you should focus on uncluttering the mix first before fretting over the limiting.
ironically that will make it way easier to make it louder.

The opportunity for actually useful AI composition tools was squandered by one-button-song bullshit and it makes me sad.

The perfect use of AI for me would be describing the kind of synth sound you want, and it makes a preset for you, which you can then use or modify yourself, as needed.

I want AI for voicing. Like give it a melody and chord changes, and specify how you want it led. Close, drop 2, drop 4, 4 voice florid counterpoint, etc. I know how to do it but it’s time consuming

put on your critical thinking cap and circle back around to why the first answer wasn’t helpful.
now apply that logic to why the second answer isn’t going to help and why consequent questions are just going to be a time sink.

it’s apparent that further conversation will just confirm that you’re a lost cause (and if not then you’re just extremely slow and stupid) so i’m going to respond anymore.

>put on your critical thinking cap and circle back around to why the first answer wasn’t helpful.
its not helpful because thats how i would start off with a bus compressor anyway without ai assistance or a snakeoil salesman on youtube. i would simply dial it in based on the song itself.

why do major key signatures sound better for sad/melancholy songs a lot of the time
>>
>>131504813
You gotta be happy first before becoming sad
>>
>>131504813
interestingly people under 35 dont associate minor scales with sadness like older generations do thanks to things like hiphop predominantly using minor scales
regardless, simplified statements like "minor = sad, major = happy" are dumb and any astute composer can get different feelings out of any scale

major is brighter, minor is darker. The idea that minor is "sad" is kind of stupid, actually, it's sort of like saying a color is sad. That kind of cultural relationship might exist (e.g. blue) but it isn't really how we experience looking at an image. Similarly, a key represents a kind of color for a song (bright or dark) and the emotion it produces is something derived from that.

If you want a song to be sad, a good bet is to use a major key and find a way to get the b6 in there, falling to 5. There's a musical sense of longing produced when a "wrong" note appears and then falls to the right one. Classic example is the IV - iv - I and the III7 - I. This is also the magic trick behind the "augmented 6th" chords.
>>
>>131503720
Have you considered just learning how a compressor works and what the knobs on it do, and then like, using your ears to guide you about where those knobs should be set?
>>
>>131505958
It's really jarring (not bad, just unexpected) to hear the melody repeat itself up a 4th and then drop back, like you're doing the classic Doom-blues riff and then just completely not do the last 4 bars in the V IV I. We got 3/4ths of the way through E1M1 on a flute and then decided to do something different at the last minute.
>>
>>131505486
actually excellent use of playing off-beat.
>>
>>131505958
poor choice of sounds on the main melody and it's overall a bit too rigid and basic, but that little flourish over the final section sounds amazing, love the panning on it.

>>
>>131507821
Give me a free lesson of music theory, anon, spoon feedme please
>>
>>131507997
NTA (and he’s being a smartass) but here’s ultra simplified music theory (well, functional harmony, but this is what most people mean, not rhythm theory)
A key is a collection of 7 notes repeated up and down the octave. They can be major or minor but these are the same; every major key is also a minor key. The first key you should learn is C (which is also A minor), all the white keys on a keyboard. You can get any other key by sliding that collection of notes up and down; D (also B minor) is the same sequence of steps between notes as C, but starting on a higher note.

If you stack every-other-note patterns 3 at a time in a key, that’s a chord. so C (skip D) E (skip F) G, or D (skip E) F (skip G) A. When you play a chord, it has a relationship with other chords in the key that your ear recognizes.

Your tonic chord (CEG, or ACE for minor) is “home”. Stable. The “center of gravity” everything falls to. Your Dominant chord (GBD) points there. Play that chord, it wants to go to tonic. Your Subdominant chord (DFA or FAC) wants to go to Dominant.

There are about 900,000 extensions of this core logic. Any time you are noodling around and play something that sounds cool, and you go “huh, that doesn’t fit with my tiny little model”, that’s an extension of the logic you don’t know yet. Ask someone or look it up. Now you learned a new technique/relationship to add to your understanding of music theory.

Lol u just can't mix, getting to -3 these days is a sad joke. He will teach you like the standard knowledge. Then analogue princess will teach you how to manipulate clippers and modern limiting styles and shit. Then baphometrix will step by step take you through a complex process that will teach you an incredible amount about mixing and some very advanced concepts and techniques. Ahee has some excellent tricks for loudness as well that are really easy and free to implement.

lmao anons are quick to defend plugin emulations. it's the same principle. huge numbers of amateur guitarists and weekend warrior producers fully embrace literal AI slop plugins like NAM and acustica audio plugins because in their opinion "no one can tell the difference" so in their mind that justifies using plugins over hardware. even with hardware clones there is an issue of authenticity although from legal standpoint the patent protection is much more limited than copyright, usually the original hardware is the most desirable and people only resort to using clones for cost reasons, the same reason as why illegal software piracy is justified. there have already been very popular uses of text-to-speech and non-AI vocal synthesizers. you can easily imagine ethical uses of AI such as replicating your own voice or the voices of consenting artists. you could easily imagine AI vocal tools that are merely in the same category as autotune and such.
