Foghat: Energized [Bearsville, 1974]
Conceived in memory of Chuck Berry when Kim Simmonds began handing out Kenny Burrell chord books to his Savoy Brown cohorts in 1970, this band has taken a good idea way too far. Rod Price's ubiquitous slide and Dave Peverett's iniquitous rave are decent trademarks, but energized becomes enervating in the absence of dynamic changes. Is good competent rock really good and competent if its excitement never transcends the mechanical? Is that what getting off means? So maybe they're not good and competent. B-

how did that old joke go? "I only ever met one Foghat fan. He was 45, lived in a double wide, and blamed his ex-wife for everything."
>>

Nobody remembers this band for a reason: They sucked.

we forgot to post this album in the 1974 thread. turns out that 150 images is not enough to get everything.

Roger Earl is the only surviving original member of Foghat.
>>
1972 - Foghat
1974 - Energized
1975 - Fool For The City
1977 - Foghat Live
1980 - Tight Shoes

I remember...having discovered Foghat much too late.

The first record was my favorite, Dave Edmund's production was perfect for them. I like them all until Boogie Motel, 1979. An ill-conceived attempt at going disco.

Hey now they could play real good.

Songs not immediate and up-front enough for him I guess.

Right on

they rocked pretty hard but weren't really a song band the way Aerosmith were
>>
Foghat’s first album was produced by Dave Edmunds…wha?!?!
>>
Their 90's reunion stuff is pretty excellent as well but once Dave Peverett & Rod Price died, it was over.

They should change the name to Fauxhat.
>>
I could never figure out if the band's name is a reference to a condom or what.

You think he'd have liked their very stripped, back-to-basics rock.
>>
>>131312442
aw hell yeah these guys ripped live. just unapologetic hard rock.
>>
all critics should be thrown into wood chippers

He hated REO Speedwagon too even though they should have also been the stripped hard rock he always idealized.
>>

Aerosmith had great songs and albums, but were much more of a studio band and back in the 70s were known for being crap live because they couldn't really play most of their stuff.
>>

Bad Company were like a lower energy version of Foghat with better songwriting.
>>
>Slowride
kino
>My Babe

>literally everything else

This could easily be a Zappa album cover
