was New York City indie rock in the early 2000s really that important/impactful?
>>
strokes were the rock band of the 2000s

theyll cope. theyll seethe. theyll rage at the truth
>>
imagine being a music critic and you get to hang out with kurt cobain, then he dies and grunge dies, and it gets replaced with butt rock and post grunge and nu metal. You really want to hang out with fred durst?

The strokes didnt re invent the wheel but they made rock cool again.

the bland-ass soundtrack to Giuliani's safe, clean, bring-the-whole-family New York. sure, you wouldn't go on a family vacation to the city in 77, but it did make for more compelling music.

Zoomers are nostalgia fgging over it because of the 20 year cycle
>>
>>131445381
it was the last major rock movement out of new york before it got too expensive for musicians to live in new york.
It was the last time rock music was cool.

>the 20 year cycle
You mean, things that were popular ~20 years prior to the current year are usually hip among younger people? If so, that makes sense.

am i supposed to think hanging out with Kirk Cobrain was remotely better or more enticing than hanging out with Fred Dirst?

No. Critics shilled the fuck out of them but their cultural importance was nothing compared to emo and scene music. Also early 2010s indie was more important than any of that stuff
>>
>>131445343
My is a hellhole now, why does the music suck ass?
>>
>>131445381
Zoomers are so parasitic I swear, they already sucked the 90s dry. Now they're coming for the 00s. God I hate them. >>131446160

What city has the potential to have a good music scene that isn't just trust fund babies these days? Is there even one?
>>
>>131450530
>>131439252
i have some bad news for you, trust fund babbies are older than you think
>>
>>131450530
Probably Chicago, but every-time a musician from there gets any motion they move to NYC. Best 2010s example is Angel Olsen.
>>
>>131450530
Austin used to be good but it's turning to shit just like NYC. It seems like anytime a place gets traction it starts pricing out average people. Economic conditions are such that the only people who can even afford to take the risk of making art full-time for a living are the ones that have rich daddies that can pay for it. 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck
