There's a funny site where ornery normies listen through all the albums in "1001 albums to listen to before you die" and rate them.

Highest rated
>Fleetwood Mac: Rumors 4.45
>Beatles: Abbey Road 4.45
>Pink Floyd: DSOTM 4.43
>Nirvana: Nevermind 4.37
>Led Zeppelin IV 4.33

Worst rated
>Throbbing Gristle: DOA 1.89
"Congratulations, you experiment with what you could make music out of. And you do it in the worst way possible. Out of the first 4 tracks, literally only one of them has any melodic value."
> Einstürzende Neubauten: Kollaps 1.94
>Kid Rock: Devil Without A Cause 2.00
>The Residents: Duck Stab/Buster & Glen 2.04
>Napalm Death: Scum
"These dudes grew up without a mom."
>Liars: They Were Wrong, So We Drowned 2.13
"Pretentious, irritating, pointless noise. WTF is this shit doing on this list, and who selected it?"

WTF, was Kid Rock the most underrated avant-garde industrial music artist all along?
>>
>>131271112
>>Throbbing Gristle: DOA
>>Einstürzende Neubauten: Kollaps
>>Liars: They Were Wrong, So We Drowned
these are all pretty good albums, what the hell is wrong with normies
>>
>>131272135
kek not gonna lie i thought this entire book would be normie these are funny inclusions
>>
>>131271112
i agree with the normies. guess i'm a normie
>>

Steely Dan's Aja rated a 3.48. Many reviews find it pretentious. https://1001albumsgenerator.com/albums/5Zxv8bCtxjz11jjypNdkEa/aja
>>
>>131272135
how are any of those albums i must hear before i die? and i'm more than perfectly fine with dying before listening to the residents napalm death and kid rock. that book sucks. if anyone handed it to me i'd wipe my ass with it and hand it back to them
>>
>>131271112
>Nirvana: Nevermind 4.37
No. not even nirvana's best, that would be bleach. nevermind is a 2.5 album
>>
kill all normies
>>
I found Loveless from whatever edition this book was on in 2009. Don't remember anything else about it
>>
>>131271112
I think the average person on the street probably has a better music taste than the people who use that website
>>
The Lowest Rated Albums are a pretty great list. Not the best ever, but a pretty good one. The Highest list is the definition of cringe.

I used that site for like 2 weeks maybe?

I did discover Lambchop - Nixon from it and that album is awesome.

My friend tried to show me Lambchop before that for years but they never clicked.

You should wipe your ass before you leave the bathroom and you wouldn't have to do that

I heard the Gen X author just put in a million of his favorite British alternative rock albums from the 80s and 90s.
>>
Are they normies on that site or performative redditors? There's still a difference even though normies are gradually becoming more terminally online.
>>
>>131272198
Because youre an ignorant tard that needs to step outside their comfortzone and expand their horizons

Sounds based. That's kind of my favorite shit anyway.

Velvet Underground is too spicy for them. Not even reddit is that bad.
>>
>>131278605
Moreso the blurbs in the reviews. Personally I see a difference between killing people (Phil Spector/Jim Gordon) and saying no-no words (Kanye/Morrissey) but they seem to think both are equally as bad. I also think that stuff doesn't have much to do with the quality of the music anyways.
>>
>>131271112
Okay, while I wasn't necessarily agreeing with that top worst list I could at least get it, like yeah, Throbbing Gristle and Trout Mask replica and The Residents and shit like that is divisive and hard to process, but seeing Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom actually made me assblasted. And kinda surprised. A recommended this album to normalfags a couple of times and most of them said they enjoyed at least a couple of songs and didn't hate it or anything. But now it turns out that album is apparently normalfag repellent for some reason?
>>
>>131281837
That stood out the most to me as well. This website seems to consist of a very specific kind of person. The reviews are complaining about noodling.
>>
>>131271112
Einsturzende are absolutely GOATed but Kollaps is far from their best work. Even Stahlmusik was better than it. They become a real pleasure to listen to a couple albums after Kollaps. I routinely recommend this song as a subwoofer test

TVU&N has been steadily dropping down the RYM chart for years. Zoomie music enjoyers coming from Jane Remover or whatever get hard filtered by the more out there moments on the album like the solos on Run Run Run.

Everything they did between Zeichnungen des Patienten O. T. and Silence Is Sexy (excluding Richterskala, that one was kind of boring) is absolutely MINT. I'd definitely recommend Tabula Rasa and Haus Der Luge if you're new into them, and Halber Mensch and Zeichnungen if you want something really intense

>Merriweather Post Pavilion - 2.91
>I was going to say that this is the worst album to date, but Robert Wyatt takes that cake. This is a close second though. I'd take that screaming German band (Einsturzende Neubauten) over this horseshit any day.
>Albums like this make me think that the "before" in "1001 Albums to Listen Before You Die" in fact establishes a causal relationship, rather than a procedural one
>he choral singing constantly used on the album is a clear nod to the Beach Boys, but such an homage reveals irresolution as much as taste: are they complimenting the Beach Boys, or are they grasping for the trendiest ideas? I honestly can't tell you. Developing this Beach Boys comparison further, I don't think the melodies on this album are that memorable. Yes, I know there's also an unmelodic, glitchy rave aspect to this, but I think the desired result was to be a synthesis, not the actual unsatisfying compromise.
>>
>>131287628
I understand Spiderland not being accessible but Merriweather Post Pavilion is one of the most accessible albums on the list

>I'd take that screaming German band (Einsturzende Neubauten) over this horseshit any day.
unfathomably based
>>
>Why, I would ask Mr. Wyatt, is there all this chaos, all this disregard for conventional (at least) conceptions of what is good, true, and beautiful? Surely it’s not merely a Bolshevik revolutionary desire to destroy classic liberal notions of art. Surely it’s not merely Capitalist avarice. Surely it’s not a neo-Gnostic triumph of undefined spirit over matter. Surely it’s not a Socialist grab at the affirmative action brass ring. Critics are at a loss to explain this (I am not alone; and, in the interest of full disclosure, I, too, was a Communist. When I was 11. I grew out of it). One is left scratching one’s head. I really want to know. You got my attention, but briefly. Was that the point all along? 1/5

Seeing what gets this audience fickle really make me wonder how stuff like Pink Floyd and Abbey Road are their all time favorites. Sure those albums are accessible no doubt, but they both have a lot of the "meandering" and "Too-long" aspects that these people complain about. You'd think they'd want more

Compare the rating of Master of Puppets to Rust in Peace, or Born in the USA to Born to Run. It’s just name recognition.

I think the median user is a 45 year British lib-dem voter with an intense suspicion of anything artsy or experimental as being covert propaganda for Jeremy Corbyn.
