I AM A MANWHO LOOKS AFTER THE PIGS
LOOOOOOOOVEREIGNO'ERME
>>131300581it's really good. imagine if this were released now. townsend would be treated like a god, the savior of rock music. no rock of this melody, majesty, complexity, power, vision, virtuosity, insight, etc. is being made today. i'm not even a simp for the who it's just sad how far the west has fallen.

>>131304275that's what he said
>>131304275Anon the song is called Love Reign O'er Me
>>131302522This movie is so weird - it's a pretty shit adaptation of the actual narrative of the album, but it's also super cool because it's basically a neorealist after-school special. Also young Toyah Willcox was cute as hell. The Tommy movie mogs though.
>>131300581it has some of the individually finest who tracks despite being an overlong self-indulgent piece of shit as a whole
>>131300581Funds more research.
>>131300581The best prog album and it's not even prog.
>>131307713I think it's a lot more cohesive and sophisticated as a complete work than Tommy, but it still does kind of devolve into over-extended repetitive instrumental filler in the latter half.

Quadrophenia [MCA, 1973]Unlike Tommy, this one really is a kind of opera--first you get to know the music, then you sit down with the libretto and concentrate for eighty minutes. Even with the synopsis (as brilliant a piece of writing as Townshend's ever done) and lyrics, its account of a young Mod's "double schizophrenia" can be pretty confusing, partly because confusion is his subject. The music is cluttered with horns and unnecessarily shrill, so that--despite its considerable melodic (and motivic, as they say) pizzazz--you don't play it for fun. But if Townshend's great virtue is compassion, this is his triumph--Everykid as heroic fuckup, smart enough to have a good idea of what's being done to him and so sensitive he gets pushed right out to the edge anyway.
