You now remember when Memphis Rap was the newest flavour all the hipster boys were into (approved by p4k even) and every other suburban ''rapper'' was doing the Juicy J flow. Whatever happened there?

It was just the new wave of people finding out about it and appreciating the style. It eventually turned into drift phonk and people stopped doing the 2010s flavor of it

A trend started to bubble up, got a little traction for a but then died out. Happens all the time, they don't always go mainstream. Now do you actually want to discuss this topic in earnest OP or did you start this just to make another screeching about rap thread?

Memphis rap is far from irrelevant. Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink just dropped a Memphis influenced track. Key Glock remains as popular as ever. A$AP Rocky also carried the Memphis sound on his latest album. Drake's Iceman has several tracks with Memphis rap instrumentals. Even Kanye's retarded ass did a Memphis style track on Bully.

Whether people like it or not, memphis rap still lives on through phonk. It just mutated into a new, uglier and duller form, after dudes like fat nick and pouya already hacked off its limbs.

Yeah I agree, while it's not at the forefront as trap is, you'll see stuff it influences all over the place if you look closely. Million Dollar Baby was a huge pop hit and that was a Memphis beat. At peak trap saturation, the Memphis scene didn't have nearly as much saturation. That being said, outside of phonk-based sounds, you won't have a pure Memphis beat either in the mainstream outside of a few cases
