Without sounding mad explain what's so bad about them.
>>
>>131282519
they're so fucking cool
>>
Nothing, they're just so of their time that their shit has aged worse than most other punk and pop punk acts. Dookie and Insomniac capture a youth energy that doesn't exist anymore because Zoomers don't go outside and the ones that do are fake and American Idiot has no novelty anymore and lost its teeth
>>
went overtly political. you can go fringe political, but when it becomes your whole thing, it's just really gay. they're no different than kid rock.
>>
>>131282519
They were already middle-aged men when they were dressing and acting like that and making the same slop music for 12-year-olds.
>>
>>131282519
lack of riffs
>>
>>131282519
why are band photos always so cringe?
>>
>>131282519
Demented leftist views. Dad rock. Punk for 10 year olds.
>>
>>131282588
I agree up until the kid rock thing. I like to pretend american idiot doesn't exist though.
>>
>>131283502
yeah I didn't listen to the whole album but judging by the hit singles (Boulevard, September) I agree. Basket Case is a timeless classic though whatever some might say. I don't understand why people hate them but give Avril Lavigne a pass "because she was so hot bro..." Cringe.

I love their early work and I was pretty shocked when I heard American Idiot the first time. I couldn't believe this was the same band. The ties and skinny suits and whatnot. It reeked of midlife crisis or something. 9/11 really fucked us up as a country. We still haven't recovered
>>
Zoomers think American Idiot is their peak. Green Day peaked at Dookie/Insomniac. Kerplunk is okay... first album sucks.
They had a good single "Nice Guys Finish Last" but really when Nimrod came out they were pretty much full gay.
>>
>>131282519
EXTREMELY derivative. Repetitive. Too much posing.
>>
>>131282519
Their music is just not very good. I liked Boulevard of Broken Dreams when I was like 12, that's about it.
>>
>>131282519
>we have no more good material
>we're too old to sing about teenage angst
>what do we do now?

>POLITICS

Nearly every single one of their songs is plagiarized. It's actually kind of impressive.
>>
>>131284049
ok link the songs and the songs they ripped off
>>
They're clearly fans of music as a whole, but they have one reliably good song and it's the one(s) where Billie goes on about his mental health or whatever while they set a tight, simple, catchy tune to it. Kudos to them catching a second zeitgeist moment with American Idiot I suppose, but that's why the first 4 albums are good. It's also why Dilemma's the best song they've written in years, it's just rehashing the one good song they can write. God knows they've tried almost everything at this point though.
>>
>>131282519
They just said they are not a political band lmao
>>
>>131286156
prolly worried they'll get Bataclan'd now

>>
>>131283592
american idiot was definitely the album where they lost the sauce but "jesus of suburbia" is genuinely in their top 5 best songs
>>
they're not fucking green.
>>
>>131283610
My take is that the success of "Time of Your Life" is what fucked them up. They got it into their heads that they weren't a lighthearted joke band anymore, they had to take themselves seriously now. But as the arrested development manchildren they are, their idea of "seriousness" was/is horribly immature and cringe.
>>
>>131287118
i love jesus of suburbia. it's a shit sounding song but feels improvised and raw. it's more defining of the time than everything else that made them famous in the american idiot era
>>
They sold out harder than the other "punk" sellouts.
>>
>>131286202
>Bataclan'd
eagles of death metal were apolitical

The political stuff in American Idiot is extremely surface level, its barely a step above saying "the president is a motherfucker, the military is evil, paying taxes sucks". Their newer releases on top of not sounding like proper punk anymore also dont even sound political its just Armstrong singing about making out with bitches.
Point at me the political material in Father of all Motherfuckers, nigga, im gonna sit down and wait.
>>
>>131290178
No one can sell out harder than Panic, no one, Brendan Urie destroyed that band to seek pop hits and only pop hits.
>>
It's mostly that they're disliked because Millenials hate admitting they used to own their CDs when they were 15.
