This isn't britpop. It sounds nothing like britpop. It has more energy, texture, and beauty than any britpop. So why do people say it's britpop?
>>131414183>britpop>grungefake genres. listen to more music
>>131414200Oh, but shoegaze is a real genre
>>131414209They say it's britpop because it's clearly related to Oasis. Ride is Beatlesesque, Baggy-Shoegaze while Oasis is Beatlesesque Alt Power Pop with hints of Shoegaze and Baggy.
>>131414183Why do zoomers love shoegaze but don't care about Ride?
>>131414253No cute girl in the band to grab their attention
>>131414253Because Ride isn't shoegaze.
>>131414253Not sure if its just a zoomer thing, this board has been shitting on Ride forever. I don't get it, I think their first two albums are incredible.
>>131414262it is. the only album that was considerably disconnected from UK shoegaze was Loveless.
>>131414262Elaborate
>>131414280He can't, because he's trolling. They are obviously shoegaze. Everyone calls them shoegaze. Every website has them labeled as shoegaze. He probably just doesn't like them.
>>131414183biblical
>>131414918WE DON'T LIVE IN THE SAME WORLD
>>131414253I like this album a lot, fag. One of my favorite driving albums, especially when it's nice out.
>>131414183They had a britpop influence in some songs, specially in Going Blank Again.
>>131414183They say it to troll, ride are a shoegaze band
>>131414183cause similar to the verve they sold out and went britpop
>>131414253Their reunion albums are really underrated as wellThe latest one was kinda boring though
>>131414183Britpop isn't even a coherent genre.Blur, Oasis, Suede and Pulp all sound nothing like each other. In Blur's case most Blur albums don't even sound like other Blur albums.
>>131418956Blur was the 90s version of The Kinks, same themes and all.
>>131419030Blur were XTC for neurotypicals.
Who gives a fuck about labels, especially about a movement that died like 30 years ago? Only the most boring autists lament about that shit. And if it mistakingly makes more people listen to Ride, good for them.
>>131419068Blur were definitely the Blur of the 90s.
Britpop > Shoegaze desu.
>>131419575Tbh, shoegaze is just MORE navel gazing indie rock slop
>>131414266their SMILE compilation is great also… they were so impossibly young then, but you compare what they were doing as a band compared to the equally ingenue Lush… I love Lush, but, get real… Ride was actually a live proposition.
>>131414253because Ride isn't shoegazeits britpop
>>131420182Wrong
>>131419068They wanted Andy Partridge as producer for Modern Life Is Rubbish so there's that
>>131420553Alan wasn't available?
>>131419575Vomit inducing opinion
>>131418956Wasn't it more of a scene? And shoegaze was actually a scene too and all the copycats were just posers?
>>131420615They weren't meshing that well but it doesn't sound like another Andy and Todd Rundgren situation at least
>>131414183I have never heard anyone call this album britpop. It's shoegaze. They tried to go britpop later on Carnival of Light. In any case, mid band.
>>131414183These guys mog britpop into oblivion. Oasis and Blur could never make two nearly perfect albums in a row.
>>131419978Lush were just as good desuhttps://youtu.be/_uU5DU7P83EFunny that they also sold out and went britpop. I just pretend that final album doesn't exist
>>131414183It's not britpop, but it is probably the most britpop like shoegaze. Or at the least very 60s psych influenced
>>131421444simpgaze
>>131421463Regardless of how hot the women in Lush were, they made damn good music. The guitars and vocal melodies were elite
>>131421473Yeah I agree. Plus the women wrote all the songs, not like a lot of bands where the guy's the main writer and the woman's just the frontperson. They had a good mix of the Cocteau Twins sort of vocal style but with poppier girl group like song structures/harmonies
Albumwise, Ride obviously lacks compared to Slowdive and MBV. Too much stuff simply sounds the same. I like Dreams Burn Down and Vapour Trail though, fun songs
>>131421473>>131421509you are very easily impressed. you would probably be beabadoobee fans if you were honest with yourselves about how shit your taste is.
>>131421564Haha okay anon, you get +5 4chan points for not liking music, because as we all know it's cringe to actually enjoy music
>>131421588it's cringe to enjoy lush because they suck ass.
>>131421612I think it's cringe to say other people have shit taste for enjoying original music that wasn't written by a corporate assembly line
>>131421620again, you have very low standards.
>>131421638And what are you high standards, patrician anon and music connoisseur? Let's hear some of your favorite bands and artists.
>>131421647i prefer good music made by talented people instead of derivative shit made by airhead rich girls.
>>131421667Lush is great music made by very talented people. Now, again, please tell us your favorite bands.
>>131421671you seem to be confusing good music with derivative shit and confusing talented people with airhead rich girls
>>131421698>avoiding the question againOkayI bet our tastes overlap a lot. And if they don't, that's okay. If you like the music you listen to, that's all that matters. It's a subjective medium.I love Lush. Their music is gorgeous and so filled with energy. I vastly prefer them to Cocteau Twins (who I assume are the ones causing you to call them "derivative") because they have catchier melodies, and more substantial rhythm and guitars.
would
>>131421725>Their music is gorgeous and so filled with energy.no it's not.>cocteau twinsdumbass bitch from lush isn't fit to clean elizabeth fraser's boots. you disgust me.
>>131421510Slowdive's just for a day is objectively terrible. very very far from Nowhere and GBA
>>131421761Whatever man, I won't let your negativity ruin my enjoyment of what I love. Nor will I be mean to you for liking Cocteau Twins, because while I don't enjoy listening to them, I still respect their music and the opinions of those who do.>>131421762Just For A Day is gorgeous, I bought it on vinyl recently. I'd like Nowhere and Going Blank Again on vinyl too, two of my favorite album covers ever (in addition to the music being great)
>>131421805thing is are you actually talking about just for a day? modern releases are extended and include the EPs/singles that are much much better than the actual album
>>131421844I love the extra songs too, but yes I'm talking about the original release. Primal is an excellent closer.
>>131421862I always thought they had a lot of pressure and no time while recording it. The earlier Eps, singles and later demos and slouvaki are leagues above imo
>>131414183peak shoegaze, going blank again reaches toward what you reference but then they crash and produce turds
>>131421510had they stuck with shoegaze they wouldve turned out a /mu/core tier album to dethrone loveless
>>131414183we say it’s showgaze, newfag.
>>131414183This wave will be breaking soon ,but for now it is surging.
