Who was the better singer?

Cornell couldn't scream like Staley and his voice would crack in earlier live performances that required more raw screaming like with Jesus Christ Pose. Staley was an absolute workhorse

Cornell is unassailable. I don't simp, his wokeness and kind of aloof vibe are turnoffs, but he is one of the talented rock musicians of all time and his versatility and range are hard to even believe.

Love Layne tho.

Pure vocalism, nobody tops Layne. But if you add in songwriting and guitar then Cornell.

I'm more of a Layne guy myself. Was never a huge Soundgarden fan, but Superunknown still gets spun every once in a while.

Layne by far.
Cornell was good but he couldn't do low registers. His voice wasn't so versatile it mostly worked well in that screamed high register.
Plus Layne had volume too, not just great phrasing and range. He freaking thundered on the stage in his good days.

Cornell is great on his own, Staley worked the best with Cantrell
