Some parallels are drawn from their vocal timbre but aside from that, I don't think so. But he sings as well as any guitarist can hope for and shreds beyond any vocalist could ever hope for.

imo comparing him to Cornell beyond the obvious similarities in their vocal styles sells Richie short in terms of his versatility as a musician. I'm not saying Chris Cornell wasn't a great singer or that Soundgarden and Audioslave didn't make good music, it's just that just about anything Richie ever did is ~100 musically more impressive and accomplished than anything Chris ever did.
