None of that meme-y ''nobody remembers Beach House bro'' bullshit, but acts that rarely if ever get brought up in any conversation online or IRL despite having had a decent amount of exposure during their main run. I'm talking shit that used to get a regular mention on the blogosphere and in music publications, shit that appeared on TV and in commercials, shit that doesn't have less than a 100 ratings on RYM, shit that legitimately triggers a shocked response upon seeing their name...you get the idea. The actual quality of the music notwithstanding.
I'll start:
>We Are Scientists
>Groove Armada
>The Rakes
>Cut Copy
>The Subways
>Crystal Fighters
>Com Truise
>The Tallest Man on Earth
>Braids
>oOoOO
>Balam Acab
>The Stills
>>
>>131264308
I think grovel armada are still relevant to some degree in the electronic music world. I think they played Coachella this year for instance, which no matter what you think about that festival is a decent gauge for relevance.

There's one I've been searching for forever. They are so forgotten I forgot the name.

mid '80s band
bunch of lame skits on their records, like crank calling and so on.
few live songs that were basically noise with Anal Cunt style lyrics.
Only found one of their records in some Kansas City record store.

Only thing I remember is them calling a mortician and asking if he used the hack/rip method, and one song cover of "Going to the Chapel" by the Dixie Cups, but replaced the lyrics with something about a baby being miscarried.

No one on /mu/has ever figured out who this band was.
>>
>>131264360
note - if a band has a wiki page, it is not truly forgotten.

>>131264308
There was that black guy who had one song on the radio who covered A Thousand Miles. I can't even remember his name, but I think the song was called "I Will Never Forget You". In the same vein of completely forgotten black guys that were on the radio at one point, Khalid.

Balam Acab's early singles "just stay" and "come true" were legit very very good when they came out, as well as the sun/moon thing. I still hit that shit sometimes
but yeah all good examples. I liked that Tallest man debut but his second shit was ass and ofc the one that semi blew up, but everything else on here completely forgotten about to me

That game along with Drive completely changed the landscape of internet edm with the popularization of synthwave music. The influence of its soundtrack(s) cannot be overstated. A gazillion kids started making 80s inspired synth music through it, and it further exploded with the great youtube channels that were making custom music videos to go along with it. Thinking of Neros77 and LuigiDonatello. Fun times.
And yeah the non edm tracks are fantastic too. I don't know if anybody would remember the Castanets or Coconuts as much if it weren't for it.

Beach House has way more followers on Spotify than cut copy but in the grand scheme of things are either band really that relevant? I haven’t heard either band mentioned in casual conversation…. possibly ever in my entire life? Granted I spent most of my time around normie’s who will probably bring up Taylor Swift, or Ye’s latest exploits if they’re gonna talk about musicians at all. That’s pretty much what real people in real life talk about as it relates to music. Music nerds remember beach house but they also remember cut copy.

I wanna say Die Antwoord they’re definitely getting there at peast. They posted a trailer for their documentary and it only has like 15k views. They remind me of the kid(s) that would get popular for basically being a freakshow act with the other classmates but nobody actually liked them and any controversy would take it all away
>>

The thing about Beach House is they got very lucky with the algorithm. Not so many years ago YouYube would autoplay Space Song every third song. This, and maybe one or two more songs, have probably been caught up by the algorithms and show up on normie Spotify playlists, so a lot of people now know them by name and a couple of songs too, but they are not as "massive" as those numbers would suggest. I think they still have a rather cult-following, which I am glad to say, because they're one of my favorite bands.
