>>131495253Asus ROG Kithara (because it's actually a Hifiman headphone with Asus branding) into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd gen). I don't use the mic attachment, the Focusrite powers a different one. My first planar... pretty nice. They stay detailed at lower volumes and made my Beyerdynamics and Sennheisers sound really strange after putting them back on... mid-forward in a muddy way. Could also have to do with earcup positioning - Sennheiser's design works alright, but Beyerdynamic's earcups being a round circle make no sense for consistent fitting. Shame they are so comfortable otherwise.I usually opt for CD rips on slsk, Bandcamp flacs, or YouTube Music if I'm casually listening elsewhere. my quest for fidelity got so bad that i got into field recording live shows and finding out where that topped out (hint: it's putting DPA omnis in a hat into a field recorder with enough plug-in power and autistically glaring at the kick drum in the front row to maintain accurate soundstage/imaging), with or without bothering the audio engineer for a board patch. Sometimes I prefer the live performances to the studio albums because it's less processing done to the sound, and because of the suffering needed to extract and matrix these live shows.Anyways, I have tinnitus. Not worth going past planars for me.

The cost of turntable + preamp + receiver + speaker/headphone + upkeep costs, plus the physical act of getting up from listening position to hear "Side C as it was intended!" is just too cost-ineffective and antiquated for the potential return you get, versus a bit-perfect copy of a song that is reproduced identically every time it is queued to play. Sure, get a boxset or a fold-out sleeve if it contains beautiful artwork or backstory on how an album you love was created, but claiming such an annoying playback method is done for the sake of fidelity is to cope with the money it took to set it all up, while blocking out the obvious reproduction errors (crackle, random dust particle). It's just too fragile for too little return, and it's never the same after its first playthrough.

Yamaha HS8 at home and JBL Boombox 4 on the bus and train. I don't know how niggas expect to mix bass on the HS8s when you can barely hear the bass.
