Probably the best, most concise sonic depiction of the entire American Primitive movement. But that one is almost more like... being on your death bed. It evokes an extremely nostalgic feeling for something almost alien to me but I suppose it makes me feel like when I was as a child on a misty day in a grassy wooded park, sorta alone but blissful. At the time it didnt feel like the happiest time in my life I probably barely appreciated it and now all I want is to feel that way again, partly why im always looking for a rainy semi rural place to live.

In general I could never figure out to play his songs by ear I need tabs which is tragic considering how big a fan I am. I dream of learning primitivism beyond a few covers but I find it really hard to do anything original even when I tune my guitar right and try to mimic the bass technique like 80% of Fahey songs use. I write a ton of more ordinary music though
>>131531802are you trying to play it exactly like the tab or is it the gist of it youre struggling with? you dont need to do exactly what the tab says, with the songster one the guy who wrote it was just trying to get the midi to sound as close to the recording as possible. its a lot simpler than it looks there, and you dont go to the second fret just before measure 77, you use the 7th fret on the 2nd string instead. the guy just did that to make it sound fuller. the tab for it on his website is much easier on the eyes: https://www.johnfahey.com/TabSpringtime.htmjohn played that song a million different ways, so dont get too caught up on the specifics. you figure those out naturally once you get used to playing the basic premise of it the whole way through. youll learn the embellishments he uses like double stops and rolls just by playing it over and over again

I always picture doing open mics and at this point it'd be me doing a Jeff magnum solo thing but really id love to get good at Fahey style and shove that down some locals throats. I later learned he lived and died in my home state of Oregon where he was this faded legend which makes him even more personal to me
