honestly i stopped listening to metal a bit later in life, at the age of 16like most, i thought i was being cool and badass by listening to it but later you grow up and realize it sucks ass and you were simply an insecure kid wanting to show off dangerness that you never had in the first placethank God i grew out of that phase tho, it would have been a huge shame if i was a disgusting metalhead in my adulthood, i look down on those troglodytes like the rest of civilized society

I stopped around 14 when I started really getting interested in girls; spent my entire teenage years and early 20s constantly self improving, going to the gym, getting sophisticated tastes but it still didn't get me laid. So I ended up getting back into metal, all the extreme stuff, and even real repellent shit like power metal.
I tried really hard to like metal but it's something I really only appreciate from a distance. I got raised primarily on rock growing up so when my friends started showing me indie rock/post-rock like Deerhunter, Slint and Swans and the Idiot by Iggy Pop when I was 14 my taste changed pretty drastically, it just clicked in a way metal never did. So around 16-17, the worst thing about that was I never got into emo until way later.

I stopped at around 15-16, and recently got back into it in my early 30s. I'm actually enjoying it more than I did when I was a teenager, when I was afraid that I would accidentally listen to something satanic and thus would stick with power metal. Turns out black metal is amazing and I'd been missing out.
