when someone says better I think of the mechanical capabilities, sounding good isn't playing guitar, thats sound engineer shit.
if you listen through some of craigs licks he's actually doing some things that are a little more advanced than cowboy chords and full step bends

If you wear a tinfoil schizo hat while you're here you'll be safe. That's what I do and I've never contracted it. I made it in the kitchen one afternoon while I was microwaving some hot pockets.
>>
>>131467404
To add to this, the microwaves coming from the hot pockets were telling me to do bad things and when I put the tinfoil hat on they stopped. That's how I know it works.

A different one each day. Rotate through with a full day on each one.
>>
currently i rotate guitars once a year, every 6 months at most. of course i have my favorites but i feel a need to play everything. my semi hollow is probably my least favorite. i forgot if the bridge is funny and not pinned down besides tension or something but i remember kinda disliking that. also it feels odd. i never liked set neck guitars. having a bolt on just feels right. but it was a gift and i refuse not to use it. its a ibanez, came broken from the factory with shitty wiring and i somehow managed to get it in working condition despite not really knowing what i was doing at the time.
semi hollow body guitars are kinda fun for big chord stuff I guess
>>
>>131467491
None of the gear or playing posts in this general are interesting. Google search AI summaries are less boring.

Of course most of the thread is going to be off-topic shitposts when there's not anything else worth reading.

This works out well because Paul doesn't want blacks playing his guitars, it cheapens his brand. He even cringes when they pick up a student edition. He knows crime stats though and realizes some of these will inevitably end up in black hands as they sprint out the exit of guitar center. Nothing he can do about thar.

I'm about at the same place you are. Honestly, learn some basic scales. blues scale, pentatonic, just basic ones. it'll really upgrade your improvisation ability, you won't feel as lost trying to find notes that sound good together. this is wrong, my evidence is the quality of vocas on /gg/. there is no point in learning more if you can’t use what you already know. start with one scale and make something good with only two notes. only when you feel like you are fluent in those two notes and need more to say add another note. do this until you have the entire scale. then start over with 2 notes in 2 octaves

My home studio is 20x15 feet. They sound splendid. Even in an apartment at lower volumes they will sound superior to a 1 and 2x12, let alone two entry level bookshelves.

your air conditioner isn’t getting your basement below 65%. unless you installed that unit yourself it’s going to be slightly oversized and isn’t going to run long enough to do that. given you’re too poor to even finish your basement I can guaranteed you have air leaks in the house in multiple locations

Bullshit. I've tried this. A 2x12 is all low end at that volume, a 4x12 is worse. They are balanced for stage volumes.
>Just turn the EQ knobs!
I thought it was all about the 4x12s being better by default? If that were true why do you need to fix it with EQ?
None of these problems exist with an amp that actually makes sense for an apartment. A full stack looks out of place in an apartment because it is out of place.
>>
>>131471597
>looks out of place in an apartment

4x12's push more air and sound bigger. really is simple as.
>>
amp needs to be tuned to the guitar and the amp an speakers need to be tuned to the room. running an amp below 7 will never produce good tone. it’s just simple physics

A reactive load is only needed if your amp is SO loud that the master volume doesn't get it low enough. It doesn't do jack shit to the problem you're replying to - there's nothing that can attenuate your speaker cones besides a smaller cab with fewer cones.
>>
>>131472277
cabs are probably the cheapest part of a rig and 4x12 are dead cheap because there are so many secondhand after they realized they are too big
>>
>>131472519
>cabs are probably the cheapest part of a rig

play acoustic
>>
>>131472485
You obviously don’t know what the fuck you are talking about, or never had the opportunity to play a tube amp on full blast… Either way, let me explain something real simple to you: tube amps sound their best when the power amp kicks into overdrive. There’s no fuckin’ way in hell you’ll achieve this with a master volume, not even with a post phase inverter one. That’s why a reactive load does the job.
>>
>>131472624
hes probably the same anon who only plays DI through his shitbox tiny monitors. hes a lost cause anon dont bother trying to explain.
>>
>>131472624
EE here, it's actually the preamp stages that add distortion when you turn the master volume up. Power amp distortion sounds horrendous because there's nothing to filter the shrill higher order harmonics.
>>
Guys guys I've made something that isn't terrible!!

Ever heard of a cab’s frequency response and how the speakers attenuate everything over 5 KHz, Mr big shot electrical engineer? Ever seen an impedance curve of a 4x12 and how it goes exponentially up after the resonant frequency bump? Just shut the fuck up, before you embarrass yourself even more.
>>
>>131472755
Test it for yourself. Record a DI signal, boost it with a non-distorting amplifier and run it into your FX loop return with the return level all the way up. You won't like the results.
>>
>>131472755
Oh, and since I now bothered to open your image: You're looking at less than 10 dB attenuation between around 600 Hz (that's roughly the "d" note at the 10th fret of your high e string) and its 10th harmonic at 6 kHz.
>>
>>131472813
You obviously didn’t get what I tried to convey. Guitar speakers are filters. They filter out all shrill (high) frequencies and even / odd order harmonics generated by distortion. Run your amp DI signal without an IR… It will sound like ass, even with preamp distortion only.

https://voca.ro/1ejKroJV2SYj
>>
>>131472624
the point was, this isn't relevant. whether or not your power tubes are saturated makes no difference to the cab. a giant cab receiving a tiny signal, attenuated or naturally tiny, is going to sound bad. why put nitrous in the tank when you have to keep your speed below the limit
>>
>>131472907
Yes. My point is that all of the filtering that's happening in the various preamp stages before you get to the power stage is also an important part of a guitar's sound, and pretty much any amp made in the last 50 years has taken that into account. If preamp distortion was so shit, we'd all be playing single stage amps.

>>
>>131472934
I said nothing negative about preamp distortion. What I said was, leaving power amp distortion out of the picture wouldn’t get you great tone… Overdriven preamp + overdriven power amp is where it’s at.
>>
>>131473009
Imagine if you did this, and then added another non-distorting power amp stage after the last distorting stage so you can get more volume with no changes to your thus far perfect tone
Wild concept, I know

You only forget the complex interplay of the plate load, output transformer and the reactive load (speaker voice coil in a magnetic field). This shit can’t be replicated by a few simple triode stages.

>>
>>131473094
Imagine throwing out a bunch of words you don't understand. None of that is complex. All that happens there is a bit of filtering and maybe, MAYBE a few extra harmonics if you're driving the speaker near the limit of what it can survive over extended periods of time.

It’s not that simple, dumbass. You have speaker dynamics (ever seen a waterfall chart?), not to mention flyback voltage and crossover distortion in push-pull designs. These concepts can’t be modeled easily or simulated 100%. That’s why amp sims will always remain just an approximation to the real thing.

hard to swallow pills, practice doesn't make you a better musician, all practice does is allows you to unleash your creativity if you had none to begin with you're just going to turn into a rote muscle memory repeater.

What’s a good set of tuners and nut to get for my Fender starcaster? It’s a cheap Strat I got back in the 2000’s for Christmas one year that I want to set up to be a good player.
I figure with a good set of tuners, a good nut, and some mean ceramics I could have a bad little guitar. Idk I want to stick with single coils, but I want to simultaneously go for a post grunge/new mentalish sound. I’m not sure that’ll happen with singles, but idk how else to describe what I like to play/listen to. Current tuning is drop C if that helps.
