>>131213436I fucking love this record.
You now remember Isen Torr.
>>131214405What's the best track to introduce someone to this band or this album?
Here's what we have for 1970's chart at the moment. Since there's still some slots left, I'm still going to be counting votes, so reply to this post with what you want on here.
Current tally:
>>131217020Surprised I'm the only one who nominated Led Zeppelin III. I get it's not considered one of their best, but I still think it's a really good album. Hope we can at least make a 4x4 chart.
>>131217233Yeah I was expecting more votes for III. Like I don't love that album (really, the only Zep albums I particularly like are the first two) but it's still a pretty good listen, and hell, it has fucking Immigrant Song. That's like one of the essential songs of 70s rock.
>>131217020I'll throw in a vote for Led Zeppelin III. It's my favorite record by them.

>>131213436Pretty damn heavy for 1971 but the songwriting is inconsistent. Also not a fan of the jamming segment in the title track, takes what would otherwise be a great rocker and neuters it.

I'm going to make a compilation of one power metal song from every year from 1976 to 2026, but I'm struggling to think of one from 1980. Any suggestions?

>>131213436Another good record but not up to par with the debut. For me, Legara la paz and Tumba were the only songs that met that threshold.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbbNi0wye9shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxqe5ak-gv8

>>131217013I’m not a regular here so I don’t want to weigh in on your chart process with a vote, but is there any reason Judas Priest is being excluded? Are they considered too far into extreme metal already to count for /trad/? Their ‘70s output is their best material.
>>131227203That chart's for 1970, not the decade as a whole. JP's 70s material has been and is a mainstay in these threads since day one.
>>131227237See, it would be helpful if I stopped being retarded and read that original post more clearly.
>>131225132my favorite album ever but i can't get over how awful this cover of the remaster is. i know for whatever reason the trouble with getting lightning to the nations on streaming, but good god what were they thinking. it looks like a chinese AI WoW trading card.
>>131227087Those two are already on there but I counted them regardless.
>>131213436Back up to the level of the debut and even exceeding it in some regards, particularly with the increase in heaviness and more beefy production. Another essential early 70s heavy rock album. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv67tRtzfp3Rp2_C6BhjNqFJPwswB6wN
>>131227404Yeah lmao it completely baffles me. I swapped out the cover for the original one in my files
>>131227495Funny how LZ3 went to the top after I pointed out I was the only one to nominate it.
>>131228024Yeah lol. What I'm a bit surprised by is that both Sabbath records didn't pass the 5+ threshold but In Rock and LZ3 did. I was expecting them to be at least tied with In Rock.
I opted for heavier albums in the previous thread but after seeing the list of candidates, I decided to vote for the expected hard rock classics as well

Sinner in the ’80s: genuine German quality hard rock and one impressive album after another. Sinner in the ’90s: still true to their musical heritage but with a slight dip in quality. Sinner in the 2000s: Since 2007’s "Mask of Sanity", they’ve been unable to write songs worthy of the name—and have been utterly uninteresting. When the end of their 46-year career was announced with the "German humorously" title "Boom Bang Goodbye", it felt more than justified. But imagine my surprise when "Boom Bang Goodbye" actually turned out to be a graceful farewell. The song material evokes, if not the ’80s, then at least the early ’90s, when power metal hadn’t yet crept into the lexicon. The riffs are equal parts playful and heavy, and full of influences that can be traced back to their German colleagues. The armada of singers that bassist and vocalist Mat Sinner has surrounded himself with all do their utmost to add fuel to the fireworks. The explosion—well, it’s powerful enough to outshine nearly 30 years of wandering in the wilderness.
>>131251697I've only heard a few songs by Sinner. Danger Zone is an absolute banger. Also, is that a fucking AI cover?

>>131263273I actually like that song. Pretty heavy 6/8 intro and I really like that "naaaa naa na-na-na-naaaaa..." That John Arch does. And yeah the part you mentioned is great too.
Holy Diver has easily became on of my favourite, if not the favourite, albums of all time and I only listened to it for the first time a month ago. It's incredible from start to finish, I've been listening to it almost daily and can never get tired of it. No album had such an effect on me, even some of my other favourites I don't listen as much or haven't in a while. Dio was a genius, the only vocalist whose lyrics get me hyped like that. Second time I gotta thank GTA for getting me hooked on Dio.
>>131269763There's only one song that keeps me from calling it an all-time favorite, and that's Caught in the Middle. Not a bad song, still pretty damn good - but you're pitting a merely good song against some of the best metal of all time. About the same rating I'd give a lot of classic metal records, actually.
>>131269763what are your thoughts on the Joe Barresi Remix?

>>131269822Hah surprisingly, I'd say that one's my favourite on the album. Though I wouldn't mind a longer solo but the one in it fits the song great. >>131269839Ah I've only listened to the original so I can't say. I'll give this one a listen next time though!
>>131213436Aside from a few lesser songs, this is a pretty damn solid debut. Without question, Meniketti's guitarwork is the best thing here and the reason you should listen to the album. Jon Oliva is the greatest goddamn trad metal vocalist ever. His creepy lower register, bizzare rasp and frantic screams are all so unique. No, fuck it, the Oliva brothers are the greatest musical siblings in human history. Criss was an impeccable soloist who's expressiveness can only be matched by the likes of David Gilmour, on top of remaining profoundly skilled technically. Fight me.

>>131213436Early hard rock/heavy metal blend from Germany with mixed results. I’m a big USPM fan, yet I never “understood ” pic related, which seems to be most people’s favorite. Praise generally goes towards the singer, but to me he sounds like he’s constantly out of breath and his screams sounds very strained (even if they do sometimes sound good when they’re heavily harmonized), and for me he really can’t compete with the other big vocalists of that year like Geoff Tate or Jon Oliva. What do you guys like about it? Oddly enough I do like Titan Force.
>>131305464It is an aggressive album and the vocals actually may become a bit repetitive to your ear making in turn the album sound repetitive. When I first listened to it I wasn't into it either, except for thinking how hardcore badass "Reign of the Tyrants" is as a track. The vocals are excellent, but for me it isn't the vocals that stand out but the band itself, as it should be. Today, Generally Hostile, Licensed to Kill, Harder than Steel, Reign of the Tyrants, Cardiac Arrest and Symphony of Terror are some of my most favourite USPM songs...dude, that is an album and a half right there. I get so pumped when I listen to them.
>>131305464This was an acquired taste for me. Used to be a bit lukewarm on it because of the vocals, but after a few listens I think the sort of frenzied delivery actually benefits the music. Feel like a fucking warrior whenever I listen to it lol, it's like a rallying cry.

I think the title track was my favorite thing here: great melody, and the short solo towards the end was actually pretty sick.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmVZbbVR0UQ
>>131213436Fucking awesome. I love the crunchy, dirty guitar tone - it's like the tone Cirith Ungol has on Frost and Fire and King of the Dead - may as well be ear cocaine to me. >>131213436Finally cleared out some shit from in front of my stereo so I can actually blast some of my CDs now.

I have a theory that every metal fan likes at least three Metallica albums.
>>131354319KEA and RTL are two of my favorite albums of all time, so that's those two crossed out. I like both MOP and AJFA, too, but I don't think they're anywhere near as good as those first two records.
>>131354319Next you'll tell us that they like Black Sabbath too.
>>131213436Rocks hard across its runtime and sounds just about as grimy as the cover suggests. Seconding.
>>131213436https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGZKtFDhamk
>>131354319I have a sneaking suspicion that every metal fan likes to listen to metal.
>>131356735No...
>>131356735>>131354380My point is that a lot of metal fans like shitting on Metallica and calling them overrated, but I know that deep down they like at least three albums.
Bummed to hear about Dolly Parton. I think most metalheads had some respect for her.
>>131357270Fuck, man. >I think most metalheads had some respect for her.I do. Islands in the Stream is one of my favorite songs. May she rest in peace.

>>131364680Seven dollars isn't terrible. However I already bought some music this week so I'd need to wait on this.
>>131213436Heavy metal from the late '70s with an ass-load of Rainbow and Judas Priest influences, Jack Rucker on vocals and one of the earliest examples of epic metal. Just listen to it, this album's fucking awesome.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kfe8HagwwVt_MjHM0W6fB8TUcUBXiR5Wo
>>131363167That record is more folk rock insofar as I have listened to it.
>>131213436I believe this is the first album from Spain that I've listened to. As it stands, pretty damn good, but honestly my favorite part about this album is the cover art. That shit's just beautiful, man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_sx_7qTR4E

>>131213436This was a great album, and full-blown metal like this in 1978 (seriously, this sounds like NWOBHM) is a rarity to come across. Check it out, it's a pretty cool listen!https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvAyoNx6tDfOg6a6XUpGsT7DcEGsG-f1V
>>131213436Italy's first metal album, and it isn't anything special. Pretty acceptable hard 'n' heavy in the same vein as early Accept and the JP albums from this time.

>>131386541gonna be honest, if the 1986 chart were going on right now i'd nominate that luzbel album. it's better than a lot of the albums that made it on there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSz-s2eiE7Mhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5Jf9gHiRhQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0O6Qa0f7aM>this and Pasaporte Al Infierno are the foundation of mexican trad metala good album and a great album are a pretty strong foundation desu

Any tradchads try exploring various extreme metal genres, and maybe some of it is good but most of it just doesn't click with you like your old trad favorites? Feels like I do it just to fit in sometimes.
>>131390461I listen to both trad metal and extreme metal equally, they just have different vibes and thus I listen to either of them depending on the mood.Trad metal gives a sense of grandiosity and "coolness" that fills me with energy, but extreme metal genres like death metal and grindcore (INB4 "but that's le punk adjacent!!!") are hella abrasive and give me an avenue to release my bottled up anger.
>>131390461When it comes to metal, I generally listen to extreme metal with occasionally a bit of trad metal
>>131390461I am quite fond of brutal death metal and some old school slam. Also, not a black metal guy but Bergtatt by Ulver is a masterpiece.
>>131390461i like death metal and death doom a fair amount but i don’t listen to extreme metal that often. have to be in the right mood for it.
>>131390461I enjoy plenty of extreme metal, but most of the bands and albums that I listen to are from the 80s and on the more trad side of things. Even in modern bands I prefer the ones that that take main influence from 80s tendencies. IMO metal had a more unified vision in that decade, afterwards it started to splinter off too much into different niches and the genre as a whole became very scattered.

Just read an interview with Gary Barden, probably best known for being the vocalist in MSG (and tons of other Michael Schenker related projects. One of the answers was pretty interesting:>Q: Weren’t you actually on the verge of joining TNT before Tony Harnell came along?>A: No, not exactly. My management received a cassette from them, which was good, and we started talking, but I was more keen to carry on with Statetrooper. Funnily enough, I also got an inquiry from Celtic Frost.I can't even imagine what Celtic Frost would've sounded like with Gary Barden on vocals. Might've even been a band I would enjoy listening to.>>131390461I've tried to listen to various death metal albums, but I think it's mostly shit unless it has some kind of melodic influences.

There's so much new music to listen too.
>>131400882i haven't really been listening to any new rock or metal albums. was on a roll early in the year but slipped off the train a few months ago.
reposting my picks for the best trad albums of the year
>>131401487this'll help me actually get off my ass and listen to some new shit, thanks m8
>>131213436there's a lot of cool moments throughout the record, but i don't think there's any true masterpiece song here. still a good experience, though, like more proggy mercyful fate.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nN_FmV5ImOX6vd1WqrUA4TIJzZ04w4JKE
>>131401487Nice. I'm partial to the new Sandstorm EP and the Chariots Overdrive debut.
>>131261642I like this album but I've recently been getting more adjusted to their later "total prog" era, which has more gloss than this era (i.e., better production)
>>131270254very Deep Purple-esque
>>131356987You'd be right in my case. but only the Cliff stuff.
>>131390608what about doom? that genre could fall into ether camp.
Bumphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTCD0-gfJyg
Why does so much modern trad/speed use autotune? It's always noticeable and it puts me off the band I don't hate autotune btw, it just doesn't belong in metal. I'd rather hear someone's falsetto slightly off-key, the tangible passion is what matters
>>131410362What are some examples of this?
>>131410405I also want to know.
Y&T - Forever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlLQ7buuYrsY&T - Black Tiger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB1wnFtpecU
>>131407969I like trad doom mostly, stoner doom and epic doom are fine but I just haven't dabbled much into those genres. Now, funeral doom is an entirely different beast and I find it too boring, but I get why some people like it.

>>131419486Im extremely dyslexic
>>131251697Sinner might be the most mediocre metal band ever, literallyimagine a band releasing 5/10s and 6/10s every other year for over 40 years, that's Sinner
>>131213436more mexican metal, it's pretty much a NWOBHM album from the early years of the movement. good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQwE94YCKRs
>>131241341I have to say that when you started posting multiple albums by this band it didn't occur to me that they were Y&T
>>131296616Yes for Criss, Jon's vocals were good and suited the band. Actually you know what, I agree with you.
>>131324251For real?
>>131422566Y&T doesn't exactly come to mind immediately, huh? i think it's due to the lack of an ampersand. Yesterday & Today is a fair bit more obvious what the band is.
