Metal is actually good and extreme metal would be the only genre that can save pop music from its doldrums because extreme metal is the only form of music that has never been mainstreamed. >>131463851hip hop needs a hard core section. where the music is human made at the very least. where authenticity in its creation is a precedent. id like it to be like hard core in the sense that its a subgenre or subculture with its own rules customs and standards that exists outside of the mainstream. like how theres different forms of rock and roll. where you can't use ai. the beats and rhymes/lyrics gotta come from you. or whoever the artist is. if youre a rapper you don't have to make the beat and if you're a producer you don't have to rap sing or do the lyrics. but its gotta come from real people. I'm trying to think about people being themselves before they felt the need to get high or do drugs to enjoy themselves more. where beefs are settled with boxing gloves. and men and women remember how to be good to each other. because its no secret that people are clearly being influenced by the music and cell phones/social media have destroyed relationships. where the actual art and music is the emphasis and fundamental to the actual culture. with actual rules and a code and everything. its strange to think most people would think its weird to be around each other not high and with people playing music they actually made and even enjoying it. but thats what hardcore literally is.

while rap is a good genre the more mainstream end of it has become extremely bland and passe rather than evolving since it's settled far too much on keeping a constant, repetitive delivery rather than finding more interesting approaches to rhythm and delivery. This will eventually lead to a situation like the fixation on the traditions of 'classic' rock killing it in the mainstream despite the genre thriving just outside of it; which I'm looking forward to since actually innovative rap is awesomehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDhiOCBedCY

a band doesn't need to constantly innovate. if they can keep churning out similar sounding good music, that's perfectly fine.
there's no such thing as good or bad music, not in any absolute sense. people cling to such ideas in part because that's what those before them and those around them believe, but also because of a certain conceit: it feels good to like the "right" kind of music. but these criteria are arbitrary. there are a few who affirm such categories, and say their taste in fact doesn't fit the bill. these people are of a more humble sort, but still misguided.

The usebase of this site is completely full of shit. Two of my favorite bands, Lush and M83, have ZERO bolded albums. Not one!I'm lucky I found Lush through /mu/ and M83 from the radio (and then their deep cuts from /mu/)RYM should not be anyone's only place to get music recs, they are pretentious but also entry level posers at the same time, with the top 100 being dominated by rap and Radiohead.
>>131484079I've said this before but seeing the likes of Laibach and Swans get put down for 'sounding fascist' or something like that makes it impossible to take RYM ratings seriously.
>>131484079>>131484438Correct. RYM is fine as a catalog site, and I like predicting what they'll give for a collective rating (95% of the time I'll get within .2 rating of anything that's not obscure), but they are majorly biased like any other societal group with inherent dispositions. My hot take is rock music is in pretty good shape in 2026. Yes the innovation is not there but performance and musicianship combines to make the live experience still worth it.

>People who strongly dislike electronic music (not the calvin harris type, more the Jeff Mills type) do so because of lack of imagination and creativity>The Pop industry nowadays is carried on the shoulders of gooners (male homos included here) and brainless stans. Anyone really interested in music and not the personalities is exploring other genres>The most innovative music, especially electronic, is coming from LATAM and Africa>Being mentally ill gives you an upper hand in arts, thats why many trannies are great musicians>>131462302I cant even begin to imagine how any extreme metal genre can be mixed with any pop of any era. Plus, as an extreme metal fan, do you really wanna see your spaces get infested with normies whose most "extreme artist" was XXXTentacion or Ghostemane?
>>131488612>People who strongly dislike electronic music (not the calvin harris type, more the Jeff Mills type) do so because of lack of imagination and creativitywhat makes you think so? why do you think creativity facilitates emotional resonance? to qualify, if you were to have mentioned rock or hip-hop, say, as opposed to electronic, I would still have the same questions; I'm interested in the general underlying philosophy. and I ask because I think there is *something* to the idea that more creative types are more inclined to certain types of music - and music in general - but that can only get you so far. extremely creative people can love music but like very different kinds of music. and sure, there are tendencies in terms of broader personality features, one's childhood and adolescence, etc., but I don't think any of that necessitates liking this or that genre. and you can even have two people who are very much into electronic, say, and have the same favorite artist, but there still be some degree of difference in the particular songs and works of theirs they like. so I think creativity certainly aids in one enjoying the contemplation of ideas, but I don't think that's the same thing as having an immediate positive emotional response prior to contemplating the rhythm, chord changes, etc.
>>131488612Calvin Harris is shit, but Jeff Mills' only good song is The Bells; I think he excels better at DJing than beatmaking.
>>131487497Early 90s metal like you posted was just made and the market for it happened to be 16 year olds.Nu-metal was manufactured by marketingfags to appeal to 12 year olds.

>>131461195Early King Crimson was the best period. Lizard is the greatest prog record ever. Red and Larks are overrated.Early Floyd was the best period. Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother are their peak.RHCP is a good band.Blondie is fucking terrible.
The 90s had a lot of noticeable music and cultural rot setting in.
Parallel Lines [Chrysalis, 1978]As unlikely as it seemed three years ago, they've actually achieved their synthesis of the Dixie Cups and the Electric Prunes--their third is as close to God as pop-rock albums ever get, or got. Closer, actually--even on side two every song generates its own unique, scintillating glitz. What seems at first like a big bright box of hard candy turns out to have guts, feeling, a chewy center, and Deborah Harry's vocal gloss reveals nooks of compassion and sheer physical give that makes the protagonists of these too-too modern fragments seem as tragic (or untragic) as those of any other epoch. Plus the band really New Yawks it up--try the chorus of "Just Go Away." A
>>131488673I think creativity is linked to open mindness and I guess I wanted to refer to "emotional resonance" as you put it. I believe electronic music is mostly about the ambiance and how it makes you feel. And putting those feelings into concepts is how you realize your enjoyment. So, in the end, people who lack the creativity to come up with explanations for their feelings will struggle to enjoy it. Obviously being able to conceptualize makes you enjoy a more vast range of music, but most of the time they will have lyrics to aid you. Bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor are less palatable for some cause of this I'd say. That's why I think more complex electronics are more challenging and really show the capability of this skill. But I'd say I agree with your points.>>131491918I used Mills as an example. I could say Autechre, Shoppongle, Eternal Basement... I still think he has some bangers man. The album where The Bells is, is great. I do prefer others. Check out TØXINE on Bandcamp. And I even enjoy some Calvin Harris, its just easy listening compared to other things. It doesnt reward your engagement with the song unlike others in which you may find a different melody to bang your head to on the 3rd listen.
>>131462302>extreme metal is the only form of music that has never been mainstreamedit was attempted in the mainstream in the 90s and failed. extreme metal is basically financially unviable and the only people who do it are diehards who would never allow pop music fusion. also pop music guys wouldn't want to do it because it would be financial suicide
>>131461195Monophonic music is the purest and superior form of music.
>>131493555>And putting those feelings into concepts is how you realize your enjoyment. So, in the end, people who lack the creativity to come up with explanations for their feelings will struggle to enjoy it.maybe I misunderstand you, and I don't mean to strawman you, so feel free to correct me where you think fit. but I'm not sure I agree. I think there's something to the sense of "putting your finger on it," the Why of your particular taste, but I don't think you need to have even a fragment conception of why you like a given piece in order to enjoy it. I'm not a psychologist, and don't know *exactly* what's going on when we like a given piece, but in the sort of liking or enjoyment I'm talking about it seems pre-rational. you might be able to put it into words after the fact - and, personally, I think that's all post-hoc; I don't think we really understand our music taste at all - but that doesn't cause your base enjoyment, I don't think.
