I went to try out for a band (drumming) and none of the guys were wearing hearing protection.

Based. Taking care of your ears is for pussies

I wear ear plugs (or noise canceling earbuds) under earmuffs. I'm double protected. Had to take them off just to talk to the guys.

having the tintin and writing music that harmonizes with the ring is peak the music experience. hope you gave them a lecture so they know how big a bullet they dodged if they hired your candy ass

unironically smart. don't let anyone shame you or convince you otherwise

They said they wished they wore ear protection when they were younger, I suppose now it's just sunk cost lol

Even the one earmuff feels a bit too loud now. I played with just that for a while. It's probably around 90-95db or thereabouts with the one pair so not too bad if it's only an hour a day or so. For the split seconds I took the earmuffs off playing with them I wondered how they sat there for an hour destroying their eardrums lol.

I only play flutes in my room at a low volume and sometimes the high notes hurt my ears a little, i can't imagine playing loud electric rock music with a band in a closed room without ear protection, those guys are retards, OP.

I've had tinnitus for like 15 years. It sucks and people should protect their ears but it's not that fucking bad. This dude's a pussy

Audiologist here. Everyone has tinnitus if you go into a quiet enough room. And I have dealt with cases where the tinnitus has been life ruining and people who are suicidal because of how severe it can be.

Usually veterans, sometimes poor fellas in their 20s, sometimes people who have had some kind of trauma, illness, chemo, injury, etc.

It is an early sign of hearing damage so if you develop tinnitus it might mean that when your age-related hearing loss kicks in later in life it might kick in faster and harder. It might not. Nobody should panic but everyone should protect their ears. You don't have to wrap your head in concrete, sound dosage is all about magnitude and time. You can handle 100dB without risk for 10-15 minutes. You can handle 90dB for up to a couple hours. I go to loud shows (with proper earplugs that sound good, none of this foam shit) and take the plugs out for a few songs and back in for a few songs. It's all good.

Lot of orchestra musicians having earring loss and it's usually from their own instrument (not in the case of brass, in those cases it's the poor oboe cunts in front of them). Violinists have a noise notch in their ear, flutists as well especially because of the register - a lot of the energy lands right where noise induced hearing loss occurs (that's why even a flute can make your ears hurt on certain notes)

not bloody likely
