs you made yourself sound good even though most people think your songs sound like shit or at least not very impressive.
>>
>>131219696

how far in the mix do you start to apply eq, bus compression, multi-band compression, sidechaining and shit? do you balance and automate first and then start processing the dynamics? ive been mixing into bus compressors and a multiband compressor for a little while now, along with individually eq'd tracks, parallel processing like saturation and time effects, modulation but its obviously a problem because if i begin to fuck with the volume on something, the compressors are all thrown off and need tweaking again.
>>
>>131221487
pretty much immediately, and i treat most of that the same way one would treat dialing in a guitar tone. honestly it strikes me as lazy or a sign that you don’t really know where you’re going if someone has to wait until the end.
the only thing really put off is surgical eq or any notches that are meant to deal with frequency masking- any sort of multiband compression or dynamic eq is stuff i identify and print over early on.

if your compressors get fucked with by tweaks that also sounds like you’re not getting your levels right right away.
i feel many people who struggle with that don’t get that it’s acceptable or even preferable to add their processing in increments- the proverbial “right” order (eg eq before compression) obviously isn’t *wrong* but like. youre allowed to eq again after lol. in fact that circumvents a lot of “oh no now i have to reset my threshold.”
also if youre not re-leveling per stage you’re really fucking all of that up and setting yourself up for headaches
>>
>>131221597
and finally, do you mix into a limiter? or save that for later?
>>
>>131221782
technically no, i don’t touch anything with a limiter on, but i think backwards logically from it.

first of all i consider the purpose (i.e do i actually want to hear the limiting or not) and the target loudness im looking for (basically setting a ceiling compared to other elements)- from there it becomes far more apparent if the frequency balance needs adjusting because something isn’t audible without more gain, if there’s some overlap or summing causing peaks i didn’t catch at first, and so on.
