I have come to the conclusion that the best song Brian Wilson ever wrote and produced was Funky Pretty. It has all the hallmarks of a great Beach Boys song, from Brians stellar writing and unique production to featuring the groups vocal harmony and a memorable chorus at the end.

1. God Only Knows
2. I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times
3. Wouldn’t It Be Nice

God Only Knows never quite did it for me for some reason. A lot of people consider it one of the greatest pop songs of all time, I think it's okay it just never clicked

it's one of the best songs from holland, one of the few tracks where the sound of the album and the band really come together. i like the quirky synths and brian's deteriorating falsetto, it's pretty underrated. but i'm not sure if it's better than anything from his mid 60s period

That’s fair but for me God Only Knows is one of those songs that’s so-clearly fantastic that it’s impossible for me to comprehend a differing opinion

Agreed. Jan and deans surf city is number 2. California girls number 3 maybe.

To me it's Honkin Down the Gosh Darn Highway, much thanks to Jardine's swagger

it has strong production effects that seem to be subliminal for most normies or some people don't even respond to them. the songwriting by itself without taking the production trickery into consideration seems overrated, at best it would suit the style of its time for people who listen to the beatles etc, but to me it doesn't seem top tier by modern standards.
