Stella Lefkofsky[1] was born on August 13, 2002,[2] and was raised in Glencoe, Illinois, before relocating to Los Angeles, California.[3][1] Her father is multi-billionaire Eric Lefkofsky, a co-founder of Groupon who is also the founder and CEO of health technology company Tempus AI and media advertising company Mediaocean, among others.[4]

Ordinarily, I think claims like this are unwarranted; but the melodies for both choruses are virtually identical, and Stella covered "Stick Season" dozens of times on TikTok before she put out "Boston".

The song isn't even five years old! How is it even possible to be this shameless? People would've given her way less shit for this if she just credited Noah from the beginning.

I don't know about Geese but The Strokes were pushed SO hard. Covers of Spin, Rolling Stone, guy wearing their shirt in Transformers. I loved their music, but they were on all the late night shows, everywhere in the world EXCEPT the radio. The media tried really fucking hard to make The Strokes a thing.
Again, I like their music, but they were hyped as fuck and didn't ever get big.
I'm in my 40's now and have never witnessed a harder industry plant rock band than The Strokes.

This isn't how it works. Just because you're an industry plant doesn't mean you don't have a creative drive whatsoever. Even Taylor Gayle got a writing credit, and she's every bit as obvious an industry plant as Stella Lefty:

At that time there was a lot of nostalgia for the CBGB's era NYC scene and the press wanted to imagine the Strokes were a continuation of that scene, but the music was lame because the city had changed, during the Giuliani years it became a nice, clean, safe tourist-friendly place, nice to visit but didn't make for compelling music.

But sure they aren't industry plants ;)
>>
>>131438868
Who the fuck did Schneider know in the industry? He had money, he was a music nut, he had a bunch of high school friends that made music together so he started his own record label so they could distribute music. He literally started from the bottom and their decades-long fight to any public awareness by definition was not part of any industry. Just because it's your first day on the internet and they're established now doesn't mean it happened overnight.
An industry plant is when an established company artificially boosts a musician (usually a nepo baby but not always) with money through marketing, paid for demand, and established production while presenting them as indie/home grown/sporadic "discovered talent".
>>
>>131438956
Schneider is the industry, how the fuck do you not count someone with a recording label and access to studios/being able to pay for their recordings as not being part of the music industry?

Carly Simon [Elektra, 1971]
Since affluence is an American condition, I suppose it makes sense not only for the privileged to inflict their sensibilities on us, but for many of us to dig it. Too bad, though. It's OK for "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" to voice a cliché, but not with that calculated preciosity and false air of discovery. If Carly's college friends are already old enough to have alienated their children, her self-discovery program is a little postmature anyway. C−

>>131439092
People think plant = has rich parents. Having rich parents helps (and Eilish wasn't poor by any means) but all it takes is some marketers and and record jews to decides X or Y is who's getting pushed because they seem them as marketable. Rodrigo has rich parents (not mega-wealthy but millionaire therapist dad in a reasonably well off area of California) who pushed her into show business from the time she could walk. I would bet that her dad had some clients either in the business or who knew people who were. Once she's in, execs see her as someone who can be fit into whatever mold they want to cast her in for maximum marketability: ethnically ambiguous to appeal to large swaths of people, pretty enough to be marketable but not so much that she seems intimidating.

So they hit on the idea of marketing her as the "girl next door indie kid" like a prettier Lorde except by giving her the best songwriters and producers they can find so she doesn't end up a one hit wonder like Lorde. She didn't need to be the child of industry execs to get to where she was, she just had parents who were pushing her to be in entertainment and by the time she was in middle school it was decided that she would be groomed to be a big star.
>>
>>131439130
You're basically not getting anywhere in the industry anymore without being able to afford production equipment and marketers. It's the same everywhere. Athletics used to be a way for poor kids to get out of poverty, now you have to be able to dedicate all your times to travel teams and the best equipment which means the poor kids can't afford it, only the upper-middle class and wealthy ones. Everything is becoming a rich person's game.

Anon, I don’t think they needed money for Discord. What, Nitro subscriptions? Most homes didn’t even have a desktop computer in them when the band formed, let alone the high speed internet needed for something like Dischord.

They played shows at school gymnasiums for free and worked at sandwich shops and shit, their money came from album sales, albums they pressed themselves in the Dischord house.

I have to wonder just who Steve Lawrence had incriminating photos of because how could he possibly have lasted as long as he did?

I feel like the term trust fund baby is too broad. Having a literal billionaire dad and having parents that were doctors or something are not remotely the same thing. The latter means you grew up comfortable, the former means you have infinite money to literally buy success

>ITT: musicians who had dad's who werent unemployed

No you don’t understand on chud incel nu-/mu/ if you weren’t raised by rats in a sewer and got your start recording yourself shitting your pants then you’re an industry plant and a nepo baby.

like anon said, the old guard of country music grew up dirt shit poor. Johnny Cash picked cotton when he was a kid. i'd bet $10 that that "Choosin' Texas" bitch is the niece of a Nashville music executive.

Yeah she’s definitely the daughter of a US senator, I’m from Alabama and her hometown is incredibly affluent and opulent it’s disgusting honestly. “Choosin Texas”? More like “Choosin BBC” lol

A reporter for a newspaper, even a major paper, is an entirely normal relatively modest paying job.

And it should not be surprising people smart enough to be reporters for major papers have children who are smart enough to be professional musicians. This is entirely normal and expected.

>Lynn was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, the oldest daughter and second child of Clara Marie "Clary" (née Ramey; May 5, 1912 – November 24, 1981) and Melvin Theodore "Ted" Webb (June 6, 1906 – February 22, 1959). Ted was a coal miner and subsistence farmer. Lynn had one older sibling, Melvin "Junior" Webb (1929–1993), and six younger siblings: Herman Webb (1934–2018), Willie "Jay" Lee Webb (February 12, 1937 – July 31, 1996), Donald Ray Webb (1941–2017), Peggy Sue Wright (née Webb; born March 25, 1943), Betty Ruth Hopkins (née Webb; born 1946), and Crystal Gayle (born Brenda Gail Webb; January 9, 1951). The family claims Cherokee heritage on Lynn's mother's side, but they have not been officially recognized by the tribe. Lynn was named after the film star Loretta Young.

>Loretta's father, Ted, died at age 52 from a stroke four years after relocating with her mother and younger siblings to Wabash, Indiana. He had also been battling black lung disease at the time of his death.

That's the real shit.

as he tried explaining above, that degree of poverty doesn't really exist anymore (no, growing up in a trailer park still isn't anything like poor in this sense)

Julian is a generational talent though, rich or not. Him writing all the music on the first two albums at the age of 21 or whatever is crazy.

Mac Demarco is a freemason
