I like some stuff from the 80s, like the synthpop, post-punk and darkwave trends, but there was a certain sound a lot of 80s rock had that I really dislike, it was like this very shallow rock that was made for parties and stadiums. when it was past the 60s and 70s when the sound of rock was still emerging and was often considered transgressive, and now it was the era where rock was cool among normies and bands were trying to personify it, so you had a lot of music that was essentially pop, talking about partying and romance etc, adorned in the outward vestiges of rock like loud guitars doing very basic chugging riffs and superficial attitudes of rebellion and edginess, despite not being particularly edgy or rebelling against anything in particular. some examples are Journey, KISS, Van Halen, Poison, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi. it was comparable to how in the early-mid 10s there was that trend of fake superficial "indie rock" music, the 80s was the same thing but applied to 70s rock.

Anyways, some examples of 80s music I DO like are Avalon by Roxy Music, Hats by Blue Nile, a lot of Sonic Youth stuff, a lot of that European new age stuff (Enya, Michael Manring, etc), and Nothings Shocking by Jane’s Addiction. I guess I just really do not enjoy 80s production (especially the stadium-sized drums on all the music).
