This would have been the next Nirvana album, had Cobain not died. It would feature songs like Sappy, You Know You're Right, Do Re Mi and maybe even Opinion, and Old Age. It would have been less grunge, and more REM-oriented
>>
>>131393302
Which REM? 80's version or the more radio friendly 90s version?
>>
>>131393316
80s version
>>
I mean seriously, what kind of question is that?
>>
>>131393316
What if Michael Stipe fronted Nirvana for a reunion tour.
>>
>>131393317
>>131393316
No, it would have been the 90s version. He loved pop songs beatles style. Period. The New Cobain ( clean from drugs, stomach issues treated, and divorced from Courtney ) would have absolutely adored Oasis and Weezer, the kind of music he would have made if he lived, and went through all those changes, was going to be so incredible like nothing we have ever seen, it would have reshaped the whole idea of music.
>>
>>131393371
He wanted to go back a little, because he was disillusioned with what he became. He might have enjoyed Oasis songs, but totally abhor them for what they are, same as GNR. However, he would be totally fine with Weezer, and maybe even have a tour with them.
>>
>>131393317
That would be cool, not sure Cobain could pull it off since his voice sounded fucked during In Utero. Listening to some of the songs on their reminded me of how Harry Nilsson sounded on Pussycats after he permafucked his voice.
>>
>>131393370
Or Beck "I'm a Loser Baby" Hansen?
>>
>>131393302
If you listen to Do Re Mi it's clear he was heading into a more R.E.M. style sound.

>>
>>131393393
He wouldn't, but you can bet your ass, he would've tried. Who knows, it might have been his first commercial blunder, but it would certainly be bolded on RYM

>>131393400
and let's not forget that he was a close friend with Stipe, to the point, Stipe wrote a song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cdZQ41rGAg
>>
>>131393407
Yeah he used to call him Stipey. Which Courtney Love later carried on.
>>
>>131393384
He liked Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith and he very obviously liked heavier guitar tones. I think he would've made a more chill album like the Smashing Pumpkins did with Adore and then turn into something heavier.
>>
>>131393400
Yeah but no fucking way the radio would have played that song due to the lyrics. Same already happened with Rape Me.
>>
>>131393417
Fucking Courtney Love. Everything she says, she somehow makes it dirty. Even when she says something innocent, like "sunny day, and green grass"
>>
>>131393441
>I think he would've made a more chill album like the Smashing Pumpkins did with Adore
BINGO. YES
>>
>>131393441
We missed out on phase three Cobain when he would go full Creed/Nickleback
>>
>>131393472
People treat nirvana, as if they always played grunge. Pearl Jam was Grunge. Alice In Chains had some Glam Rock turned Doom Metal Heaviness. Soundgarden was early Power Metal meets Hard Rock. Nirvana was probably the earliest Sludge Metal band, turned into Power Pop, turned into abrasive Indie Experimental Rock. While his songs follow the same formula, he never had the same sound more than once
>>
>>131393455
>>131393472
Honestly the weirdest thing that's often lost among all the things he liked is that he did say (or write, to be fair) that he liked Celtic Frost. Kurt collabing with Mastodon like Josh Homme did is not entirely crazy to think about, it seems.
>>
>>131393493
and people also forget that Nirvana was highly influenced by The Melvins.
>>
>>131393493
I agree, my joke was more he would eventually run out of "newness" to pursue with his sound and somehow reverse uno his way into sounding like the bands that copied grunge.
>>
>>131393302
michael stipe himself has talked about nirvana's fourth album and what it would sound like if it were to ever be made, he heard some very early material, it was more orchestral and featured strings
>>
>>131393518
All of the "newness" was done by the time Nevermind came out. If anything, In Utero is a return to Bleach.
>>
>>131393507
He also listened to Unleashed. Not because he wanted to, but because Dave Grohl blasted it. He was aware of everything around him. Here's his review of Tool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Tz4Rh6VSjs

Thing is, one of the many things about nirvana that isn't discussed much, is that he hated electronics and techno music. I do wonder if he would go full Dylan and have a DJ Set Party in the 00s

And he would certainly sport a Wu Tang Shirt. Not because he understands hip-hop, but because it would piss off purists.
>>
>>131393528
And a big middle finger to music industry. But yeah Unplugged was a hint at new direction
>>
>>131393509
Yeah we know Buzz. You were friends with Kurt.
>>
>>131393302
I feel like he was done with Sappy. It's a good song though, they picked the wrong songs for In Utero
>>
>>131393550
;_;

A better question. Would Cobain do a collabo with Sigh? He liked Shonen Knife after all
>>
>>131393493
Nirvana was only grunge during the bleach album and I say this as a fan.
>>
>>131393601
Imagine Cobain playing Sax

>>131393678
What if they were never grunge, and it was just a made up word by journalists? Soundgarden called themselves Neo Metal
>>
>>131393536
>not because, but
>not because, but
Bot
>>
>>131393734
what? not everyone here is a native english speaker faggot
>>
>>131393763
I would argue, that native english speakers are a minority
>>
>>131393692
Now I'm thinking Cobain would go full Jeff Magnum and move away from rock to field recordings.

He was a contrarian faggot that would've talked down those popular growing bands and would've leaned more into obscure shit that no ones cared about like Leadbelly. You don't know nothing about insufferable people even after they get clean.
>>
>>131393982
I CAN SEE THAT
>>
>>131393982
*crickets know you're right*
>>
>>131394320
If he got clean, divorced Courtney, he would have changed. He wouldn't be plagued by his demented thoughts, his mind would be much more clear and clean, possibly the first time in decades that he felt so at peace with himself. He would have realised how cool Liam's behavior and Noel's quick wits are, he would have loved Weezer's pop simplicity and minimalistic cool guitar riffs.
>>
>>131394957
>sober people are not annoying and totally down to earth
>>
>>131393302
nobody cares about this faggot boy band from 90 years ago.
>>
>>131394320
>obscure shit that no ones cared about like Leadbelly.
Leadbelly is not obscure in the least and is one of the best and most revered early blues artists
>>
>>131393302
Cobain wanted to join Buzzcocks and/or The Fall
>>
>>131393302
You Know You're Right yeah but Opinion was a early 90s radio performance. Old Age was a nevermind outtake. Sappy got released on compilations. I just wouldn't see that happening in an alt timeline.
>>
>>131393371
>would have absolutely adored Oasis and Weezer

In many cases the state can aid you with your decision to end your life. It doesn't have to be all on you.
