Do you still enjoy the depressing music you used to listen to once you became happy?
>>
>not starting out and becoming progressively more depressed and miserable as time goes on
you're doing it backwards

I never really became happy but I do feel like I matured past miserable music. Wallowing in self pity feels pathetic now

That's the opposite of maturing

No, I can't stand sad music for a long period of time

I prefer depressing music when I'm happy, and happy music when I'm depressed

Interesting. Why?

Sure, I still enjoy Cure and Dino Jr. I recall though finding Red House Painters "Mistress" pretty cringe when listening in ripe old age.

Yeah but I can't completely drown in it like I used to. You really start to realize constant negative emotion in music is just as destructive as surrounding yourself by other negative bullshit

Yeah... but then again it's not the stereotypical "Oh I feel like shit" depressing music either. More like "Que sera, sera" depressing music. I've read about the emotion/feeling that Russians call "toska", and I guess that fits:

>“Toska - noun /ˈtō-skə/ - Russian word roughly translated as sadness, melancholia, lugubriousness.

>"No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.”

tl;dr: yes, but then again I don't think their music is overly depressing either.
