The archetypal rock musician was a genius who got up at 2 pm to do drugs and bang groupies before knocking off another rough and real masterpiece.Hip hop in its simple melody elicits that feeling of stoic cool and control. Totally unfazed even when angry. Pure cool. The decline of both rock and rap has seen the simultaneous rise of musicians who are cool in the classical sense. KPop is not cool. It is the antithesis of cool. Fans know they are a packaged squeaky clean product… and they like that. The pop stars are selected and trained by a company and their behaviour intensely monitored. Their formulaic happy clappy pop songs written for them. What does this say about society?
