nobody in the world can smoke enough weed to be on this band's level. i saw a documentary on the making of one of their albums where the singer put little marks and circles and highlights to specifically notate how to pronounce each word weirdly. that's the only kind of stuff you do when your band is high all the time. it's cool that they're jim o rourke produced but this kind of free improvisation isn't cool at all to me anymore even when it's paired with loose structures to guide it along.

Guitar wise both share the "2 lead guitars" approach, though US maple uses lots of long bendings and slides, they also don't mind some quiet minimalism while in Beefheart tunes everything has to be loud
