This is still my favorite album of all time. Its grandiosity, the way it moves from megalomania to confession and resignation to loss and doubt. It is the greatest artist statement album ever.

It's his least personal album, by far. If you don't like Kanye's ideas and creative direction, you're going to love it. That was the explicit goal. Everything else he's ever done is distinctly his own, while this one was him brute-forcing the most accessible album possible out of sheer necessity.
This shit was a humiliation ritual. It reads as an apology for getting too uppity. He had to pander to the normies and critics that hated him. It was the only way for him to prove to the mainstream that he deserved another chance after his image had been trashed.
Being under that kind of pressure, he pulled it off flawlessly. The final product is completely soulless and inoffensive. Those attributes can obviously be a good thing for a lot of people.
