It's getting rough out there for producers and audio engineers.
>>
did he spend it all on cocaine or something? he sounds like he should have made millions working so long and sort of high profile?
>>
>>131289986
It sounds like he worked on maybe one (1) song that got any significant radio play and wasn't really making his money as a composer or engineer but was mostly surviving on temporary gig work and rode that wave until younger fresher people stepped up to get the same jobs.
Sounds like at some point he needed to buckle down and use his connections when they were relevant to land a stable but boring industry job at a major film/music studio to churn out pop hits and Disney movies but instead stayed solo and independent so he could keep his intellectual and creative stimulation and not sell out to the man.
Nobody who was actually a pro would suddenly find themselves as a van driver before throwing themselves at the mercy of working for a radio station or as a strip club DJ or something.

>woah bro...you mean.....not every music producer is like max martin??????? woah man......................
>>
>>131289986
no, sounds like he was just some D-level producer making low 6 figures during his height, like a Rick Beato type. His top 40 song was likely him and 5 other producers sharing credits on one song.
>>
Sounds like he is full of shit because you could just put your work on those songs in your resume and with actual know how he could apply with promoters as tech. Would be starting over from shit, too but better than amazon.
>>
>>131290111
he says he was doing it for 20 years, so clearly he was doing it full-time as his main source of income for that time.
>>
>>131289509
LCD Soundsystem guy was just some nobody producer fraud and when he realized this he decided to make his own shit and bam, hit the jackpot.
>>
>>131289509
>Pro Tools and plugin subscriptions

AHAHAHAHA no wonder he’s shit with money
>>
>>131289509
>unitonically PAID for pro tools and plugins
Oh nonono hahaha. Most limp wristed thing i've ever read.
>>
so what exactly changed in the past one or few years for him compared to over a decade ago when home-recording was really taking off and *that* was supposed to be the death blow for audio engineers?

sounds more like this guy just fucked up not keeping himself cemented in the scene with repeat customers/networking etc or refused to adapt to the social media landscape.
>>
>>131290992
>>131291028
they probably make you use pro tools if you work in the industry
>>
>>131291074
could be more people are using AI
>>
>>131291074
Mixing and mastering was magic that you needed some sweaty nerd like OP to do for you until recently. Now you just ask an AI to do it for you
>>
>>131291201
>>131291099
so this guy specifically had clients who dropped him for AI but every other professional is fine? kinda doubt that was the main factor.
people who are that lazy and don't care already weren't putting the extra effort in to pay anybody at alll.
>>
>>131291244
could be he had a lot of corporate clients who need jingles for ads and now they use AI instead.
>so this guy specifically had clients who dropped him for AI but every other professional is fine?
people probably aren't fine. The people at the top in the music industry or those who have actual employment are fine. Freelancers like him likely aren't and he's just being vocal about it.
>>
>be a freelancer they said
>you don't wanna be an employee to some boss they said

>AI STOLE MY JOB

Why didn't he just rope? What a coward
>>
>>131289509
He's pretty much finished, things will not get better. Delivering dildos for Amazon is a much more useful job than 'producing' but he seems to think it's beneath him, which is very insulting to anyone who works for Amazon. I have zero sympathy and now I'm going to order a bunch of dildos off Amazon so he has to deliver them to me. Then I will strike him down with my dildos and throw him in the trash.
>>
>>131291768
>he seems to think it's beneath him,
it is. If you're smart enough to be a musician and use a DAW professionally, then you're way too smart to be driving a truck delivering shit.
>>
>>131291805
lol you're unemployed
>>
>>131289509
Sounds like he either made some money and completely wasted it instead of saving or investing, or he produced one decently successful song and expected to live off royalties for the his life
>>
>>131289509
this is the corporate hellscape we have engineered since approximately 1980. you will own nothing. you will be happy. you will be nothing more than a number and serf for megacorp and the shareholders
>>
>>131291075
Loads are using Logic or Cubase
Only boomers and boomer studios are still stuck with Pro Tools
>>
>>131289509
You can't be a sound guy at a venue or something? Not even high school AV department?
>>
>>131289509
if youre 40 and having to work at amazon...bro what the hell were you doing with your life?

Delivering vibrators is spreading more happiness and pleasure than most music these days. A benefit for the world.

>or as a strip club DJ

lol what world you living in zoomer?

99% of clubs don’t have a DJ. the ones that do are insanely competitive with hundreds and hundreds of rando’s at your same level if you’re not known…

https://youtu.be/PupDknwttD4

and on top of it all you’re competing with hot chicks who actually play good music. you think redditor is getting the job over her?
>>
>>131289509
Why doesn't he just starve to death in a gutter?
>>
>>131289509
>late 30's
>no OTJ experience
>no degree
>>
>>131289509
Well, now he can spend his work time listening to music non-stop and listen to better composers than him. Seems like a huge win.

Reddit is peak faggotry. Holy fucking nigger balls. That retard should’ve diversified his finances and not placed all of his eggs in the “music industry” basket. He has no one to blame but himself.

He's like some pre-rock pop arranger in 1968 complaining he can't find work anymore.

>But I arranged that one Eddie Fisher hit 15 years ago I am important ffs
