>>131342178you could make music from the sound of someone taking a shit. everything is a musical note. how is a synth any different from any other thing that produces sound?
team oasis actuallyhttps://vocaroo.com/11WRg3JeMNYB
>>131344927>everything is a musical noteno. musical notes have the quality of pitch, due to containing partials with frequencies related to the harmonic series. what pitch is white noise? it doesn't have an inherent pitch. but a piano, a flute a square wave... these things have pitch. ergo you cannot shit out a major chord>how is a synth different from other things that make soundthey aren't real, they're synthetic. that's why we call them synths.look i actually have nothing against synths in principle. they can definitely be used in interesting ways, there are hundreds of electronic music artists that are great.but none of yall niggers are doing that, you are making the most boring ass basic bitch beginner ableton youtube tutorial music and it's just a fucking waste of time to listen to because it isn't interesting or moving or expressing anything. it's like you all started bands but you just play wonderwall and stairway to heaven badly
>>131345183>they aren't real, they're syntheticthere are trumpet mutes that are digital. does that mean if you use one of those you aren't really playing the trumpet?
>bas music is bad>when anons do boring things with their instruments and play badly they make bad music, which is not interesting or goodbig brain post over here bros
>>131345212i don't think those are doing what you think they are doing lmao>>131345228but that's the thing, when people suck at guitar or trumpet they know they're not good yet. but because there is no inherent difficulty in getting a bunch of synths to make noise in tune and be in time etc, people don't necessarily need to develop musical skills in order to produce shitty edm. so there is just orders of magnitude more shitty 'producers' making music that is completely utterly ass and thinking it's hot shit.
Do you like this?https://voca.ro/1oPqZZK08Jgd
>>131344914>i had a surgery on my vocal cords due to reasons and they said i would never be able to sing again.Sorry to hear about this, but I think you sound great -- I love everything about this (except maybe the mixing, but my speakers are shit, so it could be me). >>131345292so your complaint is… numbers based?there is just a lower barrier to entry to make electronic music. many awful terrible instrument players exist. probably more in fact, because of school extra curriculars and hobby guitarists.they just don’t all attention whore on… 4chan. they’re there if you look for them on youtube, which you obviously don’t.regardless you’re being a whiney loser posting about this at all

I’m trying to finish my last album before i troon because i know my music is going to get that much worse.
>>131358284have you tried making something good that people want to respond to?
Because music is so subjective it's hard to review sometimes, because it's like, I guess they wanted it to sound like that. If you don't ask for specific feedback it's hard to comment on especially a WIP that you're not sure what the artist is aiming for
>making a Matmos-esque album entirely out of manipulated gay porn samples would this be a worthwhile endeavor? I certainly have more than enough raw material to work with
>>131358331only people with extremely narrow perspective who don’t “get” art say this kind of shit and i mean that 100% unironically.being unable to infer intent means you’re ignorant about something and that’s fine.being unable to tell if there’s intent at all means you don’t understand the medium or have some kind of emotional or social dysfunction.
I dont want anyone to be forced to give feedback, if something comes to mind then sure share it, but really i just want to see if anyone likes it and take a lack of (you)s as "its mid"
>>131358372missing:much of what sucks ITT sucks for reasons other than the poster not adequately fulfilling their intent.there is none, or their taste sucks. that’s completely ignoring other glaringly obvious technical or form based details which you are able to comment on without knowing anything else.
>>131358342that’s a dumb gimmick and your sense of humor sucks if that was a joke.don’t post again or i’m leaving you a ticket.t. chief of fun police
>>131358390now I'm 100% gonna actually do it irl
I noticed a trend where decent vocaros get no replies only garbage does to mock or "school" the poster so all in all it's your typical downer shit where people who are better are ignored since most posters here are garbage that don't even know basic music theory
>>131358581oh and then they go "well umm if you get no replies it means it's shit" when in reality anything that IS actually shit attracts the most troll and insult posts so in a sense if you want a (You) here just pretend to be absolute garbage and clueless so some dunning sperg can "teach" you now to make music
>>131358581>i’m so hot that guys are actually intimidated and that’s why i never get approached!the reality is you’re BORING.if a vocaroo is extremely shit then people will point out the glaring faults because there is something obvious to say.if it’s good people will tell you because they genuinely like it or hear technical ability.if you’re BORING it inspires no reaction, and thus no response.get over yourself
>>131358581>I noticed a trend where boring vocaros get no repliesftfy

lmao bunch of local dunnings got triggered, like what do you expect people to do ITT exactly? post their work for nothing? OP literally says post vocaroos, people do and then a bunch of bitter dunnings cherry pick shit to mock instead of actually replying to all submissions. Like even is it's "boring" this thread supposed to be about feedback do you need a reason to not get it here? Shit is clearly dead and proper musicians long left, useless thread.

>>131356342you legitimately don't need to know any of my supposed "requirements", i am just seeking to expand my toolset and explore the different possibilities within music production
>>131358872no problem, if you need any recommendations for vsts / plugins etc i can guide you ig, i just know my shit cause seriously people get too used to piss poor shit, theres plenty of free stuff i like a lot though kill DRM for plugins
>>131355811Some of the most useful plugins I've ever used are Pro-L2 and Pro-C2 and it's because of the audition feature they have where you can listen to a delta so you can hear exactly what you're compressing.
>>131355669Can't back up my association for the faster part of the song off the top of my head, but the opening was specifically inspired by thishttps://youtu.be/X2wMRydTqFc?is=Zjip-6SyfONUECAaI do like the After song though. I wanna keep the orchestral sound and the faster half's mix is full, but I do wanna switch out that obtuse synth in the start.>>131348671Idk what that means but I think frutiger aero is going to be with us for a while just like "analog horror" has been, considering the nostalgia wave still hasn't fully gone through the 2000s. And disagree about the melody I find it highly catchy.
>>131358895well big difference that sticks out straight away is that Wii track doesnt use what sounds like a detuned piano you'd find in a bar in cowboy times fixing that in your track would prob help a lot
>>131358895> considering the nostalgia wave still hasn't fully gone through the 2000scool kids have been in the 10s for a minute where have you been lmao
>>131342150https://voca.ro/1cNARSrLX0anJames Blake/Benny Sings type shitI reworked the second pre-chorus and chorus to be totally different from the first one because I don't like copying and pasting Mixing probably needs work to be consistent
>>131358595>pretend to be absolute garbage and cluelesshaha yes, I do love to pretend
>>131358581Sometimes it's as simple as there being no anons around familiar with the genre. I think that counts for a lot, especially if you are intermediate and understand and are working within a genres rules. You need someone else who also understands, but is more experienced to help with feedback. Sometimes it's because someone posts their musical equivalent of Sonichu drawings. What are you supposed to say to that?
>>131357657how can you not see that the problem is with you? not the plugins or the gear. you're so fucking stupid that it defies belief.

>>131363034cockos reaper, because no other daw is as light and flexible compared to it? i geniunely didnt like fl studio, clunky workflow for me and i guess ableton is cool and all but not for me, same for bitwig which is a little cooler than ableton because of the gridyou either choose between using maxmsp or the grid reaper also just allows you to use community made scripts to help you and theres jsfx, and reascript is cool too to make your own series of chained events
>>131363034i use my chosen daw because every other one i tried did not stick and i have used this one long enough that i have become an adept and speedy user of it, thus it would make no sense to wander at this point for anything other than specialized tasks.

>>131367432That all sounds lovely. Hope to see you in a shill thread.>1176Is there any reason I should nab this when I've got a million compressor plugins? Also re: session musicians, I get pretty jealous of my favorite bands who are all made up of lifelong friends. Fuckers.
>>131367651uhhh for me it's like, the big city and colour and bright eyes albums both use SM7B into MC77 on vocal, and it's like a very particular sound cos like...MC77 is like.... harsh on top? in comparison to a urei 76? but with sm7b it kinda makes it sound like a condenser to my ears? like it makes it so i don't need to shelf up top, which i hate doing because i don't know what frequency and how muchalso sm7b is a necessity to this genre because if the vocal's any bigger then the instrumental needs to get bigger and then it suddenly doesn't sound like lo-fi anymoreand idk, i can hear that it's harsher when i add the mc77 plugin after my outboard, so if i get the outboard mc77 then i get MORE compression but less audible compression artifacts, and i get a more pleasing saturated top without having to EQ or saturate itbalso RE: session musicians. idk i've made some lifelong friends through session music too so i guess it goes both ways haha. the girl i sing with, she and i both glaze each other, i mean she's such a talented writer too, i hate to send her rough mixes i just wanna send her finals to perform on haha>>131367642yea idk. routing, gain staging, and noise, are like... SO FUCKING ANNOYING in analog. but overall it's worth it when i see my DAW tracks with only 1 or 2 plugs on them. would rather get 6k of outboard than a new 6k macbook which inevitably traps me into shitty plugins
>>131367651>Is there any reason I should nab thisno not really, a 76 style comp plugin is about the same as the others, if they have another tone its probably something like internal eq to sell it to you, the purple one is good but i use UAD and thats about it, you can also use a free one too, it works about the same>>131367699>sm7b is a necessityfor your style of songs i feel like it might not be, the sm7b is just chosen because it handles high spl, its an excellent mic for rock and metal though.>i can hear that it's harsher when i add the mc77 plugin after my outboardrouting issue? not working at a high enugh sample rate? plugins sound different with it> only 1 or 2 plugs on themwhy so? you dont like mixing in the box? analog gear is plenty liked because it adds noise which is kinda bad if it stacks up but ig adds "mojo" as some say, its why plugin alliance stuff has this "TMT" stuff in it which is also kind of shit, if you watched Dan Worall maybe you'd understand it?
>>131367740>it works about the sameagain for me, AND I'M WEIRD, it's like, if you listen to this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzQS3LcG3lo[context: this is definitely a sm7b vocal and likely km84 acoustic guitar]i know i'm 99% there if i just track a vocal at distance with an sm7b, mc77 at 4:1 attack 4 release max, LA2A for 3db levelling, then some automating -- and then like i'm DONE y'know? like i don't want to have to do that ITB or be able to edit that after the performance. and i don't want to EQ anything more than like a 2db shelf down at 120hz and a 2db shelf up at 10k -- any complexities of the midrange shoudl be solved during tracking and arrangement imo, and that's why i like sm7b for vocal cos it just sticks the voice in one spot in the mids and takes up no other space -- then the mc77 can handle its top end detail. in fact if it's too harsh after the mc77 i know the vocal needs to have the fader brought down -- and if it's too bassy after a low shelf then i should've backed off the mic during trackingi have the UAD 76 too but it's like, again i just don't want to futz with the top end after the fact. it messes with the mojo of that bright eyes thing where i know if i use all the right tools as curated by my taste profile, i know all i'll have to do in my DAW is just fader movement and bus compression>>131367740>you dont like mixing in the box?idk i just know there's not a lot of effects on my favourite records and that if i have a ton of effects on my tracks then idk, just gets me further from what i'm meant to be doinglike if i have a UAD 76 instead of a purple one then i know i gotta boost top + use a saturator afterwards and it's like bruh i don't like these variables, too nerdy compared to what people were doing in 2005 to 15ips
>>131367793>then the mc77 can handle its top end detaili mean its a middle of the road comp, its a 76, the high end isnt going to get compressed, just the general vocal, unless its multiband, you probably mean general spikes that make you think that the high end increased but infact its the whole thing due to perception at a certain phon. (general ear fatigue)its good that you have this workflow if you want to achieve this sound though, i dont judge you by that. just curious how far you would go to get that "sound" you desire when in the box can do about the same sort of, literally why mixing engineers do "magic">dk i just know there's not a lot of effects on my favourite records and that if i have a ton of effects on my tracks then idk, just gets me further from what i'm meant to be doingyeah i get ya.

>>131373240idk i didn't really know what to do for a long time. my ex will have been gone for 4 years in december. i initially started this project with the message of like "i've grown to not be angry if you came back" behind all the songs, but now it's just, idk, years of bad have outweighed the good, and it's time to reach for something better. idk why she and her friends have been prank calling me over the phone and IG but idk, i think if things were meant to work out they would've worked out by now. she was latvian by nationality but russian by ethnicity and i think i'm just gonna go to russia and find a similar-looking chick with a more functional, less bpd brain (pic related)that and really TRY with music. idk. i thought she was an exceptional person like me, but now that i look back, i guess she was just mirroring me, and she's just a normal consumerist materialist white-defaulting navel-gazing westernised brainrot dogbrain chick like the rest of the eastern expats. idk, call me crazy but i'm gonna reach for a stable supermodel wife, 100k+ listeners and to keep winning at my writing jobidk, who can even look at these bjork and grimes threads anymore. they're not insightful people, they're just pretty airheads. imagine charles bukowski saying or doing any of the things that they've done, and people would realise they're just airheads. idk. i think there's a better woman out there for me, one whose goals are the same as my goals, y'know, to make stuff, and do stuff, and make something of life, rather than to just consume until we all dieidk there's no point to this rant. i just miss the person that i was when she was around, but i gotta resign myself to being alone for the rest of my life if i want to do this exceptional stuff. no more being weighed down by wanting a normie gf and normie life. I'M BUYING THE FUCKING HARDWARE, FUCK AN APARTMENT

>>131373763eh i fell into that trap for a while, the thought that i was incomplete as a person and that self-work would lead me to some higher plane of existence and make me worthy of loveheck in the 4 years since she left i got a crazy good job, got into insane shape, wrote some really amazing music, learned a new language, did all this stuffbut the truth is, everyone's pretty much complete as they are, and the whole grind mentality is so thoroughly autistic and malei have no trouble attracting women really, just i wasn't interested in anyone other than my ex. probably won't ever be, but if it's not to work out then yeah sure a supermodel would be nice to have aroundotherwise it's what, date another normie art hoe and have them go "look at my art!!!" and it's some masturbatory zero effort zero budget bullshit that they do in order to identify as artsy and i have to go "it's great hun!!" because the chick is pretty and no one's told her no in her life? it's stupid but that's what most people fall into. that or just, white-defaulting, consumerist, projection of a good personality onto someone that looks good, dual income buy a house in the boonies. fuck normal peoplewe were put on this earth to DO things, and again, put charles bukowski's face over what 99% of chicks (and dudes for that matter) are saying and doing and it's just a waste of airbut please, continue to aggrandize people's vapidity, be complicit in the dehumanisation and infantilisation of women, and tell me more about how self-improvement will make you more worthy of real love (no such thing for 99% of people)you're complete as you aredon't fall into the consumerist self-improvement trap that people sell you, when deep down, even progressive people are self-excusing consumerist eugenicist nazis. there is nothing you can buy and nothing you can train to escape the waste of space that is 99% of the populationthat's why we make things, because we're meant to be worth our carbon footprint
>>131374091you keep mentioning bukowski like he’s not the flipped version of exactly what you’re talking about lol.>the whole grind mentality is so thoroughly autistic and maleagreed. you still sound sexist as hell though, which kind of circles back around to the “work on yourself” point- if you maintain these attitudes the people (women) you end up around are going to be deficient in a way that makes them compatible.
>>131374286bukowski was good! the best of what he did was between the lines, and i don't think people get that, and it filters 99% of women because they can't into object ideation or perspectives communicated by anything other than an avatar of themselves>>131374286>you still sound sexist as hell thoughnah bro i'm being genuine humanist rn, if you hear how someone who identifies as a feminist speaks about women, it's way more infantilising and dehumanising than anything i've said, they just paint it in a pretty way and it works because 99% of people cannot into object ideation or perspectives from people other than an avatar of themselves. like anyone that gives a woman grace for being "the emotional" gender, anyone that gives a woman grace for her period, or applauds her art for being "new" even if it's the same 3 chord bullshit just sang in an ASMR voice produced by some pimplefaced dude. idk, our society became pornbrained and didn't even realise it. now we have BPDemon phoebe bridgers and white-worshipping olivia rodrigo as champions of the female gender and art's become placidwomen can be great at making stuff. off the top of my head there's fiona apple, courtney love, and... that's it off the top of my head. but if chicks could step outside of how infantilised they are by people that equate genuine intellectual equality as misogyny, they could probably make stuff as good as fiona apple and courtney lovebut that's idk, it's a lot to ask. more reasonable to find a nice russian chick who understands that her goals and my goals are the same goals and work towards them together, rather than to ask the average westie to not be a hedonist dogbrained waste of space and time and moneyso there's no attitude to maintain lol. if i give this up, then i end up with some used up 35 year old swiftie bitch instead of the actual beautiful thing in life which is giving yourself to one another when you're young and actually giving up something profoundly irreplaceable
>>131374482i actually like bukowski's prose a lot, i just read it with the ability to discern that while some of his attitudes were gross the art is still there and it doesn't completely ruin his works.>they just paint it in a pretty way and it works becausethis is devolving into ragebait with how self unaware you are. i would say you're trolling if it didn't sound so genuine.regardless i hope you're able to grow out of all this and find happiness since you don't sound like you're *trying* to be an ass or anything i guess.

Anyway, if you're curious I used 4 instances of Pro-C2 each at -12dB on the threshold, 30ms attack, 50% auto release, 185Hz high passes out of the sidechain and the ratio went from 4:1>2:1>1.5:1>1.25:1. Probably more compression that necessary but each instance wasn't doing any more than a couple of dB. Pro-L2 at the end probably did like 3-4dB of limiting at most. I just really like the sound of compression lol.

you are very bad, stupid people. you will never get anywhere as far as making music that is actually great, maybe you can play gigs or mix songs to make ends meet or as a side hustle but for 99% of musicians it doesn't even beat having a normie job. an anon said autechre surely have a day job (maybe the anon was one of autechre himself so he would know).
