Yello were my favorite group for a while but I think they really suffer from the same issue a lot of avant-garde artists do. Which is that they start off so committed to a futuristic, progressive sound that they end up flanderizing themselves later in their career. By the time you get to One Second, you've heard every idea Boris Blank can think of and the rest is just Deiter Meier going full retard. Without Carlos Perón they had nowhere to go. That song they made during Covid, Waba Duba, is literally something you'd hear from Modeselektor or some other cheesy techno band. It lacks the surrealist suave of Oh Yeah, which is especially ironic because that song was itself trying to replicate the vibe of their first three albums to no avail.
