Tell me, /wpop/. Who's your main woman? Whose music do you like that also find attractive? Are there women whose music you like but don't find attractive and vice versa? And who are those you neither like musically nor do you find attractive?

My main /wpop/ woman: Maggie Rogers

/wpop/ women whose music I like that I find attractive: Rose McDowall / Strawberry Switchblade, Caroline Polachek, Clairo, Tove Lo, Carly Rae Jepsen*, Debbie Harry, Kate Bush, Kylie Minogue, Olivia Rodrigo, Hayley Williams, Phoebe Bridgers

/wpop/ women whose music I like but don't find attractive: Slayyyter, Siouxsie Sioux, Halsey, Grace Jones

/wpop/ women whose music I'm indifferent to but find attractive: Lana Del Rey, Hannah Diamond

/wpop/ stars whose music I wanted to like but couldn't that I don't find attractive: Florence Welch. This one hurts because the woman is immensely talented and can sing, but her music just doesn't connect with me at all.

/wpop/ women whose music I don't like but find attractive: Christina Aguilera (prime era), Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, Madison Beer, Tate McRae, Zara Larsson, Addison Rae, Ashnikko, Avril Lavigne, Shakira, Rebecca Black, Lady Gaga

/wpop/ women whose music I neither like nor find attractive: Lorde, Grimes, Bebe Rexha, Ava Max, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, Björk, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Anitta, Charli XCX, Six Sex

that's a fair point but it wasn't for us to decide. the shooter felt differently and we have to respect that and his wishes. freedom of guns and freedom to shoot whoever you want and all that good stuff. don't like it, vote for gun control. till then don't complain about who gets shot because obviously you don't really care.
>>
>>131507982
It is, now kill yourself
>>
>>131508075
>till then don't complain about who gets shot because obviously you don't really care.
that's a false dichotomy. genuine care is about sentiment, not prescriptions. two people can, say, earnestly want to help an individual but come to two different conclusions about how to achieve that.
>freedom of guns and freedom to shoot whoever you want and all that good stuff.
that's a strawman. believing in "freedom of guns" is a platitude, like many political ideas. people mean somewhat varied and particular things when they use them. just as being "pro-choice" doesn't mean you have to be for the abolition of age of consent laws because, "Well, it should be people's choice. It's in the name!" you can disagree with the ideas, but at least describe them accurately.
>>

so is he innocent or not? do you not care about innocent victims? if he is innocent, and you don't care, why should we care about any innocent victim? if he's not, then what makes someone an innocent victim of gun violence?
but to answer your question, yes, I would like there to be no innocent gun deaths. what makes him "special" is the sheer contrast between how lukewarm is ideas were and the glee and/or indifference with which people described his death. it shows just how many people on the left are willing to disregard or cheer for the death of someone with milquetoast ideas. these people are your coworkers, care providers, etc.

that's a famous quote of his, but it's often mischaracterized. it also eludes people that they already believe the same principles about most things. he was answering a question about lesser evils. not that in some absolute sense gun deaths are good. but that it's very unrealistic to eliminate guns but absolutely get rid of innocent gun deaths. it's just that the alternative is worse. you can disagree with that if you like, but that's the idea, not how it's often caricatured.
most people, for instance, aren't for car deaths in some absolute sense, but implicitly we believe that it's a lesser evil to allow that possibility while still having cars, giving people the freedom to drive. the idea that you're gonna get rid of them completely while allowing them to be driven is naive.
>Not him but you won't accept any response, it'll be deflecting and "oh he didnt say that"
maybe, maybe not. I'm not claiming to be morally perfect, but I wasn't an avid viewer of Charlie's when he was alive and am happy to say if there's something he said which contradicts what I believe or if there's some incoherency in his own beliefs. but thus far no one has provided anything.

I didn't say otherwise. you're implying that my analogy is disanalogous, but that depends on the particular comparison I was making. this is the comparison:
with cars
>car deaths are not favorable per se
>it is unlikely to wholly eliminate car deaths without getting rid of cars completely
>it is better to have cars than to not have them
>allow for the potential of car deaths while still having cars
with guns
>gun deaths are not favorable per se
>it is unlikely to wholly eliminate gun deaths without getting rid of guns completely
>it is better to have guns than to not have them
>allow for the potential of gun deaths while still having guns

It is disanalogous. Car deaths and gun deaths don't exist in a vacuum. Most car deaths are accidents. Unless you have the data to prove otherwise, I don't believe there's an epidemic of road rage drivers going around and intentionally running over people or crashing onto others.

I can concede that, but that wasn't part of my comparison. this happens a lot, where you compare two things in a specific way or a specific set of ways, and someone says, "Yeah but they're different." two things can be mostly different, but if they're the same in one way, and your comparison of them is regarding that similarity, then your comparison is fine. I already laid out the specific comparison I was making, and you keep going to things I wasn't talking about.

I agree two things don't need to be identical in every way for a comparison to hold but the reason the accident factor matters to your specific comparison is that the "lesser evil" logic depends entirely on the nature of the risk being accepted. With cars the trade-off is accepting unintentional risk as a byproduct of utility, where harm is mitigated through regulation, infrastructure, and safety design. With guns, a substantial portion of the risk is intentional harm where the tool is functioning exactly as intended.
We evaluate whether a risk is "worth it" differently when dealing with collateral accidents versus deliberate harm. The calculation of what constitutes an acceptable "lesser evil" for cars doesn't map onto guns.
>>
Pepe the frog
>>
>>131508727
respectfully this is missing the point. you are right in the sense that the circumstances around car deaths and gun deaths can, perhaps should, and normally do matter when people are justifying their lesser evil argument, but the validity or soundness of the lesser evil argument is different from the validity or soundness of the comparison between the underlying rationale for it being a lesser evil to allow the purchasing of guns or cars.
my comparison doesn't necessitate either lesser evil argument being coherent, it depends on whether the rationales are equivalent in the way I say they are - and they are.

No anon, not really. You're separating the structure of the logic from the content of the logic, but an analogy requires both to be valid. If we reduce any trade-off to "accepting risk X is worth benefit Y" then every trade-off shares the exact same rationale structurally. But an analogy only works if the relationship between X and Y in the first case actually mirrors the relationship between X and Y in the second. In the case of cars, the risk is accidents traded for the benefit of daily civil utility. In the case of guns, the risk is intentional lethal force traded for individual defense/rights. Because the underlying relationship between the risk and the benefit is completely different in kind, saying "the rationales are equivalent" reduces the argument to a surface level semantic template instead of a functional analogy.

But you know all this, don't you?

>but an analogy requires both to be valid
no it doesn't. if one person says we should do x because not doing so is dangerous, and another says we should do y because not doing so is dangerous, and I say, "They both think that what they advocate for is good/preferable because not doing so would be dangerous," it doesn't matter the particulars of their belief or its truth value in order for my comparison to be right, because I'm not comparing the further particulars or the truth value, and could readily agree there are differences at that level.
>Because the underlying relationship between the risk and the benefit is completely different in kind, saying "the rationales are equivalent" reduces the argument to a surface level semantic template instead of a functional analogy.
I'm not saying "the rationales are equivalent" in an unqualified way, and I'm not saying the risk-benefit analysis is fully comparable, but there is a risk-benefit analysis which results in the conclusion. I made specific comparisons. please, point out whether any of these comparisons are false:
>1. most people do not believe car deaths per se are good; most gun advocates do not think gun deaths per se are good
is any of that wrong?
>2. most people believe that it is very unlikely that we can reduce the number of car deaths per year without also wholly getting rid of cars; gun advocates believe that it is very unlikely that we can reduce the number of gun deaths per year without also wholly getting rid of guns
true or false for either case?
>3. most people believe that it is better to have cars than to not have them; gun advocates believe it is better to have guns than to not have them
either of those wrong?
>4. most people conclude, implicitly or explicitly, that we should allow for the potential of car deaths but still have cars; gun advocates conclude, implicitly or explicitly, that we should allow for the potential of gun deaths but still have guns.
both of those are true, right?

All you did was shift the goalposts from making a functional analogy to constructing a descriptive parallel. Yeah none of your 4 individual statements are false as isolated descriptions of what those two groups believe but listing four true descriptions of two different beliefs does not mean the comparison between them is logically sound or instructive.
I can state that lightbulbs emit light using electricity and nuclear reactors emit thermal energy using fission, both statements are true. But if I try to use lightbulbs to explain or justify nuclear energy policy, the comparison fails because the operational mechanics and risk profiles aren't remotely equivalent (I'm pro-nuclear btw).
You are isolating the psychological sequence of how gun advocates reason and showing it looks like how drivers reason. But showing that two groups use the same 4-step thought pattern doesn't mean the trade-off being made in point 4 is equally valid or comparable in both cases.
Yes, gun advocates believe those four things about guns, and drivers believe those four things about cars. But pointing out that two groups share a mindset isn't an argument that their trade-off logic holds equal weight, it just proves that both groups use trade-off logic. If all you're saying is "gun advocates use a lesser-evil framework that resembles the car framework" then sure, that's historically true as a descriptive fact. But if you're using that to imply the car trade-off validates or justifies the gun trade-off, the analogy breaks down the moment you look at what is actually being traded.

>But if you're using that to imply the car trade-off validates or justifies the gun trade-off, the analogy breaks down the moment you look at what is actually being traded.
perhaps this is my fault, as I think I could generally be more clear in discussions, but this seems to be a key point of misunderstanding. I never intended to ultimately justify either rationale. the purpose of the comparison was to show that 1. the quote contains a lesser evil argument, and 2. people believe in such arguments in some form or other, so you can't coherently dismiss it on the grounds of being a lesser evil argument.
you could make a coherent argument for why you disagree with the gun lesser evil argument in it's particular form, but that would be different from doing so based on its general form. obviously it would be absurd to say, "Well you affirm a pragmatic argument here, therefore you have to affirm them in all cases." I was clearing up the meaning of the quote, not justifying it.
>>
>>131509279
it was also to point out that people who affirm a lesser evil argument with cars aren't inherently in favor of car deaths. similarly, affirming a lesser evil argument with guns doesn't mean you are in favor of gun deaths. people use the quote as if the case, but that's disingenuous or ignorant.
